Out of interest what's the longest ever thread on this website? I can see this getting a 1000+ pages by the time a deal is done.
The transfer tweets thread (before it was separated this past summer) used to hit in excess of 1400 pages

Not sure how fans can change a deeply entrenched regime who are staunch in their principles.

So because the average person can't actively change these regime's we are to sit back and not care about these issues?
There's plenty of ways people can and do assist with these issues, so to say people are doing nothing is churlish and wrong.

I'm pretty sure most on here would stand up for equal rights for women, immigrant workers, same sex couples etc.

The fact that people associated with these regime's are looking to buy the club as a way of legitimising their regime's principles is something that can't be ignored.

It will be interesting to see if any demonstrations happen within the ground on these principles should a Qatar/Saudi takeover manifest.
Where did I say this?

I can just about remember the outrage when Sky were trying to buy us. Some United fans protested, the deal didn’t go through I think for other reasons. Those fans took it as a win… few years later Roman bought Chelsea, and we ended up with the Glazers.

In the years between 99 to 2005… Real Madrid leapfrogged us as the big club in Europe.

To be fair if you're desperate for state ownership, that is weird. One thing making peace with it, but those genuinely giddy and begging for it baffle me a tad.

I wish there was a better way, but there isn't. I am not happy about the prospect of Qatari ownership, but it is what it is. I'd rather we remain at the top table of football, backed by a huge wealth fund, than fade into obscurity.

People are being way too overdramatic about this - are you throwing out everything made in China that's in your house too? They are a dodgy regime. We have no real say either way.

He says as oil money so about to win their 4th league title in 5 years
Liverpool got it right, won one league title and are nowhere after one summer of mismanagement. It’s not a great position to be in that you need the best manager in the world to compete and even then you might only win 1 title in their reign.

not really following, isn't he just referencing when City fans do it?
And what Newcastle fans just recently did. The Qatar fanboys are quite precious. This is a preview of things to come if they do take over. They already have an army on the internet ready to defend them.

Like I said, I was never talking about money with that point. So wages are irrelevant.

The player power given to Mbappe exceeds anything United have done. And like you said, it was even a problem at United.

Point is, do these guys know how to run a football club other than to throw money at it? Or do they only want big names for sportswashing purposes, almost like Woodward did, which don't work well together.
You are using 1 example to question do the Qatari's know how to run a football club.

I can use Glazers as an example saying do the American's know how to run one? They even took money out without putting money in.

I think the bottom line is, we dont know. Which is why I am worried about any owner we get, we dont know their intentions.

Okay, now do city and Newcastle.
His point doesn't apply to City and Newcastle. He's saying that Manchester United specifically have the reputation and revenues to be competitive without state ownership, not that other clubs without that can.

It won't really split the fanbase at all.

There'll be a minority group who won't like it/be conflicted but most of that group will eventually accept and live with it. There will be a tiny part of that group who will throw their toys out of the pram and follow through with threats to cease being supporters of the club. A really tiny minority of a minority. They will be irrelevant.
Hi there,

I don't wish to get in an argument but your comment is (maybe unintentionally) flippant. Please read about human rights in Qatar right now: https://www.amnesty.org/en/location/middle-east-and-north-africa/qatar/report-qatar/

Women cannot make any decisions without male guardians. If they get a divorce they lose custody of their children. It's illegal to be LGBTQ, there is censorship of media and press and the right to assemble. These are not silly issues or a case of "throwing your toys out the pram". What does it say to our ladies team that in the country their employers are from they wouldn't be able to play football or have any of their rights and freedoms they currently have? What would it say to our whole fan base that certain groups have little to no rights in Qatar?

I think a lot of fans like me would be worried about that, and it's not a small or trivial thing. I think we should all be mindful and engage in respectful discussion about them.

