Lionel Messi \ Signs for PSG

This is really surpring, Barcelona were sucking up so much to him to the point of being ridiculous and selling their souls I thought they rather sell the whole squad rather than allow him to go. The last contract offer was also quite insane offering such a large deal and differing him his wages to make it seem like a paycut. He really could do whatever he wanted there but Barcelona is so screwed up this was probably the best solution from a financial perspective and long term. This is still quite a heavy blow for them as they couldn't even sell him and is just to walk away for free after sucking up so much money over the years and that without mentioning the player he is on the field and what he represents for them as a product of their academy. So yeah, it0s going to hurt but like I said it can help them long term as long as they stop overpaying all their players and giving massive contracts like candies.

Pep to Grealish
Hi Jack, thanks for choosing us, your medical went well but Messi just became a free agent so I need your wages for him. Sorry not sorry, goodbye

WOW I was lucky. I was going to buy Barcelona tickets for next may. Guess I'm going somewhere else now. Kinda sucks. I wanted to see Camp Nou.
Go anyway its still a fantastic stadium and city. There will probably still be a few decent players around...

I'm interesting in the rationale behind everyone claiming it's a ploy.

He begged them to leave last year and they refused since he was still under contract, the relationship with the club became better once the new president was elected but they were and are still in financial ruins.

They offered him a contract that was already including a paycut but La Liga regulations rejected it, now they're asking him to take an even steeper pay cut and apparently his team has said that's that.

In who's interest would it be to play a game? Even if La Liga changes their rules (which is unlikely as they're trying to look out for the state of the club better than the club themselves), Barcelona legitimately cannot afford him without bankrupting themselves completely so he'd still have to take a big paycut which he's seemingly unwilling to do and I don't blame him. He is their club

They said a contract was agreed. Between both of them.

But they couldn't afford to pay it.

No business will agree a contract they know they cannot afford to pay.

It would be more hilarious if Messi really sign with another club only to leave Barca in sink hole when they though this is a joint ploy from them and Messi to put pressure on Tebas and they still think Messi will be with them next season in the first place. C'mon Messi, make that happen!

I mean he's overvalued himself. No club running legitimate finances could or should be paying what he demands.

If the basis of him making those insane wage demands is him having similar offers from City and PSG, he's not the saint that fanbois portray him to be.

What's with the "fanboi" stuff? Are you 12 years old?

He isn't a saint. He's a normal, professional footballer. And wanting the terms he could get elsewhere is a normal thing professional footballers do.

If Barca can afford it, great. If not, they sell him for big money. What they don't do is refuse to let him go while also agreeing to contracts they can't afford, putting themselves in this mess.

None of that is Messi's problem though. Looking after Barca's interests isn't his responsibility.

It was either La Liga relaxes some of the rules or Barca pull the Messi quitting card so we'll see who swerves.

He has made his money. Barca crippled and he still tries to work out at 1mill a week. Joke

Well that's a shame, I hear Southampton are looking for a striker.

Yea Barcelona have ZERO leverage here...

The league won't be held hostage to one club, they'll get a new poster boy anyway quite soon once Mbappe goes to Madrid

Wow, if he does indeed go to another team then surely it's PSG given the obvious links.

I’d say PSG mostly likely, with Juve and Chelsea maybe having an outside chance.

I’d love us to pull something out of the bag for one season, but I think it would probably go against everything against what Ole is trying to build at the club if he just went signing players on a whim, worlds best player or not.

Previously was reported that a majority is enough to get this deal ratified, so this tweet contradicts that. What does Laliga care if Barca agree or not?

Good news for Kane? City gets Messi, pulls out of the Grealish deal and spends money on Kane instead.
