He has lost faith in us.. This season is turning out shit and even our only world class player isnt even pulling it.

Get him signed now or ship him out, dont want him out but this cant go on like this anymore.

I have a feeling this summer we'll see him go and it'll be a sad end to a great career with us. His form since the WC has dipped incredibly and it's now the same kinds of consistent mistakes we're seeing - he would walk into almost any team in the world and, despite his obvious ability, he has a PL winners medal, a Europa League and a couple of domestic cups for nearing a decade of service. Not what he was expecting when he joined all those years ago and he's now running down his contract.

Don't see why he should get a free pass due to previous seasons. Especially when such mistakes lead to the team either overperforming or underperforming, winning or losing, and cost us places. A better performance from him would have us in the top 4. The more important thing going forwards is the effect he has on our style of play. For years we have been vulnerable on set pieces, and had poor possession and distibution, and been forced to play a low block, and he contributes to all of that. He's been one of the common denominators over the last years of our decline, and even our biggest success the Europe League was Romero in goal. His value will start to depreciate, so better to sell at peak value before he declines any further. That he has ceased to improve, fix his weak spots, and is now declining is enough to say get rid. Add his contract situation on top and its clear as day. Let Romero have a go next season, let Hendo develop, and evaluate the Summer after. De Gea will be miserable as hell without Herrera, Mata, Rojo anyway.

Strange to lock the thread in the mains which has stats from skysports btw.

Not sure if it has been posted before his calamities leading to goals is 3 according to the times.

Which is the same as Allison.

He set stratospheric levels of performance and a few mistakes that cost us goals and suddenly people want him gone. Statistically he was bound to make some errors sometimes!

Yes he's been poorer but he's still an 8.5/10 keeper

I think this lad might have decided that he wants to leave.

How else can we explain the fact that from the best GK in the world he's barely Championship levels these days?

I remember cursing LVG for keeping him on the bench when we were negotiating a new contract with him. It appears that he had the right idea.

2012-13 was the last time Romero was a number one, he’s played one season as a first choice (Serie A) in any of the top leagues. I wouldn’t be so quick to replace De Gea with him, an excellent number two but that’s how he’s forged a career.

Also Romero errors have cost us in both cup competitions this season despite hardly playing so that’s worth remembering as well.

De Gea has been our best player for years and attributing the low block and poor distribution from the back to him is just wrong. Do you think we’re going to play a high line and be spraying the ball around with this defence and Romero in goal? We certainly didn’t win the Europa League playing like that.

He's costing us points it's been obvious for a while that if it is self doubt that constantly playing him regardless is unlikely to see him regain his form. Remember Schmeichel getting an extended break once when he felt jaded, wonder if the same thing would be the best option with De Gea.

With Herrera and Mata going it's probably causing him alot of issues, he's losing 2 close friends and with 1 year left on his deal he's probably considering all his options.

Pretty sure he's gone in the summer. Could be a fecking crazy window this.

Do Real Madrid even need him? PSG are probably the only other huge club with money that might want him.

Way more than 3 so I don't know how the Times have worked that one out.

He's made more than 3 errors leading to goals in April alone.

One thing about his game is oppo team only need 3 players to slightly press De Gea and back 4, he'll smash it hard forward and we end up losing the ball anyway.

I saw at least 2 or 3 times City did that and had expected the exact scenario when ball came to De Gea.

This aspect of his game has never improved

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

It's actually gotten slowly but surely worse over the years. When he first joined us his ability on the ball was well above average. Now it seems to be one of the worst in the league.

The same thing actually happened with VDS. When he joined us he was one of the best in the world with his distribution, but towards the end he'd dropped off quite a bit (albeit still much better than DDG is now). I know we've changed goalkeeping coach since then (a couple of times I think), but we must be doing something wrong.

Classic example of United fans this is. Greatest keeper on the world but the moment he goes through a bad spell he's completely shit on, we should drop him, he's not loyal, it's all about money, sell him etc.

Even more hilarious considering the player we are talking about. A guy that had been regarded as arguably the best in the world for seasons now. A guy who was carrying us on our back a lot of time through the worst spell the club has seen in decades. Quite easy to also forget some of the incredible saves and stuff he's done this season as well it seems. It's almost as laughable as that time United fans thought Lindegaard was a better keeper than him.

Replacing or dropping De Gea, one of the world's best goalkeepers, shouldn't even be a discussion right now among some of the stuff the club actually need to be changing and some of the players that need replacing.
He's been playing like cack since February, just how long do you give him? Any other keeper making all these mistakes would have been benched long ago.

Ole hasn't the confidence to drop a player performing way below any decent standard, never mind his own. It's not like Romero is a bad keeper to step in when he is going through such a crisis of confidence either. It's a mistake imo.

Yes but this season he's been a light 5/10.

He has flirted with other clubs for years, particularly Real Madrid. Just piss off if you don't want to be here, same goes for the rest of the cowards who show no respect for the badge.

His head is gone. I get why Ole said he wouldn't drop him but it was a bad call.

It can't just be the contract situation as he was like this for Spain too. Whatever it is though it has had a remarkable effect on him.

He's cost us top 4. Simple as that.

Embarrassing he has the cheek to ask for the ridiculous money he's demanding whilst dishing out the performances he has for the last 2 months.

Under a tree.
He can speak to clubs in January. Hard to see us not cashing in on him if hes going through a crisis of confidence, while reportedly wanting 300k p/w and having the uncertainty of him leaving for free hanging over the club.
Needs to make his mind up very soon...

Thing about De Gea is after the fumble he absolutely shits it on the follow up. He could easily have pounced on that.

He’s the most cowardly goalkeeper I think I’ve ever seen.

Has been bad for so long and still not being dropped. By sticking with De gea we lost top 4 pretty much.

He will play next week and drop it again. He is so bad currently
There’s no pressure next week so he’ll make a few worldies. All De Gea’s best work for United has always been some when we are so wank that there was no expectation.
