Castles: Mourinho given green light to spend in January

So the article says we'll have about £80m to spend on a LB, CM and a left footed winger. If this is true and Rose is the LB, that's about £45m of that budget gone, so we'll have about £35m left for the other 2 positions. I really can't see us spending that little on the other 2 positions, unless the players contracts were running out. So, perhaps Goretzka and Ozil? Well, Ozil isn't really a winger either, so I'm taking the article with a pinch of salt.

Ooooh, 90m, so much, we can just about buy an average player for that.
United have a scouting team for a reason. Idk why everyone acts like good players have to be superstars and can't be unearthed and bought for less.

90m euros should be able to get United one top tier player (maybe not a superstar) and one squad/backup player should need be.

I want to believe (unzip) but I don't think this is likely to be accurate.

Would be a great signal of intent and could really help us if we were to really bolster though.

why do we need a CM? Would we really sign someone who would start ahead of Matic? Assuming mourinho wants to play 2 CMs, because that is obvious
With Carrick and Fellaini likely off in the summer, we'll need two between now and the start of next season. We don't really have cover for Matic and we're short of creativity from deep when Pogba is out.

Carrick is done, Fellaini might leave, herrera is not in great form. Usually Mourinho likes a controlling cm when he plays 4-3-3 and also the drop from pogba quality to anyone else is too much.
5 good central midfielders are required for a squad. Pogba, matic, herrera, Fellaini, 5th space is open.

I would so much more prefer that we give Luke Shaw a chance - rather than sign Danny Rose - who really is nothing special. And we need a central midfielder/attacking midfielder of quality much more than a left back/winger when we have Shaw and Young.

Shaw still has lots to prove us, yesterday game was an easy game . He is still down the pecking order but his opportunity might come now in the tight run of games in December.

How about we stop hoping he will come good eventually and fix our left back problem once and for all?

Pay Schalke 20M to sign Goretzka now as opposed to losing him on a free, do the same with Ozil and pay £40M for Rose. That’s 80M.

Do it as soon as the window opens.

Because it adds strength in depth. Matic has played almost every single minute and is now playing with a knock. He can’t sustain this throughout the season.

I get it that you are convinced that Jose will only ever want to play a #10 with 2 midfielders. Even if Pogba represents something different to a normal midfielder. We may disagree on this. But do you not think having another quality midfielder is a sensible thing with view to Matic and Pogba not needing to play every game and, if disaster strikers, either gets injured?

I like the sound of this. It might be near £50M for Rose but it still works out.

Sell:
Darmian £10
Blind £10m
Mata £10m

Sign:
Griezmann £80m
Rose £50m

This is obviously the dream January, but super unlikely. Budget of €90m + try to make €30-40m from sales and hope that you get there.

I'd like to think we get more than that for those players. Each one should be closer to 20M.

More change of Palace winning the league than that happening.

Not a good idea in my opinion as we would sell three players available for UCL and sign two who wouldn't be allowed to play for us. If a few injuries kick in or we are forced to rest players (Valencia says 'hi') we would have a big problem - on positions we are already short in.

This sounds more like a summer scenario to me - for that it would be a dream though!

Just hope Shaw's performance yesterday shows that he'll be good enough, and we can spunk the money on a rw and a cm.
If he can stay focused and fit, would be a waste to buy Rose. I believe he's the better player of the two, just has a few issues that he's got to over come.

For the 90 million, we need better right wing options, a specialist and maybe an additional midfielder. We're sorted for CB, LB, LW, No 10's and strikers. Not many top quality right wingers going to be available in January.

Biggest problem with Shaw is not performances (although he is defensively suspect) but his injuries. Just like Jones, he can't stay fit for more than 5 games in a row. He has made just over 30 apps in over 3 seasons with us, surely it's not good enough. Our only decent option is Young so LB should be a top priority together with RW.
I think it's all psychological.
Don't think he's been injured as much as we're led to believe.

I think it's unlikely but this makes no difference to me. People worry about players being cup-tied but we aren't strong enough to win the Champion's League anyway so who cares.

Darmian and Blind are in the prime playing years and are worth at least double or more. Mata is also good for about 20m.

Imagine signing anyone:drool:
LOL.
That's what I am thinking.
I am absolutely convinced that we won't be signing anybody this Winter.
Jose was desperate for Perisic last Summer. The club said "no".
Why would they release funds in the Winter, when they refused to do so in the Summer.

IMO, Jose will need to sell, before he buys - not only to fund transfers, but to keep the collective wage biil within reasonable limits.

I think we have enough players as things stand. Players will have to leave if others are arriving. We have no idea if miki and mata are training well but lingard is keeping them out at the minute with his good form. Darmian could leave and wouldn't really be missed. Ditto with carrick. Tuanzebe needs a loan. Mc tominay will probably get a nice loan next year on the back of this season if the club wants to do that.

If Ozil comes then one of miki and Mata will leave
If goretzka comes he'll be replacing carrick
If darmian or blind leave tuanzebe and Shaw could cover their games but another signing could happen for that area.
If AG7 comes it won't be until the end of the season to replace zlatan.

That would be lovely.
I still have very high hopes for Shaw, and after last nights very decent performance my hopes remain so I would be inclined to leave LB until the summer if possible (I know it's a risk to rely on Young), but Goretzka and Ozil for £20m each would be fantastic and would give the squad a big boost. Essentially they would replace the aging Carrick and the out of favour Mkhitaryan.

In the summer all we would need to add is a pacy winger and possibly a young RB to cover Valencia.

Ozil and Goretzka could realistically (if their clubs wanted to recoup at least some money in January rather than nothing in the summer) be got for a combined £30 million most likely if not even less so that would be a 10 and a central midfielder.

Personally don’t think we’ll sign a quality right winger in January as no one of genuine quality is/would be available and we’ve spent enough money on average players over the years so I’d say make do on the right side til the summer, if a quality left back is available then I’d say it’s a priority and would allow Young to rotate on the right with Valencia which would allow Young to not have to cut inside every time to put the ball in the box.

Perisic is the missing piece of the jigsaw. Snap him up at any cost if it means completing Mourinho’s ideal side.

Getting Alex Sandro would be fecking ace. Outside Marcelo, he's the best left wingback, imho. And at the right age also.

If we don't sign a RW, we should at least recall Pereira and give him a shot there.

Goretzka would be the most sensible signing for us IF he is attainable in January!
Goretzka is not leaving in January. No chance.

Inter will never sell him midseason. Perhaps in the summer, but I doubt it, unless he forces a move. He really is irreplaceable to Inter.
