Don't think anybody would disagree with this.except that we shouldn't have a "decent" "8th-10th best in PL" goalkeeper if we aspire to be a top team again.
I actually liked that, take the sting out the game to kill momentum. I don't see why our players can't stay down for an extra few seconds like other teams do.On a more positive note, I did find his shithouse time-wasting collapse quite funny. Don't normally see that from Dave.
Aye.except that we shouldn't have a "decent" "8th-10th best in PL" goalkeeper if we aspire to be a top team again.
Bit how do you envisage selling him on his current wages? I struggle to think of a club that would cover his transfer fee as well as match the huge salary he’s on.Aye.
In the summer the argument was that we had bigger priorities than replacing De Gea, who would do for now. And I think that's basically proven to be correct. We did have bigger priorities, we clearly spent to the limit of what we could as is, and De Gea has done okay enough that we're still in every competition and on course for top four.
But going into this summer, he has moved up the priority list. I asked in another thread which "good" players needed to be upgraded and in terms of our starting eleven De Gea was the second most name-checked player behind Eriksen (with CF a given as our first priority). Obviously it depends on how much business we can do this summer, but I think sticking with "average" for another year is pushing it if we're generally saying he's the third biggest issue in our starting eleven.
He's out of contract in the summer, so you don't need to sell him. You just let him go the same way other players went last summer, knowing that while you're not getting a fee for him you are getting his massive wages off the books.Bit how do you envisage selling him on his current wages? I thought the club had the option of another year. If true, they’ll certainly take it. I get that you’re saying what you think they should do, rather than what they will do, but it’s exceptionally rare that a club allows a player to leave for free when they have the option of protecting some value. More so when said player is first choice. He's out of contract in the summer, so you don't need to sell him. That Licha wondertackle on Xhaka(?) when it was 2-2 -- I haven't watched back any replays but I think a more proactive 'keeper comes out and claims that. De Gea is always glued to his line.Where it's his lack of ability with the ball at his feet, his inability to come off his line or his tendency to punch the ball under zero pressure he loves inviting pressure on to us.
We shouldn't renew him at all despite the rumoured pay cut contract on the table.
Jesus Dave
PSxG per 90 - 14th out of 22 goalkeepers in the leagueI can't wait for us to get a new ball playing GK and he solves us our attacking and midfield issues immediately.
EDIT: All that "ball playing" from him, Varane, Martinez, Shaw and AWB yesterday did wonders to our build up play and 2 touches in the opposition box the majority of the first half.
If that's him coming out for it, maybe it's best that he doesn't do anything.
That really is just the epitome of pathetic goalkeeping. Get rid.
As I said, I can not wait to get some of these 10 better GKs in the league that will improve the team so much in the build up play while also do what DDG does for us on regular. Can you please suggest who are these 10 better GKs in the league?PSxG per 90 - 14th out of 22 goalkeepers in the league
Crosses per 90 - 21nd out of 22
Sweeps per 90 - 18th out of 22
His long passing is also shite (19th of 22) but let's not try and act like that's his only issue.
People saying he's the 8-10th best goalkeeper in the league are being incredibly generous.
He really should be benched for a while after this.
What exactly are you claiming he does "on regular"? Make wonder saves and follow them up with basic errors? Keep oppositions attacks alive by pushing the ball back into dangerous areas? Give possession away?As I said, I can not wait to get some of these 10 better GKs in the league that will improve the team so much in the build up play while also do what DDG does for us on regular. We all want the perfect keeper, the one who’s at the same time brilliant at shot stopping as well as claiming crosses and distribution. There are a few, but few keepers truly excel at all three.Nah, what's happened here is that he made no world class finger tip saves yesterday to gloss over his deficiencies.
A lot of people have now realised that when he doesn't make these saves to put in the YouTube reels he's really not that good overall.
He's a good goalkeeper hes just not suited to the game ETH wants to play, he's not calm enough or good enough on the ball and his passiveness and unwillingness to command his area creates chaos every time a ball is played into the box.
A goalkeeper who sweeps, claims crosses and can pass better would be a fair better fit for the team overall. We've already seen that when Henderson got his spell in there.
Ah feck. Can't believe I've been made to watch that again. Didn't even need to catch it over his head. He could have gathered the fecking thing into his chest. I wonder what Varane made of that? You can see him shielding the ball for an easy catch for his keeper. And how shit was the execution of the punch?!? Unbelievable.
And how are we supposedly playing please elaborate? How did we score the 2 goals yesterday? And what chances did we create that DDG so much handicapped us?What exactly are you claiming he does "on regular"? Make wonder saves and follow them up with basic errors? With how we play we'd pretty clearly be better off with a goalkeeper with a more rounded skillset than than (which tbf is pretty much every goalkeeper in the league), so to list 10 PL goalkeepers I'd be more comfortable with than him; Alisson, Ederson, Ramsdale, Raya, Martinez, Sanchez, Pope, Pickford, Kepa, Sa. There are more too, probably another 3 off the top of my head.
Of course it's not. How many of our players have been good enough in the last 365 days? Are we supposed to be pretending that the below is good enough?
Tbf Varane has played with Lloris for France for years so I'd say not a lot surprises him from his goalkeepers at this point.Ah feck. Can't believe I've been made to watch that again. Didn't even need to catch it over his head. He could have gathered the fecking thing into his chest. I wonder what Varane made of that? Glad I wasn't the only one who was left flabberghasted at that display of lack of confidence.what can you say?
Well I'm not sure why you're going on at me given it seems to be everyone else slating his on-ball ability whereas I've pointed out that the majority of the things he's shite at are basic expectations of a goalkeeper and have been for decades, also most of which are nothing to do with having the ball at his feet. But as you asked, we have a manager and first choice centre half pairing that traditionally play high defensive lines. EtH wants to play a possession based brand of football in the opponents half of the field, everything points to that. Due to having a goalkeeper that does not leave his line we have to play one of the deepest lines in the division, because we expect our defenders to deal with the vast majority of balls in behind themselves and crosses into the box, as such they naturally have to play deeper which in turn increases the distance between defence and midfield which generally makes for a more difficult passing game. And how are we supposedly playing please elaborate? How did we score the 2 goals yesterday? And what chances did we create that DDG so much handicapped us?
Of course it's not. How many of our players have been good enough in the last 365 days?
When did he do this? I’ve just seen the replay on Twitter and cannot for the life of me remember!Still can't believe he punched that easy, slow ball near the end. Mental.
No he hasn’t. I think people have mistaken ‘no massive errors’ = ‘top form’ not to mention that huge error he made against Everton in the cupI wouldn't blame Dave for any of the goals yesterday. He's been in top form since the first few games of the season.
This is incredible. Under no pressure at all. A simple high ball directly into his arms. A chance to claim the ball and get a break from Arsenal's onslaught. And he decides to punch it... five yards away to a Arsenal attacker.
GK is our third biggest issue:He’s going to get a new contract and survive another summer because yet again we have bigger issues than an average GK.
That's not bad distribution, that's exactly what everyone is asking him to do. AWB gets the ball with a reasonable amount of time. If he lays it inside to Varane instead of dallying on the ball, then we've played our way out of the pressure with some simple passing. People are asking for DDG to do exactly that, to have the courage to play the pass into slight but not too much pressure in order to allow us to build from the back. It's not his fault that AWB then loses possession and then to fast-forward the video for a ridiculous amount of time in order to prove that DDG was at fault for the first goal is just desperate.First Arsenal' goal started with his bad distribution under slightest pressure...
