Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
When we saw multiple videos of people saying they don't care about X family member losing a job over Brexit and how economic pain was worth it to keep all immigrants out, that was my lightbulb moment that it was nothing more than "upsetting the remainers" and xenophobia. It was all about punching someone (politically) just for the sake of punching someone.

How much of right-wing western politics is now sold to the public as inflicting self-harm to make "X" upset? I'd say the vast majority?
It's like football fan culture. Insane.
Bang on.

Divisive, tribal Politics, designed to tap into people’s deepest fears and hatred…

It’s so far from a Political system based on logical policies that benefit the Nation.

Strange times indeed.

Feels as though we’re in the end times of the political model that’s been in place for many generations, and it’s just degenerated to the point of mud slinging and conspiracies and resentment.

There’s more coherent leadership qualities from sports stars than politicians.

Huge volumes of EU pork is flooding the UK market and undercutting British farmers just as the industry is battered by an unprecedented labour crisis, a top supplier has warned.

A severe shortage of butchers has caused a significant backlog of pigs on farms – and now low prices for British produce has left some farmers facing bankruptcy.
No wonder they want total control of the media. Can't have stories like this getting out.

Can't understand why those affected aren't out protesting. Oh wait they've banned that haven't they. Hmmmm

I don't think Boris is good at his job

That will be my first and last contribution to this thread.
Wasn’t very good as a mayor either but he’s good at beating those British drums which is all that matters to voters these days it seems. Says a lot for intelligence levels

Nope but the narrative seems to be that he was a brilliant mayor.

Depends who you talk to I guess. Lots of tories I unfortunately know talk about what a great mayor he was.
My perception is from afar, so it could be totally inaccurate. But from that point of view, the narrative that I remember was that he was a gimmicky, clownish mayor.

I thought that he was seen as a clown?
It was both. He was seen as a bit of a clown but also a significant upgrade from the abomination that was Ken Livingston. Life in London got quite noticeably better after Boris arrived but whether that was down to him being good, or just not as bad as Livingston is debatable.

The apparent (i don't live there anymore) return to shite under Sadiq Khan suggests he might have been alright after all.

The only good thing I'll say about the clown Boris is that his climate policies and actions do seem legit and he does seem to want to implement real change, maybe that's something to do with having such young children.

Honestly, call me cynical but I think he’s realised how fecked we are for fossil fuel energy supply now we are out of the EU and as we don’t have our own sources like Norway they know they’re going to have to drive towards making us self sufficient and renewable is the only PR friendly option for that.

You can fully expect them to make a big drive towards coal and fracking too but they will do that on the quiet and we will only here when people campaign against it.

I wouldn't call that cynical based on his track record. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit because I'm so desperate for world leader's to actually do something.

Don't you have your own sources of Oil in the North Sea? Or did I imagine it?

We’ve got fracking too. I didn’t say we don’t have any sources, I said we don’t have sources “like Norway” - a comparable country outside the EU who produce enough fuel for themselves and export the rest.

Is there any momentum building in the UK for holding someone accountable for any of this?

I like to think politics moves like a pendulum over time - Boris/Trump being on the 'make sh*t up and bear no consequences' side of the swing. But the public should respond correctively. Eventually. I hope.

I reckon it's cost us about £15,000 so far, possibly more. OK, we don't have to live in a European country, but we had to make a choice when free movement stopped and we own a paid-for property here in Italy.

Nope, the Tories are riding high in the polls still and everyone was pretty much ingrained as leave or remain that seemingly next to no-one has changed their minds, despite the shambles. I'm sure it can be written off as teething pains for a while yet. No-one cares who was to blame and which of the party's mates profited from it. It's every man or woman for themselves, with the main fight being elbowing your way in to get some fuel or have a stand up fist-fight in Asda over the last remaining pack of pigs in blankets.

It's impressive how effectively they manipulate the narrative/masses.

Maybe I should give her a religious sermon about about how Brexit is fecking up the UK economy.
We all know what Christmas is about. Making money for the shops. Commercialised one upmanship. Bigger this. More of that. Spending far too much money on far too much crap that nobody really wants.
And never actually understanding the real purpose.

Correct but it’s not for her to use that as an excuse for pains caused by brexit

next they’ll be saying tell kids Santa doesn’t exist. Get them used to real life

I normaly order a shoarma on xmas day, fish salad on boxing day
This reminded me that woman who was upset to see a black family in a John Lewis christmas advert. She'd be livid if she knew that you eat middle eastern food on christmas day.

I bet she would but why does Turkey have to be a mandatory dinner? I did have Turkey Shoarma a few weeks back and it was ace

I don't know, here it's more Capon but even then I don't know if anything should be mandatory. I don't think that food is the most important part.