Agreed. I’m really glad the Glazers are finally going to feck off but I hope we spend within our means and are just run properly and without debt.

difference is there is only one group of people calling the shots in Qatar, so if we get Qatar ownership it's likely to be similarly run

to me how PSG have been run is a worry, as they seem okay with players being bigger than the manager

He's missing the point

If United had owners with their "shit in order" now, then very, very few people would be championing a takeover bid of any kind

I don't think "oil money" is the attraction - it's owners who'll allow United to fulfil their potential, which has been blocked with debt and poor ownership for the last 17 years

If Qataris take over, we will have no debt, facilities will be upgraded and there will be enough money available for transfers. I doubt that the new owners will spend more than they could legally. So yes. City's success was cheating, ours will be based on our earnings without the leeches.

And they hold true today but what about in 5 or 10 years time when all our rivals have billionaire owners and we’re languishing in 6th? These articles keep popping up and just presuming everything is going to stay the same in the future as it is now.

Really? You do realise that he's describing the possible actions of fans imitating Arab head scafs with tea towels... something both Citeh and Newcastle fans did.
Or he is just stereotyping arabs which someone like him would do. Could go both ways. But coming from a known racist I would say he is using subtle racism.

That’s because they’re trying to raise the profile of PSG and the French league. They don’t have to do that with United.

I would rather take an owner that just let us spend - I don't know - our own fecking money and invest it into the club. A far cry from what we've seen under the Glazers which can be summarised as desperation signings to get the top 4 money that can be skimmed from the top, leaving the stadium and academy to rot.

We don't need to be state-owned like these other small clubs.

You dont have to bribe players to play in England the same way players have to sacrifice aspects of their career to play in France.

Let's have our own redcafe poll now: Qatari, USA or Jim Ratcliffe. That should quieten the noise a bit.

You also have to put context into it.

Mbappe is a big big player for PSG, not just on the field but off it too because he was the face of PSG and Qatar.

To keep him in the French league, they had to do that.

With United, if we are competitive, you wouldn't need to give players that power because the PL already attracts top talents.

Exactly. You’d have to massively incentivise someone to play in France and surrender their career as a respected footballer. You don’t need to do that in England, Spain, Germany or Italy

Surely, the kind of blokes that buy Malaga & Sheffield United aren't the same level as the blokes who can afford to bid for United? The latter are the ultra-rich 1% of the 1% who aren't going to make a prestige purchase and then run it under austerity.
Al Thani (the owner of Malaga) is a member of the Qatari ruling family. Prince Abdullah (the owner of Sheffield United) is a member of the Saudi ruling family the former President of Saudi Arabia's General Sports Authority. These are exactly the type of people who are being linked with the takeover over United (Qatari bid reportedly being lead by the Emir's uncle and the former prime minister).

Look at this clown. You can already see the ex-players and domestic media establishment pushing Ratcliffe, as if their life depends on it.
It’s weird how there’s a bunch of rival fans concerned about United’s ownership all of a sudden. Where have they been the last 10 years?

Crafton is a United fan and has been very critical of the Glazers and United in recent years.

Fans who don't distance themselves from these pigs and say it clearly are plastic. It's not even a topic to discuss.

All the titles United win after such a takeover will be attributed to dictator money no matter how much we want to claim that United make money themselves.

All true supporters of Manchester United should go to Mohammed Bin Hamad's Instagram page and tell him to feck off from the club. It must be possible to achieve a coordinated coordinated posting on his Instagram account at an agreed time. It may not stop the acquisition, but it's worth a try:

There’s absolutely no doubt if Qatar took over there’s the potential for United to be dominating the Premier League again. We have a generation of fans who subscribed to glory every single season and are getting sick of it not happening, hence people welcoming Qatar with open arms.

Unlike City and Chelsea, United’s history is actually based on winning and success is part of the club tradition. However, all success was not as a result of Arab money being pumped in.

I get the argument that United don’t need a sugar daddy and Qatar would just be at the other end of the spectrum to the Glazers i.e. not taking money out the club and and actually interesting in building a football team. For United the huge spending power is already there so it wouldn’t be as contrived as City and Chelsea, I agree.

I also get the hypocrisy argument given Qatar’s money is all over the UK and it’s institutions and indeed football (obviously the World Cup).

However, I just don’t want these cnuts to own us. United are better than that. This is a club with genuine tradition and built through great football heritage. Any success that follows would be undermined.
