I'm just reading through the thread now. Many seem to find a way not to give bale any credit I think.
Probably because they predicted he would be a flop.
I think that is exactly it. It is no coincidence that those who continue to downplay every single thing he does are those who have consistently been putting him down since the very beginning of his career. In their heads, they don't want to be wrong.
It is funny the number of times that I have been ridiculed on here over my views on Gareth Bale (GS as well), from thinking he could play as a winger, to thinking he was better than Nani (or at least that the gap between the superior Nani and the 'kick and rush' Bale was not that big), that he was a big game player, that he could do it against small teams, that he had every right to try to emulate Ronaldo because that is the player in world football most like his playing style and that he was good enough for Real Madrid.
I think some of these people are still stuck in comedy Bale not better than Walcott or Brunt
because he doesn't get that many assists mode.
