I'm not sure if this is a compliment or an insult but what I'm seeing here is, basically, a Cleverley/Fletcher hybrid.
feck if he’s anywhere near as good as Fletcher, I’d be delighted. Man was unreal in 2009.

We will finally see the back of Lingard and Andreas, pretty confident we will get a good fee for both too

This just proves the British pressure don't know shit. The club told them we were monitoring and that's all they knew.
No one knew this. Our links with van de Beek only got stronger after Ten Hag left him out of the starting lineup yesterday. We have kept our transfer activity quiet for the most part.

Best midfield we’ve had for a while isn’t it with Bruno, Pogba, VdB, Matic and Fred.

Get Mata, Pereira and Lingard off the books ASAP.
Definitely, unpopular opinion but i would add McTominay to that list of players to ship out especially if we get Thiago.

And that was just in the last day, I think the club has made it more difficult for them lately to know much about our transfers.

I'm delighted with the player and the relatively reasonable price.

Might I add that we have a 100% success rate when it comes to signing 'vans'. Van Nistelrooy, Van Persie, Van Der Sar.

Van de Beek's gonna be great, following in the footsteps of his successful van predecessors.

Good signing, impressed me when I watched Ajax last season in the champions league, but I genuinely hope we have at least someone in mind for the right wing if not sancho.

Intelligent off-ball movement
Good decision-making
Strong in the press

Three qualities that our otherwise strong attack doesn't possess in great measure. Pogba struggles to keep it simple at times, Rashford dribbles too much, Bruno shoots too much and Martial and Rashford don't move too well off the ball.

He will be a great addition to the squad.

Probably the least important to position to strengthen, but I'm always delighted to see new players.

Remember when 40 million pounds was an obscene amount of money?

Yay a new signing! It's going to be exciting to have a young Dutch talent in the team. Get in

I think some of you might be surprised. Our midfield looks strong, but still lacks balance, and we are way too reliant on Matic.

We were linked with Van De Vaart but never materialised. Van Dijk would have been nice.

bit of depth too, if Bruno went down with an injury we're doomed. This transfer makes a ton of sense, both in terms of midfield quality and quantity.

I’d be very surprised if we brought in another MF on top of VDB.

We should be moving on to a LB and RW now.
I’m just a bit concerned that we have only one player in the squad who I’d consider a classic defensive/deep lying midfielder, and that’s Matic. But I’m probably (hopefully) a bit old-fashioned in my thinking.

With Pogba, Bruno, VDB, Matic, Fred and McT, this is our best crop of midfielders at the club since we had Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Hargreaves and Anderson. I like it a lot.
Lets remember we have a game every 3or4 days for 9 months!!! Let that sink in. We know how that intensity feels from post lockdown.

From what we learned in post lockdown games, OGS will always play 3 mf's, but alter according to weak team or big team. If we assume our best 3 is Matic, Pogba, Bruno, however, likelihood is they won't play together often due to type of opposition, injuries, rotation or form. For the first time, OGS has choices to pick bespoke midfield vis a vis his tactics and the opposition, whilst also having bench options that can maintain quality level or change tactics. Also great competition for places too.
Doesn't look like it needs Grealish either. Sad for him, but his club priced him out of a dream move.

Add Sancho for 3 from 4 up top

Dream would be a CB better than Lindelof to allow 2 from 3 centre backs and we are sorted.

I’ve heard some of the Scholes comparisons. It got me thinking about Scholesy. In many ways, Scholes had 3 distinct phases in his career. The first phase he came from deep and was very attacking (This seems to mimic VdB). In the second please he was a box-to-box complete MF. In the third phase, he was an orchestrator like Xavi, Pirlo where he dictated the tempo.

I’m not saying VdB is like Scholes, or that I’m completely bought in on the transfer, but I am curious what Ole is going for here. In a 442 with Becks, Scholes, Giggs and Keano we had 4 solid attacking players. With Pogba, Bruno and VdB we’d have 3. I personally think Ole wants more goals from midfield. If our MF starts scoring goals in parallel with our forwards, sweet Jesus.
