Thanks to City and Real?
But you were confident two years ago that Liverpool would dominate and you were wrong, so how can we trust you now or with any future predictions? Also do you seriously think any Liverpool fan is deflated right now?I created this thread two years ago, and was at a point when Liverpool were obliterating everything around them and we’re destined to win multiple PL/ CL trophies. They’ve since fluffed their lines once again and continue to have the same number of PL titles as Leicester and Blackburn.
I really do feel this cycle is coming to an end and that Liverpool have peaked. Never again will they have the opportunity to win the Quadruple or be remembered in the same vein as the 1999/2008 United squad, or the 100 points+ PL winning City squad, or the Invincibles.
Their players are getting older and their best attackers look like they may be off to pastures new; and even if not, their contracts expire next year.
We also underestimate the mental impact of a season in which they were a week away from cleaning up, and being hailed by the media as the best team ever - to go from that to the FA Cup and Carabao Cup - both won after scoring a grand total of 0 goals after extra time. It must be absolutely deflating having one of the easiest runs to the CL finals (which included Benfica and Villarreal) and bottling it. Having the perfect storm of refereeing decisions, VAR decisions, opposition capitulations and narrow victories.
I predict them to go the same way as Pochettino’s Spurs after they lost to Liverpool in the CL. They were never the same again and unravelled until Poch was sacked a few months later.
Don’t be surprised if next season is a complete flop for them, Klopp implodes and quits in a fiery ball of teeth gnashing rage as the job and the expectations gets too big for him.
I am confident their period of “dominance” has come to an end yesterday.
Why is there an asterisk next to our 2020 title? We played 30 match weeks under normal circumstances and only 2 without fans before being confirmed champions. The league was won before Covid.Fully agree. I see a gradual decline in performance from next season. Their two best attackers in Sane and Salah will either be gone or be well-past-their-peak at the start of the new season. I sometimes feel sorry for them as they should have won at least one unasterisked PL title with the plethora of quality players in their squad.
If a tree falls down and there is no one around, does it make a sound??Why is there an asterisk next to our 2020 title? We played 30 match weeks under normal circumstances and only 2 without fans before being confirmed champions. The league was won before Covid.
Why do you think he will stop spending massively? 9 of Liverpools 10 most expensive signings ever were by Klopp. They hit their peak this year, talks of Mane leaving, Salah wanting a ridiculous extension.
You lose them two players, I don't see Jota and Diaz being able to carry the burden.
Klopp needs to get more smart signings in to keep the process going but its not like hes the type to spend massively like City.
City landing Haaland will make it even harder for the teams in the league to push them all the way again. Fair enough, City did us a favour to win the title, but is that healthy for the league. They will just spend big to replace any aging stars because money isn't an issue.
EDIT, Mane, not Sane
It’s more to do with key players leaving and being that bit older, and the mental toll of being so close to greatness but slipping at the final hurdle. But you were confident two years ago that Liverpool would dominate and you were wrong, so how can we trust you now or with any future predictions? Upon second reading there’s a lot of nonsense in your post.
We’ll challenge for trophies next season. Whether we win anything or not remains to be seen.
Exactly. For Liverpool's dominance to last, they need to dominate first.
What makes them an apparently "good team", their trophy haul would suggest that they are the definition of bottlers on the biggest of stages.it's quite amazing how such a good team might end up with just one PL, they've had three 90+ point seasons
City with Haaland will be very hard to beat now as well
I almost feel sorry for the cnuts
they've had three seasons with over 90 points in the Prem, and got to three UCL finals winning oneWhat makes them an apparently "good team", their trophy haul would suggest that they are the definition of bottlers on the biggest of stages.
Nothing says that they are of have been that good a side.
Heck Ole managed to finish above them let's not forget that!
Aye, people are fecking mental if they don't acknowledge this was a ridiculously good team.they've had three seasons with over 90 points in the Prem, and got to three UCL finals winning one
I mean come on, they're good
Except Ferguson literally created 3 amazing teams in one generation.this is the sort of team you only put together once in a generation, a bit like our 07-09 side.
That's Ferguson though who's in a completely different league to other managers.Except Ferguson literally created 3 amazing teams in one generation.
HahaSo when is this dominance due to start?
Which generation? Fergie had 2 outstanding teams, and by that I mean best in Europe level, while he was at United and they were very obviously in different generations.Except Ferguson literally created 3 amazing teams in one generation.
Klopp seemed a bit deflated too. His comment about “book your tickets for Istanbul” seemed a bit desperate. It’s more to do with key players leaving and being that bit older, and the mental toll of being so close to greatness but slipping at the final hurdle.
Either way, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool manage to pick themselves up from this. My feeling is no.
You do know what a generation is? There were 9 years between CL wins.Which generation? Fergie had 2 outstanding teams, and by that I mean best in Europe level, while he was at United and they were very obviously in different generations.
And they’ve got the points totals to show for it!! I love itAye, people are fecking mental if they don't acknowledge this was a ridiculously good team.
Also had to deal with the foreigners rule. I would put that team up against any of his later teams, allowing for modern fitness etc. Loved that team. You do know what a generation is? There were 9 years between CL wins.
I wouldn't discount the 93-95 team either. Not dominant in Europe as English teams struggled to adapt after the ban, but incredibly dominant in England.
Except Liverpool haven’t dominated anything. Their dominanceLiverpool and Citys dominace will continue as long as Klopp and Pep are around. Simple as that. Klopps success rate in the transfer market is really good so finding a replacement for Mane shouldnt be a huge problem. I can easily see Nkunku be that guy. He is similar to Mane and is ready to take the next step.
5 years in the future it will probably be City and Newcastle dominating though, maybe with PSG in the inevitable Super League.
Depends how you look at it. Its not the most successfull team this year (Real is), but they dominate pretty much every game they play though, and was really close to a quaddruple. They are really unlucky City being just as good, if not slightly better (debatable) Im sure it will be like that for a few more seasons.Except Liverpool haven’t dominated anything. Their dominance
So they’ve dominated matches, not leagues or trophies. Fair enough. Points totals show that don’t they.Depend how you look at it.
