Fabinho could work as a short-term fix at DM and a long-term fix at RB (as Valencia enters the end of his career period). He'd be a safer option there than TFM probably at this point, but Fosu-Mensah could get a few games there as they share the position and more time at RB, before he's fully ready to take on the holding role and the Brazilian moves to FB.
My thoughts exactly, Faqbinho would be a very shrewd buy.

That's what Ferguson thought regarding Pogba and look how that turned out.

If you don't give promising young players like this a chance, what's the point?

We'll end up spending £150m to buy TFM back in 4 years!

I wouldn't mind Fabinho here as he looks like a talented and versatile player, but if it hampers the likes of TFM (which I suspect it will) then I'm out.
There's a difference between giving a youngster a chance and relying over him over the course of a whole season. We have no other proper DM, to play him excessively will not only increase the chance for injuries, burn him out but also be risky due to the fact that he's still young with little to no experience in the role, he's going to make mistakes. He shoud play a few games here and there imo and I'm one of his biggest fans, think he can be one of the best destroyers in the game.

Can't see Monaco selling this summer if they get through to the cl proper
If they don't then possibly a late deal like martial
This. Seems the likeliest scenario that if anything happens it will happen at that point.

According to France Football, AS Monaco’s €25m plus bonuses and incentives demand for Brazilian right-back/defensive midfielder Fabinho have brought Manchester United to cool their interest in the player, but things should pick up again after Monaco’s Champions League encounter with Villarreal tonight.

It is understood that an agreement was reached between Fabinho and AS Monaco that the player would be allowed to leave after the Principality side had qualified for the Champions League.

The player remains hell-bent on a move to the Premier League and he is still expected to get that wish before the window shuts.

Manchester United remain well-positioned, Fabinho remains an absolute priority of José Mourinho, but are not the only Premier League side in the mix. One thing is certain, Monaco will only sell one if any of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Fabinho.

Been enough noise around this one, think it may have some legs.

Probably depends on Jones and Darmian leaving though. Then our only backup for RB will be TFM.

From Reddit, his wife (Rebecas Taveres) apparently just started following United on Instagram.

Fabinho as our starting RB, Darmian as backup, TFM as backup for Fellaini's position, yes please.

The fact he's so tall would go with the idea of Mourinho building a physical team here too. I'd be excited to see this happen, it would round off an already great window nicely.

I've never actually seen any reliable news on this guy to United. Yet I've seen him in multiple prospective line ups all summer. What is actually going on?

And where is Valencia?

Darmian should be back up to Shaw and Rojo binned.

To the people saying you want him, have any of you actually seen him play 1 game?

I think Di Marzio and Bouhafsi/French outlets linked us to him in the last few weeks/months. Not much from the English media though, which doesnt mean much.

Difficult to picture where he'd be in our team if we were to sign him. Valencia is on fire and we still have Darmian and TFM as backups.

There's a possibility of midfield to partner Pogba but even then there's so much competition there already in Fellaini, Herrera, Schneiderlin and Carrick. None of these guys have even been linked with an exit either, so there's no real point until we get rid of someone. Maybe a signing for next season.

None of our players need to be linked with a move anywhere. If they leave it will all happen quickly. We could easily see a few leave on deadline day.

Fabinho has been mostly playing as a CDM for Monaco, so he's versatile in that he can play there along as a RB. The problem is imo, he's not exactly much better than Darmian. He's considerably taller (which Mourinho seems to think is very important) and is technically better, but he's slower and imo more suspect defensively. In other words, he sounds like more of a stereotypical LVG type of fullback (eventhough he liked them overlapping in reality).

There's no way I can see "a few" midfielders leaving.

Fellaini's been assured that he's 100% not leaving and has been in good form. Carrick's just signed a year extension. Herrera has been talking with Mourinho about a deeper role within the team. Bastian is apparently staying (though I suspect he'll be gone in January...) That only leaves Schneiderlin really, but I'm sure he'll get opportunities in September. Just can't see us buying him to play as a DM under these circumstances.

Do not want. Valencia is doing as well as any rightback in world football atm and we have two backups in that position as it stands. Not sure I want a 30 million player come in because he is versatile and can 'stand in' as a DM.

Would feel like a ravaged anus if he comes in.

Quality player who is be happy to see joining us. I know Valencia has had a few good games, but I can't help thinking that he's just having a good run and will be back to being a decent winger who can do a job in the RB position fairly soon. Hopefully I'm wrong.

If we bring him in I see him more as a DM this season than an RB which makes me think it's very possible Schneiderlin leaves as he's barely had a look under Mourinho.
Shouldn't the Schneid get a look-in at some point as a counterpoint to Pogba though? Felli has improved under Jose...maybe Morgan would too?

I see this as a signing next year instead of now as Tony's eventual successor or midfield cover after Carrick is phased out.

Would be very happy with this.

Valencia is currently playing well, but over the course of a season I still see him as a weak spot in the team. When his confidence is knocked, he's awful.

I haven't seen much of Fabinho, but it's a player Mourinho has worked with before and clearly trusts, so I'm happy to go along with that

I don't see the pressing need to sign him. Valencia has performed very well and there still is Darmian to cover him, who is more than good enough as a backup.

Obviously like the Fonte rumours, it's not an essential transfer but it would be nice to add him to the squad, especially as he seems to bring some versatility.
