Pogba allowing a man 6 inches shorter than him to win the ball uncontested from the free kick was the main mistake for the goal. Smalling giving away a free kick 40 yards out is not ideal but we should be dealing with it.
He shouldn't get dragged out of position so easily. Smalling has a problem with getting dragged out of position into stupid areas, he does it alot especially when his brain isn't switched on and teams probably plan on exploiting it.

Sad part is he will probably still be here next season.

No player at a side like United should be as shocking on the ball as Smalling is. Its pathetic.

They defend as a team to grind out results. Any of our CBs would look good with all that protection. Their issue is on the other side of the pitch going forward.
Yeah, we need defenders who can play out from the back. Smalling obviously can't. Send him to Burnley, it's his level.

He was very poor for the goal bu giving away free kick by pathetic dive, and then not winning the ball.

Why Jones didn't for initial header is beyond me. It was pathetic goal to concede.

I personally think he should be behind Bailly, Rojo, Jones and Lindelof.

I actually thought Lindelof looked as though he was coming on quite well in the run of games he had.

Don’t think he was as bad as is being made out. Granted he gave away the free kick but it should have been dealt with when it was swung in and Ritchie shouldn’t have been left completely unmarked.

A page of over emotional postings just because we lost!
He wasn't at fault for the goal but the usual people wanting a scapegoat have theirs
second away game in a row that he is bad. And for goal he dived, than allowed his player in the box to pass the ball. Before that he made a stupid foul for penalty. After that he had some really bad decisions( example in last minutes when he was near the ball and decided to stay back and allowed attacker to collect the ball).
So no, he is not scapegoat, he was the main reason(with jones) why we lost our two last games. Of course not the only reason, lots of other player were bad( pogba, lingard, mourinho) but he was our biggest problem.

No technical ability
No defensive nous
No leadership after being at united for good 7 years
Cant pass
Cant organise
Cant jump most of the times
No intelligence
Touch of a brick wall
Takes ages to release the ball
Keep holding the oppo player and grabbing the shirt in the penalty area

And the way he shifts and adjusts his body to pass to someone is so infuriating and hilarious at the same time. I really dread to think what VAR would do when he is playing for us.

We all love United
He's a fecking brainless idiot and i don't ever say that before on our players. He's going to cost us more points and losses if Jose continues to play him and ultimately his job

He made 2 interceptions and 7 clearances with 1 blocked shot. Also 8 headers.

Jones made 2 interceptions, 2 clearances 1 blocked shot and 1 tackle & 2 headers.
These stats always look so shockingly low for 90mins of action don't they!

Jones made 2 headers? In a game of 90mins? Can't believe that.

Look at the state of him.
Newcastle had the ball, so i'm a bit surprised the ref blew there. It was still about 40 yards out, so hardly prime free kick territory.
Although it obviously suddenly became one!

He’s just not very good. Certainly not good enough to be playing for a team that has aspirations of winning league titles. Ridiculous he’s still here.

Kinda. But you'd be surprised how many times people rave about performances of CBs when they have so few tackles and interceptions. Jones made 2 headers because Smalling took charge on most of them and the clearances. So yeah it does look low but sometimes when your partner is making lots and taking charge its going to happen.

Nobody in our team made more than 2 tackles. Nobody made more than 2 interceptions. Nobody made more than 1 blocked shot. Smalling made more than double anyone else's headers or clearances but again, thats because he took charge on a bunch of occasions. So thats the context for the numbers being low.

Someone will have to post a replay @GifLord (?). Whilst he was under 'some' pressure, he fecked up by turning, had a loose touch (not 'good' footwork') then dived.

Basically it boils down to his lack of composure and ability on the ball. Not even his ardent supporters can spin that.

Been saying he isn’t good enough for years. How he is still here is baffling.
It's amazing to think he's 29 and we signed him at 20!
How time flies!

But then Fellaini has been here 5 years and Mata 4 1/2. Not many would have seen those lasting those times either.

2nd half was all us, we were creating opportunities and Newcastle were under severe pressure. Smalling dive presented them with an opportunity to release that pressure and ultimately it resulted into a goal. This place has a habit of scapegoating players but in Smalling's instance today it is absolutely justified.

We should've shipped him off instead of Tuanzebe. He's an accident waiting to happen every time he steps on the pitch.
