No, we’d have a better keeper. DDG from last seasonis better than Onana of this season, surely noone disagrees with that anymore?
I don’t get the argument that we were right to replace DDG and just wrong in who we replaced him with. You replace a player when you can get someone better in. Replacing DDG with a worse keeper is the problem, you can’t separate the two.
You can. DDG needed to go, 5 years of underperformance and the highest paid keeper in the world. Absolutely ridiculous, because even with a drop in wages he would still have been one of the highest paid keepers in the world. Without the performance levels to back that up.
It would just have been rewarding mediocrity again.
And yes the bigger problem is the with the decision on who to replace him with. ETH has gone for a keeper who he knows suits his style, it's the same as when Pep went for Bravo, it's matching the keeper to the style you want to implement. He dropped City's number one for years to bring in a keeper to change the teams way of playing and bringing the ball out from the back. Bravo was a disaster, so he went for Ederson. Same style that suited the team, but just a better keeper.
The real bone of contention is his price, coupled with his performance levels. They don't match up, for 50m you expect a player to be a standout performer, he hasn't been that yet. And because of that price it's going to be a lot harder to replace him if he doesn't buck up.
