it actually the guy he's spitting at though isn't it? the girl gets a bit of splashback
How? He's spitting from his driver's side aiming at the other's car passenger's side which is closer to him. He can't spit through the daughter to reach the father who sits further away from her.

Neville is just looking after his own pockets. He knows he and Carragher make a good pair of pundits.
Surely he would get paid regardless and if Carragher got fired he would by default become the premier Pundit at Sky so would probably widen his pockets if anything.

I figured he must have said Lukaku made Lovren look like a 14 year old girl or something. Didn´t expect this. :wenger:

Top footballers always back themselves. Whether that's when they're signing for a club with loads of players already in their position, or spitting at a man 10 feet away on the other side of a moving car. That's what makes them top players.

By all accounts, Gary has a pretty shrewed business mind. Would almost certainly have checked this sort of tweet with sky before posting. I reckon, with his apology interview airing on sky, carragher will be suspended whilst this blows over. He’s their best regular pundit by far, him and Gary draw big numbers still, sky won’t want to let him go now.

Spitting is defined as battery under the Criminal Justice Act 1988, and can carry a prison sentence. Here’s more on the disgusting act and the penalties that come with it.

What is the punishment for spitting at someone?
Common assault carries a maximum penalty of six months in prison and/or a fine or community order.

A prison sentence is generally reserved for cases where serious injury was caused, and higher culpability is present.

The offender will have higher culpability if they have previous convictions or there are aggravating factors, such as the attack being racially motivated, the assault was premeditated, or the victim was vulnerable.

The accidental part is the key part.
It's not like he's gone up to a random kid and spat in their face. It's just a really unfortunate result of him temporarily losing the plot at some presumably super irritating goon.

Having said that, Carragher did say in his comments that he couldn't believe someone would carry on like that with his daughter in the car. So he must have been aware of her. Maybe he thought he had more accuracy in his flobbing!
To be fair even without the kid, it's still a deplorable and disgusting biological assault, which aimed inside a car is also criminal damage. Hard to see how Sky can keep him.

Swearing back or shouting abuse could be excused, spitting is awful.

Is it just mean who is more worried that some clown is filming while driving with his daughter in the car? Carragher's obviously a massive muppet, but the bloke filming is an equal div.

Cant see him getting sacked. Sky get rid of you when they want to. And they'll sweep this under the rug. Gray and Keys were vile twats for years. That wasnt a secret.
I'm with you on the bolded bit, anyway, chief. No great fan of Carragher, but wtf? Publicity seeking wankers.

So many saints on here, it was slow moving traffic as well.
Have you ever answered the phone in busy, slow moving traffic to say you're running late?
Enjoy your 6 month ban.
Its a fine and points for a reason. If its a ban then the roads would be empty.
The funny thing being Jamie will be done for the third time for a road rage incident so he could lose his licence.
Many times people underestimated cars. Until one day someone becomes a victim from seemingly not a dangerous situation. We lose more people on the road than to violent crime.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
How can you argue and make your point so much if you havnt even seen the video.
He didn’t just spit on the wing or window. The window was down, he spat through an open window into the face of a young girl.
I watched it a number of times since the post stating, "I've not watched it yet".

And, again, Carragher should be fined heavily and attend anger management classes, but I don't believe he should lose his punditry role.

Hardly controversial opinion if you're a sane human being.

If he loses his job, someone else will just hire him in a while - so what's the point? Why should Sky lose their best pundit?

Better to make some money from it (from him) give it to charity.

And make an example of him by talking about it openly and getting anger management.

That's just my opinion.

For your own sake don't even try.
Mate, you're genuinely sounding more and more hysterical on this topic.

Your views, while valid to yourself, are in the minority here. Not everyone is gonna agree with what you're saying and think that Carragher should be sacked.

He's one of the very few non ABU pundits, ironically, given his playing days, and he offers good insight into the game.

I'd like to see it though. If anything just to see Gary wind him up about it.

Which would never happen and going by Nevs commentary on sky he is more likely to blame the Utd fan.

At the end of the day he didn’t even spit at a 14 year old girl, he spat at the driver of the car who illegally had his phone out endangering his own kid. Unfortunately the wind from the moving car blew a little bit of it onto a girl and all hell breaks loose.

Media sensationalism at its best.

He’s made a rather sincere apology to both the public and the family in question admitting he is in the wrong and should be allowed to move on IMO.

He spat in someone's car at the very least just because or some light banter that wasn't even personal. That's still biological criminal damage. Then you can debate whether it was aimed to hit the driver or the girl which is a form of criminal assault. So however you look at it this can't be blown under the carpet.

YESHHHHH, We'll GOOO for it.
What was he thinking? Completely lost the plot there. Should be punished by Sky. Maybe a couple of weeks with no pay and a heavy fine for a charity organization. Punish the dad as well, putting his life, his kid's life and the other passengers lives at risk trying to film Jamie fecking Carragher. Revoke his license for a couple of weeks and let him learn a leason.

Poor girl, let her get a personal apology from Jamie Carragher. Hopefully, face to face and please God, no spitting in return.

This is every bit as bad as the thing that ended Ron Atkinson's punditry career. And that was before the Age of Instant Outrage got going. If we see Carra back in the next 5 years I'll be amazed.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
That's the thing with being a 'celeb'? What you say can be dug up for years and years?

Still posts seemingly looking to say either Carragher OR the Dad are in the wrong. They're BOTH in the wrong?

Personally, I couldn't care whether Carragher is a decent pundit or unbiased when covering United games.... you can't have certain criteria determining whether gobbing out of a window is acceptable or not - you either think it is or isn't. I think it isnt.

He said he's distraught because he's got a daughter the same age - if someone spat at her, would he accept an apology and happily move on? Doubt it.

Spitting is still an assault. It doesn’t matter who Carragher intended to spat at. He’s massively paid & with that comes a huge responsibility. He knew they were filming him, why then do something despicable in this day & age of social media?

Carragher is a muppet and he should be sacked!

Carra was absolutely teased Gary untill he had no words to counter when he got fired from Valencia. I would love to see him bants Carra about that spit in exchange. See who come off the limit first and make a first blow. Wouldn't happen thou.

It’s a technicality. You want to tell me that you’ve never done anything illegal whatsoever? Cause if you have you should be sacked.

Use your common sense man. The parent who filmed the incident is the bigger issue IMO.

Not sure how to react to all this.

Can’t get out of my head what the fuss would be like if it was Gary Neville, or any other United player/ex player.
