Colonialism and imperialism were the watchwords of the 1830s.
Dysentery, typhoid, small pox, street full of horse manure because car wasn’t invented yet, women consigned to being trad wife, high child mortality.

Why are these billionaire celebrities so fecking stupid? This is just Hollywood version of MAGA.

I don't really understand what your point is, but hopefully it's satire?
What’s hard to understand? Things I listed were pretty in vogue in 1830.

It’s always the super rich who has no real knowledge and sense of perspective who pine for a mythical past where everything is rosy for people with their means (except for a few uncomfortable things).

At least she's talented. If someone's gotta be famous I'd rather her than Nicky swinging her booty fecking Minaj

Some of her old classics will be evergreen years from now.

I like "all too well"
Tbf Nicky is also rather talented, just across a different genre. I'm not a huge fan of NM at all but anyone that outraps Kanye Jay Z on one track has to have something going for her.

Ugh. The thought of sitting down and listening to 31 Taylor Swift songs in a row is genuinely horrifying to me.

The standard album is only 16 songs long, thankfully.

Just listened through. Disappointingly generic for the most part but Down Bad and The Smallest Man In The World are good, and loml is up there with her best work. Nothing else jumped out at me.

  4. Midnights (2022)
  5. Speak Now (2010)

This one will probably grow on me once I delve into the lyrics. First time listening to 30 odd songs is just overwhelming.

Love how unhinged this is. Basically telling the toxic part of her fanbase to feck off. It's her life. Let her live it.

Really liking the new album. Probably my third favorite of hers, behind Folklore and Evermore. Second half of the album is stronger than the first, but I like the standard album quite well. It's a grower as well, quite a few songs I didn't care much for the first listen is getting up there.

In The NY Times yesterday someone was complaining about the new record, saying they didn’t like Swift’s songwriting and saying she’s not that great, “unlike Billy Joel.” Sounds kike a piss take but they read sincere. As awful as I find Joel, others love him. Same with just about every artist you can name. I despise rap and I never go in to threads talking about it, yet people really want to register negative views of Swift - why?

So this is a thread only for positive views then? Any other threads on the caf where such policing is needed? Why do you want everyone else to mimic you?

I thought folklore and evermore were bores and I feel the same about this one. Just nothing really there to grip me and want to listen again

I'd have reputation over almost all of them. Feels like a very underrated album

That’s a VERY strange take for a man who seems to only too keen to tell the world how many movies/film-makers he despises.

There's a difference between me reviewing movies in the movie review thread, and going to one thread specifically dedicated to Taylor Swift and repeatedly trying to tell the people therein that Taylor Swift is no good, or isn't as good as the legendary Billy Joel, or whatever. Shirley you can see that.

Why though? That’s like saying to someone they shouldn’t post in the thread about Antony unless they have nice things to say about him. You start a thread about anything in here and you should be ready to have that thing criticised. As you know from sharing your own, critical, opinion in multiple different threads about movies.

1.) I've never started a thread on RedCafe.
2.) If I popped in and out like a bird in a cuckoo clock in a thread topic I hate, people would rightly tell me to feck off, especially if I'm not adding anything new each time - as many of the haters are guilty of doing.

1) Ok. But irrelevant.
2) The conversation tangent we’re on now started with you expressing bemusement at a journalist for the NYT saying Taylor Swift isn’t a good songwriter. He literally earns a living sharing his opinions on music. For someone who showers this place with his opinions on film, for free, I maintain that’s a VERY weird stance to take.

Dedicated? It’s a thread on her, nothing more. You can start another worshipping thread if that’s all you want to see.

Shows your immaturity that this thread is full of haters and lovers for you. Don’t be under illusions that you add something “new” to this thread. So do expect to “rightly” be told to feck off.

It was a random person in the comments after the article. And I also get paid for my opinions on movies, or at least the ones I work on.

She makes good pop music. I have to say that the obsessive nature of her by a large swathe of fans is wild, I can't remember an icon having this kind of craze before.
