There's definitely some parrallels

Interesting watch that. Goes to show the huge part psychology plays when there's fine margins.
I don’t think the squad rate him. The back line seem nervous about him and it’s quite obvious when you watch them play. It’s pretty criminal what he did before the Lyon game on the back of his time at United - if I was a player in this team I’d be fuming about him.
Absolute liability and his good performances have been few and far between.
Unless Saudi come in for him we are stuck with him. Needs dropping for the rest c the season to force him out.
I saw that he was left at the back of the group when the players clapped the travelling fans. Looked a lone figure out there and even if they aren't fuming then he may have lost his confidence.

The guy cost us getting out the CL group stages last season, and could well get us knocked out of the EL, when we desperately need the money winning it could bring
He was shiit in that CL group games but he didn’t cost us the qualification. We were absolutely abysmal and prime VDS wouldn’t have won those games for us. Clown Onana actually saved the penalty that gave us our only win in a group with Copenhagen and Galatasaray… There is no excuse for how ETH fecked that up, not even his beloved keeper making all those mistakes.

But still he gotta go. His career is quite weird After that marvellous Ajax season in 2019 big clubs didn’t go after him.. he gets a suspension and when he is a free agent Inter Milan takes him. His serie A stats were really quite average, way below his Eredivise’s. Offering that kind of money based on ETH’s preferences was weird.

In his supposedly majestic season with Inter Milan (after which we bought him for 55M) he has 8 clean sheets in SerieA… the following season Sommer (bought for a tenth of that) managed 19 cleen sheets for them. Seems more like Inzaghi can put up a defence and Sommer is a much better keeper…

If the report of Amorim dropping Onana tomorrow but playing him for Lyon later in the week is accurate, what benefit does this bring?

If we are dropping him tomorrow, putting out that rumour is probably smart. If Bayindir has a good game it's easy enough to then go "well he now deserves to start against Lyon so I changed my mind", but if he has his own shocking match we can bring Onana back in without having completely destroyed his confidence. He wasn't 'dropped', he was 'rested'.

Of course I have no idea whether that is the thinking, or whether Amorim truly does expect to go Bayindir for Newcastle then Onana for Lyon. But having reports of that out there won't hurt either way. Of course, the other option is that the entire rumour might be wrong and we just go Onana for both.

If I'm a Lyon player next week, I'm just hitting it on target from anywhere. There's a good chance it'll go in or someone will knock it in on the rebound.

If I was any player playing against us I would be trying this. His constant parrying balls back in to the box is suicidal.

I'm just watching MOTD and I've paused it when he dives. Just before he dives he moves his left leg to the right so just like I said in my other posts he doesn't actually get any closer to the ball than if he just fell over where he was and it looks like the kid in my other post.
He more or less jumps up in the air ( not dive to the left) and lands. That's why he's not a good shot stopper. He doesn't dive. He just goes up and down in the same spot or actually further right because where he's supposed to be launching the dive from his left foot he moves it in the wrong direction.
Pause it before he jumps and he's not far off the centre of the goal and see where he lands. Basically where he started from if he'd just jumped up and stretched his body out. He doesn't get closer to the ball.
He should be stepping left with his right foot and not stepping right with his left.

Edit: Now watch where their goalie starts from and ends up with the JZ shot just after
If you can find this match of the day versus Spurs or any decent coverage. Give this a read when you watch it.

Don't underestimate how annoyed his team mates must be at his feck ups. You run your socks off in a game, only to be let down by a guy whose doesn't need to run half as much but still can't do his job properly.

Comparing how much outfield players and goalkeepers run in a match is silly and pointless.

If Bayindir does well, he should stay for the Lyon second leg at least. After all he was the ‘cup’ goalkeeper, and would presumably have played if he hadn’t been injured for some time.

Linking his ‘head space’ to a robbery as well is management 101, takes some of the heat out.

Big call, let's see how Bayindir does. If he plays well, it'll be difficult to drop him
Even if he does well today I still think Onana goes straight into the squad on Thursday. Amorim will want to try and show his support and it’s easy for him to drop him today and use an excuse that he’s taking him out the firing line

He's one of the worst signings we've ever made. Just useless at every possible facet of the game.

Hopefully this is the first step of somehow getting rid of him.

ETH's signings here were criminally bad. They've set the club back so badly.

I would still be shocked if he doesn’t start on Thursday. However, I really can’t see the club sticking with him post summer. Whether they are able to shift him is another story and may dictate how much we are able to spend on a replacement.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Onana gets left out again on Thursday. Just imagine another blunder in the game that defines the season and has such a massive impact on the summer and the future — he would really have to face the consequences then!

I don’t want to make an issue out of it, but I think this is poor management.

Not so much on the Onana side, but Bayindir is being thrown in at the deep end when he could’ve been eased in after his injury like he deserved.

Unless of course this is all coincidental and Onana is out for other reasons..

Surely this means Bayindir until the end of the season.

Don't see how Onana comes back from that this season at least. Vote of no confidence

Provided Bayindir does ok today, I absolutely do not want to see Onana back on Thursday, his performance in the first leg doesn't justify it and he needs dropping permanently.

If it was a one off, I could overlook it but he's made so many errors he cannot be number 1 anymore. Really needs selling in the summer, even when he's having some of his better games, I can't have any confidence in him, as you just know an error is just around the corner

I would rather him be dropped on Thursday. How many timea will he make mistakes in Europe? Hopefully Bayinder plays a Blyinder

The plan looks to be to bring him back on Thursday regardless, that's how I read it. Hopefully he's just giving that impression to avoid making Onana look like the hopeless case he is, and Bayindir gets a real opportunity to claim the position until the end of the season. Don't want to see Onana in a United shirt again.

It's hard to ease a goalkeeper in though. Not like you can bring them in for 20mins. He just has to be ready.

Yeah I doubt he’s playing, the ambiguity is just to give Amorim an out if Bayindir has a shocker later on today.
