There is almost no chance it is out in two years IMO. 2025 is the earliest I would hope for and that is very optimistic.
In two years it'll be 6 years since RDR2, which is a year longer than the gap between that game and GTAV. Not saying I think it'll be out in two years, but almost no chance is an overstatement. Then again, if they're serious about that culture change within the company and eliminating crunch, longer development times should be expected. Unless they dial back their ambition, which is something that Schreier article seems to suggest.

By the way, I can't believe it's already 4 years ago (give or take) since RDR2 launched. Where the hell has that time gone? Feels like I'm only getting old faster or something.

More interiors is a good start. Gives the whole city more life if you can actually go in the buildings.

Can you really parody florida when it's already a parody?

What can they have Florida Man do that he hasn't done already?

This, especially if there's life going on inside the buildings.

Much rather a small but dense city that you can properly explore than some vast wasteland with nothing going on for miles.

Of course that hurts the cut and paste mission design those developers live off, where half the mission time is spent driving to and from.

I think a lot of criticism with GTA missions can be made to most games, repetitive mission structures, especially true with open world games. Its usually go somewhere, kill, collect, follow, go back and sometimes all 3 on one mission... Just different characters and locations. Its true with Skyrim, fallout, GTA, assassin's creed etc etc.. what makes the genre is the world's building, I can't remember much about GTA V but the amount of things to do.. on the side, in the other games are great.

They need to play fully back in to the gangster theme. It's just perfect for GTA, but they pussy footed around it with 5 and Franklin.

Not excited for it. Rockstar's shit is all very hand-holdy. Only took me a decade of playing the games and watching this video to realise it...

Plus given the unlimited money cheat they had/have with GTA Online then that is what everything is going to be geared towards again and I have almost zero interest in that.
Still hate this video. To essentially complain about the depth of the RDR2 game world and the interaction with it is totally obscene.

But yeah, knowing how they ditched it with so much potential, and knowing they're going to do that again with the single player here is pretty annoying.

I was talking about Shadow of Mordor the other day and I remember how cool the nemesis system seemed and how that would be a great fit for a GTA game or something in that style. Imagine if you were able to build up your own gang. Start from the bottom, take on other gang leaders, work your way up the hierarchy. It seems like an obvious thing to do.

I had a great time with GTA V and am looking forward to VI. The Witcher 3 has ruined open world games for me, though. The writing and abundance of sidequests with great stories and different outcomes depending on your decisions are some of the things that make it stand out for me. I don't think it's simply enough anymore to just make a big, nice looking city, throw a bunch of NPCs, cars, and guns in it and say "do".

Unfortunately, I think GTA online has changed things and the game will be geared towards that kind of experience that we're already used to.

I hope they bring in more events like with the rdr2 rednecks that end up robbing you and leaving you for dead. I stumbled across that just roaming around, then stormed back to get revenge and it carried on, obviously knowing most people would want to kill them afterwards. It took me by surprise and was pretty stunning how effective it was.

Not sure how you could make events like that more regular while keeping them interesting but then it’s not my job to.

Too right, you need to go some way to be wrong for 2 hours and not even begin to pick up on it. YouTube video game essayists, particularly the "deliberately contrarian as a personality trait" are the worst.

Apart from SuperBunnyHop and hbomberguy of course but that goes without saying.

I do agree that there are some faults with the game. Ones that a company like Rockstar shouldn’t be making. But as a world it’s incredible. The Witcher 3 world seems on rails in comparison, and there’s not many competing with that.

Why all the criticism, I thought people were already happy with remastered HD versions? :smirk:

Is anyone actually playing it? I mean, like single person in the world? Where is that guy who was happy to pay 60 pounds for it?

I liked GTA V but one thing it really lacked was an aesthetic style.

3 was a grimy NYC stand in. 4 was a realistic grimy NYC stand in. Vice City was pure 80s porn. San Andreas was glock glock west coast gangsta culture. They stood out in their own ways.

I expect this'll be a big thing in their design approach for VI but how well it'll translate if it's set in Florida is anybody's guess.

Looks like a huge leak of an early build is all over the internet. I won’t link it but easy to find.

While there diminishing returns on graphics nowadays that does look like it could be a DLC for GTAV.

The other caveat for that is it is an early alpha build and you can see a lot of objects have no textures on them.

Still I'm surprised that it's even this far along. Maybe it'll be a 2024 release.

Just watched a few videos of the leak. Looks decent tbf. Vice City basically confirmed.

The animations and character models look impressive even at the obviously early stage.

yeah im expecting they're just place holders for now, the truck in the 2nd clip and the back of the womans head in the first clip in paticular don't look great.

I assume they'll brush up the details later

I'd imagine it's a very early build and the finished product will be a lot better

I have a sneaky feeling this will end up being co-op, as least some co-op options available as part as the main story.

I’ll be honest, I was hoping they’d move on from the dot reticle aim system. It feels 20 years old.

Am I crazy or all those videos look like new characters just plopped into GTA V? The world design looks really generic.

It’s pre pre alpha footage. It looks like there are some reused assets and hell, some of the NPCs aren’t even wearing trousers! Some are saying it’s 2019 footage so I’d imagine today the game looks miles better. I think what we take from this is not what the game looks like but more we’ve now got confirmation on locations, characters etc and also Rockstar probably HAVE to give us something now

That would be interesting. Coop would be great fun in the GTA format.
I'd say for online it's a given now. Heists were their test for cooperative play and they've been such a huge success for them they'd be mad not to carry them on.

Local coop is unlikely though. I just don't see how that could ever work in a massive OW game.

Being claimed on gtaforums that the same guy was responsible for the Uber hack and allegedly may have social engineered themselves into Rockstars GTA dev slack and just downloaded everything.

there are video files and game engine scenes with dev names in it as "authors". Whomever the hacker is, they are completely fecked. Like actual prison time.

Not convinced that is real.
How so? There’s over 90 videos and all seem like Rockstar’s style. Also confirms small details that have been rumoured before. There’s things in the background that are known from previous GTA games plus dev names in the data.

If it’s fake then the people who did it have gone to lengths to make an actual game which looks just as good. Which is… pointless. Occam’s Razor.

Is the female a Latin character? The rumour a few months back was there would be a female character with the same ethnicity. The rumour was there would be two characters, siblings.

Anyway the leaker is fecked for this surely.

Yes, the rear gives it away. The leak definitely ties up with the reports a while back that the main characters would be inspired by Bonnie and Clyde.
