Couldnt give a rats. All i care for is how we do.
This. The obsession in this forum with Liverpool is kind of annoying. There seem to be some people who hate Liverpool more than they love United.

Look City winning a league title gets forgot about quickly enough but if anyone honestly believes the media will allow us to ever forget a four trophy season they are mad.

As much as I hate Liverpool, as much as it would get the headlines, Liverpool will one day win the league title. I'd rather accept that than never be able to point out that our treble is English football's greatest ever success.

City are a fake, cheating club and anything they win has no value.

Difficult decision. I don't think a Liverpool title will cause a renaissance for them but we'll never hear the end of it.
However, what City are doing at the moment is scary. If they win the quadruple it will eclipse what SAF did and become the team of choice for the new generation.
Ideal would be a major collapse for both of them and Utd win an unlikely treble.

City quad, I know no city fans, but the pool ones I know will just be so unbearable.

I don't ever want City to beat our treble season with a quadruple. If they do that and keep the momentum going we become the 2nd club in Manchester in neutrals eyes.
Exactly. It will eclipse our treble which has lasted for 20 years.

At least if Liverpool win the PL - and that will be painful enough because I love that they've never won it - I think we will have more chance of eventually catching their haul, and probably overtaking it. We are unlikely to ever better a quad - do we want City to have that kind of permanent honour?

If i have to choose, prefer City quad, as in some countries they might think it was United that won it all.

The way I see it:

If Liverpool win the league, we still have more than them.

If City win the quadruple, it’s the biggest achievement in the history of British football, something which currently goes to our treble winning side.

So really City's quadruple is worse and it’s a tribute to how much Liverpool fans are able to get under the skin of ours to think otherwise.

Honestly, something tells me neither of these things will be happening this year anyway.

Overhaul Liverpool? We’ve won more top league titles than them, have I misunderstood? As much as I don’t want them to win the league it’s not as bad as City winning the Quadruple.

The best scenario is for City to win the PL and for us to win the FA Cup

I’ll take the scenario of Sky inevitably inviting ‘Man City legend’ Noel Gallagher on again to see his shit eating grin when we play them at OT, over the horde of Liverpool fans crowing about this potential achievement and how they beat OPEC until the end of time.

Don’t see City winning the Champions League as I don’t think they’re better than Barca, Real, Juve or PSG and I’d fancy us to beat them if we met in the FA Cup so I’ll go with City winning the league and league cup over Liverpool winning the league.

No way I’d have Pool win the league or ever.

Personally I don’t think City will win the quadruple & I don’t think they’ll win the ultimate treble. They’re going to fall short in the champions league but I can see them ending up with the Carabao, Premiership & the Fa Cup.
Even then the FA Cup might be a battle for them if we end up in the Final too. Because for us it might be the only realistic Trophy challenge we going to have this season.

Only a question that is asked for non-locals or young fans. Man City were not competing until they got oil money. United is the big brother that started his own business and became a billionaire, City is the little brother that won the lottery.

Chelsea won the CL and they are nowhere near the 'big 3' when it comes to following. City will have to spend decades at the top of football to catch up to Madrid, Barca and United.

I agree.

I meant that Liverpool winning the PL is nothing we can't match even if they equal/overtake us - badly worded, sorry.

Got to think about this more logically. If city win the quad, that would be something no other team has EVER done. Making history! Bettering our amazing treble! There is no bettering of a quad (well not to my knowledge) and if there was imagine how difficult that would be with the level of teams not just in the league, but across Europe! On the flip side Liverpool are just an itch you can’t scratch and we’d never hear the end of it. To put it short if Liverpool won the league we can potentially win it the next season but the quadruple.. I doubt that!

I’m afraid I’d have to say I’d rather Liverpool win the league and brag about it for another 50 years no hope we win the next to shut them up again!

Liverpool will come 2nd and City will drop out of the champions league so it’s all good :D

As a non-United fan, I would imagine Liverpool winning the league would be worse.

This would be a truly great achievement, to finish ahead of a team that accumulated 100 points last season, and will probably get around 95 this season. Even the hardest of hardcore Liverpool haters would have to admit that.

City play some great football, and no-one can deny that Guardiola is a great coach, but they are now utterly soulless, and when they do finally win the CL it will be a completely hollow victory and empty achievement. Everyone knows this. Even City fans know this, that's why they're (a) so defensive about it, (b) some of them even wish they could return to the old days.

Because every one of their fans knows that if they hadn't had obscene amounts of money pumped into the club, by a group of highly compromised individuals with absolutely no geographical or cultural links with the club whatsoever, then they would be exactly what they were before that happened...a completely irrelevant also-ran.

