Here in Italy we've been getting shedloads of money from the EU as a post-Covid stimulus, as have the other member states. It's great, we're even getting infrastructure improvements in our little village.

Shame the UK lost out on that.

That's not really what he said. He is still selling the idea that they can negotiate a deal with the EU that makes Brexit a success.
He did back in June which was what the interviewer was referring to:

He said Brexit in its current form had sparked a number of challenges, including shrinking exports to Europe and issues with the Northern Ireland Protocol, and that these and other problems would “disappear” if the UK chose to rejoin the single market.

But of course Ellwood is as ignorant of how it all works as the rest of them.

But it's not the case. Look at the quotes carefully, he is suggesting that the UK and the EU should create a single market not that the UK should join the current one. He talks about creating a single market and then refers to "that single market". He is doing what you have been complaining on a daily basis, unicorns and cherry-picking.

I took the other quote from his local paper the Bournemouth Daily Echo but found his quote in the Guardian:
“All these challenges would disappear if we dare to advance our Brexit model by rejoining the EU single market (the Norway model),” he wrote.

It caused a big stir amongst his fellow Tories.

Either way it isn't happening and wouldn't solve most of the problems.

The weird thing about that is that we’re paying for it in Ireland as a wealthy northern state and I’m in Italy right now and I can tell you the infrastructure and public transport are absolutely miles ahead

So a big reason for Brexit was the free flow of labor from other parts of Europe but now it seems the not British enough are next.

It is funny that those that voted to leave say it wasn't to do with being a racist but just not wanting foreigners in the country taking those brilliant jobs of picking in fields and washing cars and yet everyone has been happy to welcome the white skinned Ukrainians into the country so much that they have even been happy to welcome a family into their homes but it's the complete opposite reaction to non white immigrants that are also escaping other war torn environments

Apparently some don't even want the dark skinned british born non-immigrant but are happy with the white New York born buffoon. Non white immigrants have no chance.

Guy Hands saying what a lot of his Tory chums are thinking but refuse to admit.
The British economy is structurally fecked until it revisits Brexit.

In fairness, while I agree with the overall sentiment of this post, our approach to the refugees from Ukraine was undoubtedly amongst the least welcoming and with the most bureaucratic hoops amongst all the European countries (almost like we were trying to dissuade them from coming......).

That radio caller is such a prick. Will be funny to see their barely concealed rage over the next few months with PM Sunak at the helm.

The UK have let in less Ukrainian refugees per capita than most EU countries (e.g Ireland). The Tories intentionally made it very difficult.

We're very happy now to have the right to live in a European country, even with our bizarre new government. Of course, the whole (deliberate) premise of Italian politics is that all governments are coalitions and they always break down, which prevents one party staying in power for years and years. The UK could learn from that.

Even Meloni with her ultra-right roots knows that we have to stay in Europe. There's no sensible alternative, none at all.

Britain faces low investment climate, labour shortage, increasing trade deficits, higher interest rates and a ballooning fiscal deficit. The country is fecked.
The biggest scandal is that all these are being discuseed as transitionary and not long term structural problems. What's worse, Labour don't want that discussion either.

Ah. But Boris got Brexit done..... didn't he?
Well and truly done. But never confuse political statements with facts. Especially Tory political statements aka lies and bullsh1t.

Leaving the EU is going to take many decades to recover from if ever.

Brexit red tape puts brakes on UK innovation and EU sales
Many new products now need multiple safety test facilities for home and abroad, say entrepreneurs

British inventions are being brought to market overseas because new Brexit safety certification rules mean they can’t be sold in the UK.

Trade bodies and entrepreneurs have blamed the government’s decision to stop accepting the European Union’s CE mark and instead create a new UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) mark showing that a product is safe.

When the new system is in place, it means a manufacturer will need to pass one set of tests for the EU and another for the UK, creating extra layers of red tape. But some things cannot yet be tested because the UK has no facilities to test building products including glue, sealants and glass, or some medical supplies.

UKCA - next bullet in the foot approaches. Dear Brexiters, you were told you but you just wouldn't listen.

So the brexiters were right all along. Brexit seems to have been a massive, unprecedented success ever since the assholes kicked themselves/ourselves out of Europe. :(

feck me, he’s still flogging that dead horse? The vaccine rollout had nothing to do with EU as mentioned a million times, and even if it did, most EU countries caught up within no time, so it had very little to no effect on anything, not opening up and certainly not on the most important figure of all when claiming it’s success.
If that’s the best “success story” so far from Brexit, that should tell you everything about these daft corrupt cnuts.
