Real Madrid must feel like Jordan Belfort selling penny stocks in Wolf of Wall Street.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
I actually laughed when he tried some crazy tackle at one point and the commentators were genuinely bewildered by what he was doing. They've obviously not seen much of him this season.

The one thing I will say is that we signed this guy who excelled at an elite level in a particular system, just as his legs were going. We've then asked him to try and cover even more ground than he did in his prime. It's just stupid and I can't blame the guy for what we're seeing, he's hung out to dry like anyone else that plays the lone midfield role for us. Ask him to defend compact spaces with a well organised team around him doing their bit, and we'd probably see a different player.

Rumour has it Casemiro went to Old Trafford expecting to play in Soccer Aid. He turned up and someone gave him a 5 year contract.

He is gone. Done. Cooked. Real Madrid sold us two over the hill players in Casemiro and Varane.

What a stupid ass signing. Glad we could fund Madrids smart buys and take varane and casemiro from them

Madrid recouping £60m and replacing him with Tchouameni and Camavinga is how we should really be run.

Was fantastic last season, but it's crazy how slow and out of sorts he has looked this season. Big decision needs to be made in the summer.

Another short-sighted expensive panic signing near the end of the transfer window. Hope the new hierarchy put a stop to these types of transfers immediately.

I feel like people are over exaggerating his form last season. From what I remember he started slow, hit a good patch, went out a bit, hit that good patch to get us the cup, then like everyone else finished like shit as we limped thru the end. Felt like half the season he was either suspended or in poor form. Hardly a stud all year

I think that may be a bit of recency bias creeping in, but i understand where you're coming from.

He had a lot of great games last season, many people on here would have had him as one of our most important players last season and he popped up with some crucial goals and performances when it mattered.

I don't think we'd have finished 3rd, and potentially we wouldn't have even won the League Cup if we didn't sign him, but it seems we got him riding the last year of his peak and now it looks like he has crested the hill in terms of what he can bring to the team.

I warned against the signing when it happened but many seemed to become defensive as he was apparently the best defensive midfielder in the world. To be fair he was really good for the first 8 months but this is the risk when you spend 60m on a 30/near 30 year old. I know people mock this phobia but it makes absolute sense given the room for error with these signings is minimal.

Being around 30 doesn't explain such a drop off in performances.

He's mentally checked out. Jogs around with zero desire to win the ball.

Some of his decisions on the pitch is remarkably clueless. If you the consider his experience at top level AND the position he plays where it is important to be composed and smart, it is just beggars belief.
Some good forward passing at times but his defensive nous is just shocking.

That's what you get when you buy a player who comes here to get his final paycheck. He spent his desire at Madrid, now we waits on the retirement.

Think the guy is not match fit yet.

Slow and doesn't look interested in doing the basics.

Hopefully Saudi Arabia will save us this summer

In first half stoppage time (I think) when he list the ball around half way with some really sloppy play and then didn't even bother tracking back leaving them with a 3 on 2 they should've scored from...my girlfriend was a bit startled by my slight fury towards the TV...

Would prefer to see Mainoo and Mount in there to at least give us some legs and effort in there.

What the hell was that. Not even trying anymore
I think he was trying way too hard to make an impression yesterday. The needless going to ground on about 4/5 occasions, the busting out of position to close down the wrong guy, even the hopeful long balls which are a bit of a penchant of his game that he's been dialling up to eleven. I was surprised it took us so long to haul him off. He was headless. McTominay was far better when he came on, and he arguably lost us the game.

Another dreadful performance in a long series of dreadful performances this season.

Like the poster above I do think he’s trying but he’s just not fit to play at this level anymore. The problem is the only alternative we have is Amrabat who is also gash.

Camavinga was there when Casemiro played for them

The only way this was going to work with Casemiro is if we got him someone with legs in midfield + set up the team to avoid making him run too much. He's still ok at screening the defence but he is being pulled all over the pitch due to our lack of shape/tactics. Basically what we did is the exact opposite what we had to to.

It's not like we didn't see it coming second half of the season.

I think he's trying but his body isn't responding.

He is Basically matic 2.0. good to see we learnt from our past mistakes.
Thankful for his contribution to the league cup last year

I’m sure he’s had fun here, and that’s all that matters. Scored a bunch of headers, got to ping the ball around and have an absurdly low passing accuracy % for a defensive midfielder. Jogged about a bit, maybe went to Wing’s in honour of van Gaal once or twice.

Seems his legs have gone along with his brain. Time he shipped out to Saudi or USA.
needs replacing.

He probably is fit to play at this level, just not as what he's known himself to be over the last decade. He needs to learn how to play as a veteran if he's still gonna be useful here. He reminds me of Batman getting his arse handed to him in the first act of Dark Knight Rises. He plays like a younger man.

Another in a long line of dreadful signings, the drop off from last season has been stark but I don't think he was amazing last season either. Those that proclaimed him as the second coming of Christ, obviously had their expectations lowered by the performances of the past decade.

Balanced perspectives
Calling his professionalism and saying he’s not trying strikes me as a bit childish and disrespectful.

He’s clearly not physically up to it any more. But you can’t question his commitment.

Some of you need to grow up.

him diving into sliding tackles so often last night is a sign that happens with players who know their legs have gone and cant get back, so they try hail mary type lunge tackles and try to win the ball or get a foul to stop the attack...either way they dont have to chase back. Think it was G Neville who said this years ago.

The only team that matters
At least there is a decent chance of a Saudi transfer for Casemiro.
That assumes he wants to go there and I'm not so sure we'd be getting the kind of fee some folks seem to think we would, that mad spending spree seems to have stopped now
