Didn’t we finish 5th that season? That was the reason for the sacking
On goal difference from 4th, but the football was terrible (though still with a positive goal difference).

I think Mainoo should be rested from time to time, but to be fair, that danish international should only be playing in the 10 position, he shouldn't be a straight swap for a more defensive minded player. It left us with no real cover in front of the defence.
Eriksen played deep most of last season, we just didn’t have a defensive player on the bench. If he felt Mainoo was on the edge of an injury, I’m not sure he could have done much else. I’d still think a midfield of Eriksen and McTominay should be able to see off a championship team with a two goal lead.

Let's hope so. I have zero trust in INEOS or Ratcliffe but let's see.
If they had any ambitions then they’d know sacking ETH could lead to us winning the FA cup. We all know the new manager effects, we’ve been on the end of a few of them.

He basically made his first sentence redundant with his last sentence, yes any man united side should be able to see off Coventry....unless managed by an awful coach
Howson is so clueless. I'm glad I don't watch him anymore.

Today just epitomised the shit show he has turned us in to, i wouldn’t have begrudged Coventry in the end and especially Mark Robins. They must regret that first half where they were so cautious, passive and gave us way more respect than we deserved.

He hasn’t learned his lessons all season, he’s getting the sack and can’t really complain. Won’t happen until after the Cup Final now but it’s guaranteed as it’s untenable to continue with him.

It's obvious. This season is more competitive.. Spurs, Villa, Liverpool are better, Citeh' and Arsenal are consistent as they were last season. ETH has been shown up. He's not good enough to compete with top managers.

How dare you defend him. Get back in your cave.
Trying to bee sarcastic is embarrasing.
Any half intelligent person knows that we are mourning about how we play and the totality of this fraud's tenure

Bizarre how he's changed his tune since last season, when good was "not good enough". Now he's protecting the players at every turn. Wonder why.

Erikaen in midfield is too lightweight and easy to play through. It’s a poor change, for me, and it’s not like we don’t have other examples of his changes adversely affecting games.
He’s definitely had plenty of subs come on and win us games so that’s just the nature of substitutions.

Eriksen played in midfield the whole of last year but I know what you mean. I don’t think he really had any midfield options, so if Mainoo was close to an injury, it is what it is.

To be honest coaching was not the issue today. Even though ETH should go. Complacency and lack of discipline at 3-0 up was the issue. Players started doing their own thing.

Sorry yes. I forgot myself.

In all seriousness I’m now 60:40 still in favour of stay. But maybe im wrong here I feel 3:0 up with 20 odd mins to go you should be able to take off 2 teenagers and bring on Eriksen and Antony and see out a game?

Like the players should be capable of that right?
The shape is horrible and invites pressure/shots, this isn’t new. He has spent a ton of money on the players you’re blaming for not seeing out the match. Losing from winning positions isn’t something that’s new to him, take the Ajax vs Spurs matches as an example, or Chelsea more recently.

After you go up 3-0, you take off your worst attacker (Rashford) and see out the match in a 4-5-1, get super compact and use Hojlund to stretch.

I don’t know why he went in that direction, it screams for a formation change, right?

That bloody fool Goldbridge still saying it's the players not the manager. fecking annoying
There’s a hint of truth to that. It can be both - and there’s clearly a few players who needs to be moved on as well. But overall, accountability ultimately stops with the manager. He’s the one picking these players (albeit, injuries haven’t been kind), he’s the one with the shite substitutions and he’s the one who has us playing like absolutely turd.

I’m not defending him, I’m over it. He has to go. I just hope we send a few of the players off into the sunset with him.

3 out of 4 domestic finals in 2 years. Yet people want him sacked :houllier:
Not watched any games this year?
We're battling to even come 6th this season, and the "style" of the team seems to be a few press while the rest don't, leaving vast spaces in the middle.
Teams are getting huge swathes of chances against us. Coventry had 18 chances today and we just about scraped through.

We've gone massively backwards on last season.

There is something wrong with squad mentality too. The posture is all wrong and Hojlund was celebrating alone at the end. There are definitely some bad eggs that need to be weeded out.

We need better leadership for sure and players who can set a new tone in the dressing room.

We really need the Saudi clowns to still be throwing insane wads around in the summer.
Otherwise Casemiro has 3 years left on insane wages and is only getting less mobile. Today was frightening, even at the "cigar" position at the back, against a lower league team.

Everytime Ten Hag lays an egg (which is nearly every game this season) his defence league come out and say its the players. Yeah we've known from time that the players are not up to it but a good manager would know that upfront and just not play them. The manager would also bring in replacements that make the team better and not contribute to making the team even worse. We have seen coaches go to clubs and rip the team up from day 1. You don't have to persist with shit if you dont like it. That's why you are manager. But if you go ahead and pick those same players regularly then its no longer on the players.
