Think i'm inclined to agree; on current performance.

Given the choice between him and Fabregas I’d probably still go for the latter.

Who qualifies as a good team? Are Liverpool in the list?

I'd say prices are usually dictated by the financial landscape of the club, and also the circumstances around the transfer.

Take the Beckham deal for £25m. Bit cheap I thought.
Considering the amount of marketing cash that Becks generates yes it was cheap.

But £25M for just the player is just about right.

He's still a bit weak defensively - he let Parker dart past him (after beating Sandro) on more than a couple of occasions without even seemingly aware of the space he left free - and his ability to track runners would be picked up on a lot more often if he played for us. Makes me wonder about him in the middle at the top level but his performances against Chelsea and Arsenal are hard to argue with, and he's not really looked troubled in Europe.

Aside from that, and his lack of directness at times, he's got almost everything people want in a midfielder to improve this side.

You reckon he's weaker defensively then Scholes?

Modric should play in the hole in a 4231, he's comparable to Sneijder and Fabregas but really not anywhere as good.
I use to think that, but he's been superb in a deeper role. Plus midfielders who can play in a two are rare to find, also shows his versatility, left wing, cm and in the hole.

He was very good for Croatia in Euro 2008 playing deep but I don't think it really works at the top level (eg Spurs won at our place but they were absolutely creamed in CM). Watch what happens v Real Madrid

I'd like to see him play with a better defence behind and a better attack ahead of him. The likes of Crouch/Defoe just aren't good enough for a top team.

I've thought as much many times but he's looked a bit lost when he's played there - not influential enough in the final third, not direct enough, not enough of a goal threat, and generally not as much as an influence as he is deeper.

His games against Real Madrid might show this because I'm not sure Harry's going to stick him deep in that one.

There is a problem there in that role in the PL, because even Fabregas ends up playing with his back to goal which limits his effectiveness.

The Valencia home game this season apart if only we could get this kind of performance on a consistant basis from Anderson.

would save us a shit load of money. And Tottenham will never sell Modric to us and Modric isn't the type to force a move unlike Berba.
He was stunning in that game saw that clip a few weeks back very nice

Anyone with the usual Caf "Modric is overrated" comment yet?

I think he's a fantastic midfielder and I've also seen him play well on the wing.

Overrated! Charlie Adams has played better against us and he doesn't have anywhere near the quality around him! There you go.

Problem is it would be one of him and Anderson, with Carrick or Fletcher. Rather than a partner to bring the best out of Anderson.

He's excellent. Probably the player wilshire will go on to become. Lots of similarities.

Fabregas would be worth about 45 to 50 million. He's at torres' level not ronaldo's.

Overrated yes, still a good player and one with the talent to do Scholes' current job in the team. Most likely we'd have to pay a lot more than he's worth and its very questionable whether he's really miles better than Anderson. He better be if we're paying £20 million+ to buy him because they wont be playing together, they'd be competing for the same spot.

I dont' know how much you guys watch Modric, but he was excellent in every game I've seen him.

He has amazing energy levels too and his close control and dribbling is easily comparable to a winger, he's defensive problem that Brwnd mention was not totally his fault and it was either 'arry's tactic to deploy Modric as more of a box-to-box type and was waiting for the counter attack...

But he had some great passes, great through balls which was a hit and miss at times and he was virtually everywhere around the pitch.

He's easily United quality with our current MF players that we have...

I don't see him as having much of a defensive problem. Granted he's not flawless defensively but then that's not his position.

He's proven he's more than capable playing in a 2 man midfield on a very regular basis against the best sides in this league.

As I've said before. If we're looking for a genuine replacement for Paul Scholes then Modric is the man.

Who isnt?

He's a good passer but he lacks a cutting edge in the final third. Good in general play but rarely a match winner. He should score a lot more often because he has a pretty good shot, but right now he uses it to miss a lot.

I fully agree, if it wasn't for persistent injuries. Anyway Modric would cost the same if not more than Pastore and Sanchez and they are far better players.

Modric would be far more. You're looking at £40m there. Couldn't see Sanchez or Pastore being more than £25m.

I think Modric would be absolutely perfect here though, I really do. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

30 mil for them I reckon, but I agree he would cost more, and there's far superior players available cheaper.
