Surely Cavani himself might have some brain cells left in him and knows that we already have RvP/Rooney and that if he wants to be the main striker he should move to Chelsea or Arsenal?

To your left.
I go back to the original article that linked us, which said Woody wants a "superstar". Would be a pathetic rationale to spend that amount of money.
Thiago Silva is a superstar. So is Vidal and a ton of top class midfielders. You can buy a superstar in a position you need! It would indeed be a pathetic rationale.

The more I read about this Cavani nonsense, the more I get the feeling that RVP is going. However, would that change if LVG got the job?

I can't see it happening unless we lose RVP or Rooney.

Otherwise, Ed, don't be so stupid!

We would most definitely do the same thing if we actually bought him.

It's weird how this doesn't seem to go away. Surely we won't spend that amount of money in the position where we are strongest? Makes zero sense.

Hard to believe this story has any legs!

United are stuffed with forwards, so the idea of buying Cavani wouldn't even make sense if we were playing Fifa!

Lemmy has forsaken us....
Where else could you play him with Ibra playing up front? They didn't need him in the first place. They should have got a specialist winger.
I tink he said when they signed him, he was promised they'd play 4-4-2. He could definitely play a Rooney type role in a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1.

They're playing 4-3-3 now though, I think.

So stupid, hope this never happens. We have Wilson who needs to be given a chance, and as it is we are loaded in the striker department.

Didn't PSG pay 65m Euros for him? How are we going to afford him?

Makes absolutely zero sense unless Rooney or RvP are leaving.

I understand why we would want to sign a superstar but why not get one in a position we need to fill? Reus, Vidal, Kroos, Hummels, Cesc, Silva or anyone else?

Plus as far as superstar signings go Cavani is a bit crap, no? He isn't even that big a name.

This rumour started when it looked certain RVP was off. I think once van Gaal is confirmed, this will slowly fade away.

Actually, that makes sense. The reports I've read suggest we're still going ahead with setting up Moyes' transfer plans, then we'll let the new manager veto any of them he doesn't want. Obviously Moyes would've have to have been planning for life without RvP whereas another manager won't.

This Cavani nonsense doesn't make sense unless we lose 2 strikers in the summer. Arsenal and Chelsea are the 2 teams that actually need him. He will be sulking on the wing/bench again next season if he comes to United.

Got a strange feeling this ones going to happen. A striker will leave this summer. It won't be Rooney or Welbeck IMO, and I think Hernandez will leave in the summer. RVP career will be managed better and he won't play the same level of games as previous seasons.

The other option is Rooney might be told he's playing in a midfield 3.

If RVP and Hernandez left in the summer, then fine, but really, 60m for a position we don't really need to look at is crazy.
Moura on the wing is a better proposition for what we are wanting

Should go to one of the Spanish teams instead, makes far more sense. I would not like to see him at Chelsea or City, that would not be good news.

HELLO
This is just a club PR move IMO - too convenient that once Moyes gets sacked all the notable papers start referencing Cavani.

Yeah, like I said, he'll score goals for fun against rubbish teams.
And doesn't score against the big ones?

2012/2013:
  • hat trick vs Lazio
  • hat trick vs Roma
  • hat trick vs Inter
  • Goals against Parma, Inter away and Roma away
  • Scored against Juve in the Supercoppa
2011/2012:

  • hat trick vs Milan
  • two vs Fiorentina
  • goals vs Parma and Roma
  • 3 goals vs City in 2 games, goals vs Villareal and Chelsea
  • 2 vs Inter and 1 vs Juve in Coppa Italia

2010/2011:

  • Hat trick vs Juve
  • hat trick vs Lazio
  • 2 vs Roma and Parma

The notion he only scores against lower teams is the biggest load of bull. In fact his hat tricks in Serie A only came from the biggest teams. You would be hard to find a striker with a better hat trick record than him, and if he was playing the main striker at PSG I guarantee you he would be where Zlatan is now with the goals.

I stand corrected.

He's still never impressed me when I've seen him (A fair few PSG games, All his CL games, couple of Napoli games and WC2010).

Could be that he's marooned on the wing which clearly doesn't suit him in the slightest but he's never offered much in those matches, even if he's scored.

That's the thing: people are judging him on his PSG form, which is unfair because he is playing out of position. It would be like judging RvP on the left wing, although Cavani is more capable of playing on the wing I admit. His Napoli form merited the £50 million + transfer, his PSG form doesn't. Basically we should all hope that he either stays in France or moves to Spain, because if he goes to somewhere like Chelsea then they will become a ridiculously strong team.

 Do you even watch Cavani play? Jesus. You can't find a single centre forward who would be as willing to support his defence off the ball than Cavani. Even if you only have seen him play against Chelsea you would've noticed how often he was supporting Jallet.

The sooner Chelsea bid for him, the better for us.
Yes it soooo much better if one of our direct rivals get one of the best strikers in the world. He would make them almost unbeatable. Its the one area of the pitch where they are actually struggling and getting a world class striker would end their troubles. Also with the likes of Hazard, Oscar, Schurrle and Willian playing behind him, he will score goals for fun.
