I can't believe people are calling him injury prone.
A whole man landed on his knee in an awkward position.
His past two injuries are contact injuries, unlucky yes (especially today) but he's not "injury prone".

How would EtH know btw? Specifically that its "very" bad? Don't they always say they have no idea until the tests are done? Or can the Head Doctor initially diagnose how severe an injury is? Obviously not referring to broken collar bones or broken foot, but something pertaining to ligaments and need advanced scanning like in this case.

He is our most important defender. Not just in defence phase. His contribution in build up phase is huge. Nevertheless, i am sorry but feck all that if he can't stay fit. And obviously (so far) he can't. Since he signed he had two major injuries, 2 smaller ones and now this one. So far, in season in a half he managed to play half season for us.
That is not good.

I remember Lucas Leiva played another 5 mins on a torn ACL that ended up keeping him out for a year, and walked off too.
And more famously Martin Palermo, who went on to score. I've torn my ACL twice and whilst it hurt like hell for me, I know a few who has done the same and still walked off. It's highly individual.

Idiotic to keep him on, given his initial reaction, the position of the game & the quality on the bench. Absolutely stupid

78 days out in three seasons at Ajax
182 days so far in United career
He hardly missed a game for the whole of last season until his injury. The 182 days are all one injury so you can't really call him an injury prone player based on a single injury. And 78 days in 3 seasons is really not a lot of time. That's basically two week niggles twice in a season.

I doubt that 2 mins he tried to run it off will have any effect on the injury. Damage if there is any was done either way

He may have tweaked it, if it had been a rupture, he wouldn't have been able to walk off.
I've torn my ACL and I know it hurts.
Initially it does, but after a short while it goes away.

An NFL wide receiver for my team ran straight line sprints with a just torn ACL. Many can walk off with a rupture.

Didn’t Roy Keane play about 20 mins after he did his cruciate?

Clear as day how he makes us a better team but he just can’t seem to stay fit unfortunately. Fingers crossed it’s just a scare.
Some doofus intentionally fell on his knee, then another doofus decided to keep him on even though he was clearly injured.

Also, his last injury was a broken foot that wasn't managed correctly so needed surgery.

It's not like it's an Anthony Martial situation.

Let’s pray it’s not an ACL but whatever he will be out for a minimum of at least a month now.

Such a shame as we look so much more composed at the back with his presence.

We are jinxed there is no doubts about it. Whoever dropped the curse on us is succeeding beyond their own expectations.

That's good news if he's right.

Too long didn't watch: The fella thinks it's more likely an MCL issue than ACL, which would likely range from a couple of weeks out to a couple of months depending on severity. Doesn't completely rule out an ACL issue (which could be something much more long term), but says he'd be surprised.

looking at what exactly?
Apologies, worded it horrifically.
The way the knee bent into valgus (knee going in, while foot going out) - could easily “sprain” the medial collateral ligament - which could be at least 4 weeks out.

Hopefully it was a simple jarring of the knee, but I always wince when I see that sort of unnatural knee bend.

Edit: Just read the most recent posts and now seen Ten Hagg’s comments so it looks like I may be right in terms of what may be injured.

For what it’s worth, I’m a doctor with a sports medicine degree so I thought I’d put my two cents in there.

Was going to post the same video - The doctor here thinks it's most likely an MCL sprain (A grade 1 strain as he puts it) which is 1-3 weeks. Hopefully it is just that because Lisandro is so vital for this team and will play a big part in where we finish by the end of the season. Covered Maguire's side a couple times today as well.

The commentator from my country said the same when you could see that Martinez was waiting to get back on the pitch. The commentator is a former professional footballer himself, and a similar situation cost him his career when he continued to play for a short time.
It was also the inner ligament of the knee, as it appears to be with Martinez.

Unbelievable that ETH and the med.staff would take such a risk.

West Ham have a lot of clumsy players - Soucek, Coufal, Antonio, Ogbonna, Zouma, etc. You're probably not going to get a side as stacked with useless clodhoffing oafs in the eredivisie.

It's a huge loss to us, though. It looked a genuine accident, to be fair, but it's partly because of the physicality of sides like West Ham that those things end up happening.

Very weird to see people saying that.
The only positive (which isn’t a positive) is it’s a new injury and not the re aggravated foot one. That would have been disastrous as would have been the third time in short succession.

He's not injury prone but the way he plays guarantees he is going to get injured more often than most.

Yep. I did my ligaments a couple of years back in a spookily similar fashion to Martinez tonight. Fat feck landed full weight on the side of my knee as I hooked in a slide tackle and it twisted horribly. The pain was awful at first but eased quickly and I played on for a while as there was only a little bit of the game left. Kept me out for months and even when I was back to playing it only now more than a year later feels 'Sort of back to normal-ish'.

Christ he's had some bad luck. I really, really hope it isn't as serious as feared.

Chaps Rolls Royce. We are much better with him. I hope he isn't out for long.

We need him. Build up play and overall game is better with him.

I hope INEOS and new recruitment team can find same type of player that can play on right side of centre back alongside him.

Awful news for Martinez. Hope he makes a quick and full recovery. He is probably our most, under the radar, important player.

Such a shame with his injury. He's instrumental to our build-up and we don't have anyone with the same profile as him.
Very true. Luke Shaw is the closest. Did a very good job last season.
