I thought he was very impressive in that press conference. Would love to see him get back on track.

“We didn’t give up, that’s a nonsense”…

Well it wasn’t Marcus. You most definitely all did give up. Elite football players don’t tend to lose games 7-0 with six goals coming in the second half because “the organisation was bad”. Would rather all players honestly just shut the feck up after games like this. No apologies, no excuses, just don’t say anything because it’s all empty words. Take your heavy criticism and bashing on the chin and respond on the pitch. That’s it.
You can perform terribly without giving up. Elite elite winner winner - can we stop with this nonsense? We are a club that challenged for the CL every year often failing. We aren’t elite whether mentally or technically whether you as a fan likes or or not. To get there it will take a few years of excellence in both management and club running (hopefully right after the Glazers feck off).

So Rashford is lying I guess and Ludens the Red knows more than him.
He was in a press conference, what should have he done, say I wont comment.

Exactly……

And I’ve already acknowledged not realising it was a press conference in previous post..

Well yeah we’re not elite in the sense of being as good as Real, City etc and challenging for major honours. But that’s not what I meant. I meant more in the sense of just being a top club. We finish in the top 6 in the PL every season, we have top class players in our squad. We are elite compared to say Crystal Palace….

Probably the most important thing for the remainder of our season, even more than Casemiro staying fit, is Rashford remaining fit.

And we need to get him back on the LW. His most dangerous trait these days is exploiting that space between the RB and CB, as well as running at the defense on the whole. Playing him at CF with his back to goal neuters his most effective way of attacking. It also makes it easier to mark him out of the game.

Pretty sure players are contractually obliged to do media and press conferences, so the idea that they just shouldn't bother showing up following a bad result is somewhat fanciful. Who actually puts much stock in what is said in press conferences anyway? It's 95% guff.

He's not a natural centre-forward. Fergie said this last week. Mourinho said this six years ago!

Rashford's play with his back to goal isnt good enough yet imo

Based on watching him in the first team these last seven years Rashford's strength is when he is facing forward to play attacking the space in behind opposition defences, destroying them with his devastating pace.
Mainly from the left.

Another goal to the list. Thought he was pretty good, but not at his best. Could have had another goal if Antony decided the pass the ball across.

Despite the presence of Casemiro, Varane and Martinez he’s becoming our talisman big time. Fantastic.

He needs a rest or something, he's been a bit off the pace at times recently. I wouldn't start him in Sevilla.

Great goal though - he's at that point where he's a threat even when not at his best.

Think once we get a top striker and threat it will help rashford even more cos the defence has another player to worry about scoring.

Top finish today. And we got to rest him a bit too

Could almost feel the rage when he put his foot through that, good goal and great composure to ball roll the defender.

I think he'll score 40 next season with another season under ETH and a likely improved team.

Love how he rolled the ball forward with his studs to get momentum and then take a touch past the defender before walloping it. Great goal.

Insane finish for his goal. Looked a bit rejuvenated tonight with his energy and pace causing them problems at times. It’s a shame he didn’t play from the left against Liverpool.

Has a pretty good chance of breaking Rooney's record.

Is on 119 goals at age 25.
Rooney's record is 253.

6 more seasons of 20 goals and he's nearly there

Great goal but don't think the rest of his play was that good. He has this habit of standing his defender up and baiting them so he can use his trickery and skip past them which is great when it works but I think he'd be better served surveying the field more and using Shaw better.

Agreed. The thing is, he's more than capable of beating players for fun but it seems his dribbling choices are sometimes less effective than someone of his ability should be able to execute. Too many flip flaps and weak subtle touches when he's already got position to stand up a defender. He just needs to knock it past and go.

It's a criticism more of the fact that we know he can offer so much more but hard to put him down too much when he is our only goal and penetrative dribbling threat.

Having said that though, he is attempting less/is being a bit more selective with his dribbling compared to years before where he would just spam it. Better coaching from ETH and probably better for his health/fitness too.

So Rashford is on 26 goals for the season now. Will he get onto the all-time top 10 goal scoring seasons for United?

Here’s the current top 10 (all competitions):
  1. Denis Law - 46 (63/64)
  2. RVN - 44 (02/03)
  3. Ronaldo - 42 (07/08)
  4. Denis Law - 39 (64/65)
  5. RVN - 36 (01/02)
  6. Rooney - 34 (11/12)
  7. Rooney - 34 (09/10)
  8. Tommy Taylor - 34 (56/57)
  9. David Herd - 33 (65/66)
  10. William Whelan - 33 (56/57)
We have at least 14 matches to go (and barring a disaster in Seville, probably at least two more), and given ETH’s reluctance to rotate, there’s a decent chance that Rashford will start all of them, if available.

If he continues his post-WC form, I think he should at least match RVN’s 36 goal haul in 2001/02. Surpassing Rooney’s best ever seasons would be a hell of an achievement.

8/16 assuming we go through after last nights performance is achievable, would see him match Rooney, which would be a great achievement.

Really puts his season into perspective when those are the only 2 with more goals scored in all competitions in Europe

Great point.

Let's be greedy. He's on 26 for the season now. If he can get 11 more (bloody difficult for sure) that's 37 in all comps surpassing Rooney's season best charts and many more, plus he will be on to 130 goals for United at the age of 25. Sky's the limit for him.

Even if he only scored 5 more goals this season, then he's on 124. So 130 more to break Rooney's record.

6*20= 120 or
8*15 = 120

If he stays relatively injury free and we have a competitive team, then he'll break it.

That's pretty impressive. Only Salah with three in 2017/18. United players with two in a season:

RvN 2001/02
Rooney 2005/06
Giggs 2006/07
Ronaldo 2006/07
Ronaldo 2007/08
RvP 2012/13
Bruno 2019/20
Bruno 2020/21

Most by United players combined in a season was 2006/07 when Giggsy & CR7 won two each and Scholesy picked one.

In total Agüero & Kane have 7, Gerrard & Ronaldo 6, Rooney & RvP 5. Out of the active players Bruno, Rashford, Sarah & Vardy all have 4.

And that concludes our "boring stats of the day" for today.
