I can still remember when we signed Rooney. It was an astronomical figure let alone for a teenager from Everton. I remember an article in The Athletic stating that Rooney would have been well over 110 million pounds today.

Rooney was a bargain, everyone knew it.

Gakpo sounds like a moderately powerful Pokémon.
Evolves into Grakpower and from Gikpie
Getting PES Man reds flashbacks with some of these player names
That takes me back…I still say ‘pro ev controls legacy defending’ when I play FIFA with the lads over a cheeky sesh…even a few years younger don’t have a clue what that means.

As for the main topic, I think we would be insanely overpaying. For this money we could get SMS and a striker or SMS and a great young keeper.

I know the markets inflated and we paid loads for Maguire blah blah blah but surely this fee is crazy?

Pretty sure Antony is worth more than one Dan James to Leeds (26M GBP) and one Andreas Periera to Fulham (8.5M GBP). The prices some people are quoting are absolutely funny.

I agree people are being ridiculous but if we're using specific examples is he worth more than casemeiro?

Either way I don't care id pay 100 for him

Rashford has at least made shots on goal and looked mildly dangerous. Sancho's done nothing so far this season.
Sancho on left shoulder be in theory more direct, he doesn't lose possess with every other touch either.
Rashford Sancho Garnacho LW
Elanga Antony Diallo RW

not exactly stacked with options if injuries occur are we
Might as well give the likes of garnach a chance, can't be worse than what we already have.
The point is to have 3 high level attackers to rotate and compete with each other, and whoever is out of form is benched for the game. Rashford is 100% capable of being part of the rotation. Selling him would be a terrible move.
He isn't high level though, hasn't been so for a season or two at least.

I take back what o said if ten hag improves him but at the moment it just seems Ole broke him by playing him after that injury, might be better to just cash in if we could of its still possible.

I remember being excited when Ajax was first linked to signing him.
His scoring and assist stats are deceiving, he often creates space and time for others to do both.
I really hope he can make the step up.

Walk away and invest that money elsewhere, another midfielder and a right back is more important than getting ripped off for neres v2.

If he comes, who goes to the bench?
3 man rotation between Rashford, Sancho and Antony. Form, injuries, fixture congestion, in game subs etc. Who was the "bench" for city last year, or between dias, mane, Salah for Liverpool? You need 3.

My thoughts exactly but now De Jong is off once and all we don't seem interested in anyone else of that style, therefore crazy as it is I see us breaking the bank for this guy

Sancho and Rashford are both that bad who cares.

Sancho has shown promise last few months and his age he will only develop nad get better under ETH. Rashford I would sell immediately. He's just another Walcott...good at early age shite after and I don't want him to hang around the club for years when his value is at its highest right now

In a market where Morgan Gibbs-White is 45M, Antony is 70M.

Why ? Because he had 12G/A last season in the "mighty" Dutch league ?

They bought him for 12.7m pounds(15m euros) from the Brazilian league, If we"ll pay them 40-45m euros the price is pretty much multiplied by 2.5-3 - that's more than enough.

If he cost that much and we are determined to sign him regardless, I hope we would sell Rashford to PSG for some good money

My only worry with him is that he looks like he might be a winger who features more in the build up to a goal instead of actually becoming a 20 goal a season scorer himself, and I don’t know if we will have enough goals in the side.

I'm a Chelsea and Brazilian national team fan, I really want this move to happen ASAP

Think that's a very valid concern

It's 2022 now, after Neymar transfer, the transfer fees are going nuts. 50 to 100 is the range now for elite potential players. 100 to 200 is the range for the sure world class one. We got Sancho for the lesser because of Covid and i think the market is back to its norm now.

Also, i think we should be happy when the club is spending to improve after the last 2 results. I think United fans can be a bit more like Barca or Madrid fans that demand more from their players and club. Be abit more spoil, more demanding, vocal to the club, and nutter. Theres a saying, " the crying baby will get the candy".

We have to pay what they ask. There's no way they would entertain anything less than what they quoted

More than enough in a parallel universe where prices are decided this way

I think one of the key attributes of Antony is progressive play. Something United lack Sancho links up the play and Rashford is too much of an inside forward even when he's in good form that's his instincts. I'd imagine Anthony to some degree would be like what a prime Hazard offered to Chelsea not the greatest statistics for goals but more of a rounded player in chance creation.

Get this lad in. Complete competition for many squad players and positions , links up with mid perfectly, get it done. Don’t care about the € cost, irritating as some may find that, it’s not our money.

Paying 80-100 million for antony will show we haven't learned any lessons from the Sancho transfer. Antony's output in the eredivisie is far worst than Sancho's who was in a more competitive league. 8 goals and 4 assists for the country’s top team in a campaign where Ajax scored 98 goals is not justifiable to be spending those type of figures on.

His main strengths are his work rate, flair, and crossing but his shooting, decision making and end product leaves a lot to be desired, while seemingly only being confortable playing as a rw so there isn't much versality. The games I've seen in him where teams have dropped deep he's been rendered ineffective and a literal ghost. That's not to mention his annoying petulance and diving antics when things are not going his way which is a lot considering his inconsistency.

We'd be paying 50-70 million over the odds for his youtube highlight reel, where all his mistakes, poor decision making is edited out which I think many fans are forming their opinions from.

If a player is not dominating making big waves in one of the weakest leagues in europe at the top Klub, then it would be ridiculous to bring them in here with such a huge price tag which brings extra pressure and scrutiny. You just have to look at what is happening with Martinez who was butchering everyone and rated best defender in the Eredivisie to see it's a massive jump in quality coming straight from there to the epl

100m euros. I can smell the desperation from the other side of the world. That being said, he will be a very good player for you IMO.

His club just refused a more than fair offer of an amount that they had been holding out for all summer for him, I'd be pissed too.

They have a right to refuse any offer, regardless of being "fair" sometimes its not even about that, it would be different matter if they trying to twist his arm in some way.

Do you remember that professional guy who played for us but we kept him as a slave?

I wonder how his career turned out?

Bet CAF liked slave part, dont care about his cnut career.

Spanish teams have been tapping up players for years with these sort of tactics. It’s time we learnt their dark arts…

Its not really a dark art.

Ya he’s way too eager to join us , feck him

Money must be to good.

No you are right - we want players that we have to drag out of their clubs training sessions because they’d rather stay.

Never said that we should want such players, dont make shit up.

Did you have the same opinion on Berbatov? Pretty sure he refused to train too

If he refused, then yes, why i shouldnt have same opinion.

Bet you all wouldnt mind if situation was reversed.

Don't understand your thinking? If we overpay for one, that leaves us less for the other or reduced the options. Have you not heard of a budget? Is that how you spend your money?

€100M for Antony!

Murtough cannot remain on the job after something like this, surely? This shouldn't even be entertained. Not even as a joke.

What is going on in this club? They were haggling with Barcelona over 5M, now suddenly jumping at 20M intervals? :wenger:

Hope its a red herring. Laughing stock if we pay a 100million regardless of currency for Antony.
