Anyone else feel this way?

If Van Gaal sticks with what looks like his "A team" from pre season then I seriously think we are in big trouble. I'm talking about team and system that played the first half in our pre season games.

I know most of the threads on here are pretty much complaining about the same things and the more I think about it the more worried and convinced I become that this team and the set up Van Gaal is planning to use is miles off being good enough.

First of all I don't think any of our CBs or front 4 would get into Chelsea, Man City or Arsenals first 11s, they are all ahead of us in these positions. Secondly our manager is making an already average attack (in terms of top European teams) even worse with his over complicating and playing players out of position.

Of course he will not be able to stick with this exact line up the whole season as injuries etc will force him to make changes but is that what it is really going to have to take to get our best team on the pitch? Fine experiment a little in pre season but how long will he stick with this team/system in the league, how many points is Van Gaals stubbornness going to cost us until its to late and we are miles off the title and battling for fourth spot again.

If im wrong and this team does well then I will hold my hands up and applaud Van Gaal but I cant see it. I may even be jumping the gun here as we don't know for sure what his line up will be come the Spurs game, I hope he surprises and makes the obviously simple changes 90% of the fans want and can see.

Can anyone really see us challenging for the title with Blind and Jones at CB while Smalling is benched? Memphis at number 10 instead of on the wing? A captain and striker who the manager will never drop no matter what and who looks like he is close to being finished as a top player, with Hernandez as back up? Arguably our best player last season in Herrera benched just because LVG doesn't fancy him?

Maybe im wrong along so many other fans and Van Gaal is a genius.

If we fail to sign a CB, lose DDG and we do sign Cillessen then we 100% won't make top 4. I just hope United are smarter than that.

Ddg stays, worthy CB & Pedro, then we challenge.

I am worried we wont make any progress with van Gaals experiments, starting all over again.

Yes, it's incredibly worrying that we've played flat 4-4-1-1 in a pre season with Blind at CB, Memphis in #10 and caf's darling on the bench. Contrary to last season's pre-season where we've won every single match, looked incredibly fluid just to fall on our fecking faces in first 10 games gaining around half of the points we could've gathered.

Seriously, I'm far away from being LVG's ardent defender but some people really are off their shit last couple of days.

Rooney would get in Arsenal's first XI, surely. And Smalling probably would too given Wenger's tried to sign him before.

We've clearly got a better squad than last season, and the benefit of familiarity between manager and players. We'll get top 4 easily.

As long as at some point in the next month we bring in another winger, and play Depay, Mata, Herrera and Rooney in the same side I won't be overly concerned going forward.

I'm worried we'll get relegated. I wake up in cold sweats at the thought.

What teams below us have improved enough for you to fear we won't make top 4? United's problems aside, if we take the assumption that City, Arsenal and Chelsea all remain better than us (which I personally don't), what teams below us have brought in players that make you think they will finish above us?

If a quarter of a billion worth of investments over 2 years can't make top 4, we may as well pack in football all together. It would be an utter failure, but I have hope.

I bet if we didn't lose to PSG this thread wouldn't exist.
People were getting a bit carried away after the flawless pre-season last year, so maybe for the best...

Let's see what happen in the Spurs game. If we win well, people will be happy. If we win but play badly, it might be down to players settling in. If we draw or lose then people can have a moan.

Who on earth is going to knock us out of the top 4?

I can't see anyone atm. Would like to make some progress though, don't want to have to risk qualifying rounds every season. We might have to watch Liverpool. They have made some reasonable signings. The thing holding them back is their manager.

This place can be pathetic sometimes. We have made great signings, players are now more used to LvG, we are most likely not going to repeat the poor start we had last season. We performed good against top 4.

Chelsea haven't strengthened at all and have had a terrible pre season yet LVG tries a bit of tinkering and the whole world is going to end.
If United and Chelsea switched this year there would be uproar on here.
Strengthening a rival with the sale of Cech.
Signing Falco as a favour for Mendes
Low balling Everton with bids for Stones and pissing them off to such an extent they actively contact Chelsea to say he's not for sale so don't bother bidding anymore.
All 1 week before the start of the season
Anyway, for United that's 1 defeat in 2 pre season tours isn't it? Surely that shows how useless it is to read anything into them.

I am very worried as well. Because we have zero league points so far. What is LVG thinking!

No.

Liverpool are the only team with any kind of chance to break into last season's top four and while they have improved their overall squad drastically, I don't think their team is strong enough to pass us, Arsenal, or City and definitely not Chelsea. It's going to be a four-horse race for the title in my opinion and if we sign 2-3 more players then we're well within a shout of winning it.

We've improved our side a bit more than Liverpool this Summer and we were already eight points better than them last term. Now they have the Europa League to contend with too.. I think only one team has ever managed to finish higher while in the Europa League than not in it the previous season (though I do think Liverpool will finish one place higher than last term). Might seem a bit cocky, but I don't think top four is under threat. I was one of the more "I'll settle for the rebuilding and getting top four this season" kind of fans last season, but this time I think we should be aiming higher.

My money would be on us finishing at least 10 Points ahead of whichever team finishes 5th (probably Liverpool).

It's easy to underrate the players we have. Rooney and Mata would have a good shout at getting in any of the other top 4 teams (depending on managerial preferences). Smalling and Jones would also interest them.