City winning the quadruple isn't an achievement. It was a bigger achievement when I did the quadruple on Football Manager with Stockport.

Exactly you would have had less money - City are like when you find a cheat mode on a game and win everything, it is inevitable, means nothing and provides no satisfaction - everything they have achieved in the last few years is totally and utterly meaningless and their fans have nothing that they can brag about.

Both are a shambles - it's a matter of time before Scouse win prem so I'd rather that than City outdo our treble.
I tend to agree. The thought of both makes me sick; however, the quadruple would give the financially inflated neighbors something we’ve never done. Also, it’s not like the Scouse have never won the league, they just haven’t in the Premier League era.

I think it’s a losers attitude to even debate this. Who cares who wins if it’s not going to be us.

Do you guys think pogba, OGS, or any other players/managers are saying “I hope Liverpool don’t win the league” and “I hope city don’t win the CL?”

It’s cool to have favorites and hope a certain team wins, but to wish for defeat of specific teams is a losers attitude , in my opinion.

Not every Liverpool fan is an asshole singing about plane crashes, for example. Shit happened in the past... hate the people that sing about non sense but to hate a club and it’s players (that aren’t assholes) is childish.

“That's not the sign of a true champion for me. He's celebrating my loss... He's celebrating somebody else's victory.”
I think this quote holds true... and speaks of the mindset champions should have.

I disagree with this point of view....Nothing’s ever really “a matter of time”.Matter of time could also mean another 30 years...But just because they look good right now doesn’t mean that they will eventually win the league under Klopp if they fail to win it this season.

When they finished 2nd under Gerrard Houllier, everyone said that it was a matter of time before Houllier won them the title....When they finished 2nd under Benítez, similar things were said....And when they finished 2nd under Brendan,a section of the media even proclaimed that Liverpool were on the brink of building a dynasty under Brendan...

We all know what happened next....Winning the Premierleague isn’t just inevitable for any team, you have to make it happen. If Liverpool fail to win it this year they might not get another shot at the title for the next 6-7 years....

The reason I don’t want Liverpool to win the League is they’re our nearest rivals in League wins, don’t want them getting nearer. Besides that I see a Liverpool fan socially who can’t see past them and would be unbearable.

Still want to know why my earlier thread was moved to the FF, as it’s patently a United topic. Things have gone badly downhill since I was an admin....

You are philosophical and that is beautiful. But let's look a little deeper at what you say.
You say this: "Not every Liverpool fan is an asshole"
That's a major statement. Quick thought experiment shows it to be questionable. You love your wife/girlfriend/dog/mum/whatever. You really do. Now imagine somebody you hate. That person/dog happens to fall into one of those categories (wife/girlfriend/dog/mum/whatever). Meanwhile there is someone else who loves that person/dog. Really loves them. While you really hate them. Doesn't that effect the way you view that person the person who really loves them- at all?
I'm guessing it would. And negatively. To the point where you think less of them. ("Asshole" can be a catch all term for the way one might characterize such a person.)
Think about it. I'm right (or wrong).

Liverpool still have to catch us, we've got 20 titles to their 18, which will be 19 if they win it this season. But in either case, City quad would be devastating, I can accept 1 PL win from Liverpool as long as we get stronger and start winning it ourselves again, to make the gap bigger again and make sure they're firmly knocked off their perch permanently.

I mean, it must be nice for them, to some degree! It can't have been particularly enjoyable for hardcore City fans to live through the Fergie years!

But I'm afraid everything that they achieve is completely hollow. And not only that, but I think many people don't realise what goes on in the UAE, and what the people who own City are implicated in.

Liverpool will win the league eventually; whereas City probably won't be in a position to win the quadruple again

What'd be worse: City quadruple or Liverpool win the Premier League and the Champions League? I think that's a bit more pertinent.

That’s not more pertinent, that just makes the choice even easier.

All these comments from Jurgen Stropp and Big Nose Thompson about what Gary Nev said : they got it wrong.

He said it would be easier for Liverpool to win the league if they were knocked out of Europe (FACT, Rafaesque).

They turned it round and suggested Gary Nev said "Liverpool would like to be knocked out of Europe to aid their Premier League chances."

2 very different arguaments all together, and Thompson look stupid last night saying such, with his "shaving cut chin plaster"...

Even though they're horrible rats I think Liverpool winning PL just scrapes it. I don't ever want our Treble 99 success being overtaken, especially by City. Also we'd still have one more league title than the Scousers in this scenario.

City winning the lot would be much worse. I think most people from Manchester feel the same way?

City win the league. Utd win the FA cup. Pool win big ears for the 6th time. Would anyone take that over a City Quad or a Pool title win?
