I hope we stay away from dutch managers and dutch league players for a long long time after this fiasco

We've actually had rest possession; our players won't be dead on their feet inside 70min for the first time in I don't know how long.

ETH specifically chose Onana because he’s good at his feet. So technically that was on ETH.
Which he is. One recent mistake doesn't magically erase lots of good distribution from previous games. But I wouldn't be surprised if that is Caf's logic.

They wanted to still counter and be a threat. They had to change their approach because we played a controlled game, purposely slowing the game down. We abandoned that after 60 mins. In any case its only one game. The sample size of the season shows us being too open
I see what you're saying mate, but I think their tactics influenced how the game played out as much or more than ours. But either way it was just one match as you say.

Yeah, decent performance overall. Should be ahead and we've been in control for 99% of that half. Better.

Ah rest possession. A term that I haven't come across but a good way to describe control. I think we dicked around with it too much at the back line with horizontal play, but it is a makeshift defence so that's OK.

But the control element is probably because it's Sheffield and they're shite.

That ball at the end nearly made up for it! Shane the finish was poor.

I think this is a pretty good honestly. This is what he needs to deliver from now to the end of the season. Ignore the idiots who get too stuck up on one error in a half. Good possession, controlled the game really well, looked threatening and created chances against a parked bus.

Sure it's just SHU but tactically spot on for me.

yes. However, take the Coventry game, the only players signed by ETH in the starting lineup, were hojlund, Casemiro and Onana.

With Casemiro playing as a centre back. (I also think that was a United panic buy rather than a ETH choice).

I do think he wanted hojlund and Onana can’t deny that but you get the point.
Good save with “starting line up”

This. No manager is sorting this shit show of a club out single handedly. Get rid of about 12 of our players and buy smart with a support network around him, then judge him.
Just to clarify are any of those new 12 signings replacing any of the 12+ signings he already made?

Good distribution doesn’t magically erase all the basic goalkeeping mistakes he’s made before AFCON and his objectively awful performances in the CL

Eriksen was a freebie from last season who was actually pretty good for us last year but a very short term signing. Needs to go.

amrabat is a loan and will 100% be gone in the summer. Shows our lack of options.

Antony MIGHT come good yet although never worth the transfer fee, nowhere near it. Again what they paid for him is on the club.
But he is an option we aren't using, Eriksen is rarely used properly, he can't play in this nonsensical setup that Ten Hag employs but then they're all struggling with it.

Your original point I replied to was you saying you want almost of of the players out first for some reason. Most of them are his players by this stage, so if you want most of them out fair enough. But the guy who's wasted money bringing them to the club should follow them in that case.

Its probably the most controlled we have looked in a long time. I still think there is only so far we can go in terms of possession with these players. Casemiro's passing for example has been a little dodgy, as has AwBs, but its a decent first half.

But still, it's literally the first match since Wilkins got in and a lot of people (me included) couldn't see ETH changing his style....

Can anyone name a great performance under Ten Hag. I was thinking Barcelona in the europa league.? Really struggling to see why anyone would want him to stay.

Yeah for the first time in a while, it's obvious how better personnel would improve our play. The RW attack was a bit iffy, both Antony and AWB had chances to be more threatening than they were. Same with Casemiro's passing. You could see how better players in CB / RB / RW would improve us.

I'd like to see Amad come on for Antony.

He was awful in the CL but he didnt make that many basic mistakes before the AFCON. He was just compared to a prime DDG his shotstopping. He came up short in that comparison but Onana didnt actually make that many mistakes.

We looked controlled because we’re playing Sheffield United at OT. Who will finish below Coventry next season. Nothing to do with Wilcox

In my ideal summer it would be :

CB1
CB2
Licha (used as 3rd CB, rotations, LB cover etc.)
Tosin (free)
Kambwala (getting the carabao cup starts)

Even if you prefer to loan out Kambwala or would not go for Tosin, then just keeping one of them STILL gives you 5 CB's with each having similar profiles that we don't have to tactically adapt (something ETH supporters cry about to this day since he can only play with his absolute first choice players). Keep the system the same and have the profiles that replace instead of having CB1 and Licha injured and now having to play a completely different defensive style because you're stuck starting Maguire on the left or something.

Also wouldn't rule out Varane returning on a cut rate deal which I'd prefer over keeping either of Maguire/Lindelof simply because he brings more experience and can help lead that room more (don't think he will come back mind you, but with his comments about his body breaking down he might prefer being an elder statesmen at a big club than going to Saudi to be a starter or something).
All good points. We agree on one thing: we need 2 CBs. I’m not stoked on Kambawala being our 5th CB tbh. Probably needs a loan.

He’s made similar mistakes in the past so I wouldn’t classify his distribution as good.

Truly gullible if anyone thinks controlling possession against a relegated Sheff U has anything to do with Wilcox.

Martinez is injury prone because someone landed on his leg?
Hasn’t he injured his ankle , then reinjured it? Dicey… Are you comfortable going into next season with Martinez as your first choice CB? I’m not and it’s poor squad management if we do…
