When Ashley Young at left back is our best player at a home game we should be dominating, you know you've got a problem.

Well done to him, but he could do with some of our actual attacking players contributing.

Gets in to good positions, then doesn't get his head up.

Makes you wonder what the others are doing if a 32 year old who was on his way out is now probably our best fullback.

Ah, the good old caf complex - If a disliked player performs, dont just simply praise him - mention that the problem lies somewhere else or how this must be bit of a fluke :D

Always been a fan of Young so glad he's had another chance. Always top of the list of in/outs for the caf too. Never understood it as he's a great backup and regularly has a positive effect when used.

Has he ever played on the right? I can't recall him doing so for us or Villa, but surely he'd offer more over there than our current options.

And we could then put a LB at LB!

When did Young become such a good fullback??? He's not world class or anything but he's definitely good enough to be a back-up or squad option.

If we get a good RB, I don't mind him at LB for another season. But the problem is, he like Valencia, could regress any time, so I'd still like 2 new FBs.

Was singled out a few times today and let Knockaert get the best of him, but his attacking contributions were excellent for the most part.

Always looked dangerous as a backup winger imo. He's basically just doing that, but he's switched on enough to defend alright at times too.

Ashley Young has started 9th consecutive game for us I’m the PL. I’m not sure even SAF started him in 9 consecutive games. Great

Attacking wise he's good, but Brighton were getting far to much joy down his side.

Easily MOTM. Our main attacking threat. Made some fantastic runs and delivered some nice crosses into the box. Deserved his luck for the goal. Great game.

Much derided part of the squad, so many want him gone, but he's a solid edition to the squad, extremely versatile and always puts in a shift. Great game today, can't fault his application nor effort. Players who perform when they play should be rightly played, nor relying on reputation nor reputed ability. Well done Mr Young.

Interested to see how Stephen Howson will try to discredit him now.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

For a few years now. It's happened a couple of times now - he's basically last choice there until all our other leftbacks fail and he finally gets a shot, then it becomes obvious he's better than any of them. Then either through an injury or the end of the season, he drops back down to last choice and has to wait until he finally gets a chance again to remind everyone why he should be 1st choice.

I think it's largely just application. Clearly he was going to struggle to stay at the club as an attacker, van Gaal gave him a chance at wing back and he's worked incredibly hard at it to earn his place in the squad.

The flip side is that Shaw should be taking a very hard look at himself and his his attitude differs to Young's.

I love what he is doing. When you have a striker like Lukaku or even Zlatan and Fellaini behind him, its essential to put an early ball in. He doesn't do too much trickery or drag things on, just shows the ball to the defender, pulls it onto his right foot and sends a cross in. Its upto the striker to go and win the ball after that and as a fullback that's all you have to do, give the strikers a chance in the box.

MOTM today. If only he's 10 years younger, the left back won't be an issue anymore.
