Martial's partner gives birth and the resultant hell from two warring factions

Reminds me of the original "Le sulk"(although a lesser version!)

Yeah he's definitely shown that so far hasn't he.

Well, if you're judging them purely on what they've shown for United over the last 6 months, then yeah.

Sanchez wasn't great in competitive games last year, probably still twice as good as Martial, by virtue of actually putting in some effort.

Agree with this. Martial is a nice footballer, does some nice things. But him strolling about the pitch doing much of nothing annoyed me. At least Sanchez put in some effort as you say

Apparently Martial was our best attacker before Sanchez came. Despite not scoring for 8 games in a row as well as having 40% of his goals and assists off the bench. Not to mention that his running in behind was still atrocious.

Lukaku and Lingard were better than Martial but his cult following made sure to make him win all the online polls for player of the month. It's like when Liverpool and Arsenal win all the popularity contests on twitter, it's a rigged event.

Hopefully he takes the bulk of Martial FC with him.

I think Martial is a very good player and would have been one of my favourite players since he came BUT.... he can fcuk off and sulk at some other club with his stinking attitude. Should have used this pre season to show what he can do through the middle but instead hes acting a child. I don't even care about replacing him just get the stinker out if hes trying to force a move.

I don't care, Jose's behaviour has been despicable. Martial is an asset who the club acquired for a lot of money. Jose should have been told to manage the situation better.
Even when Martial performed the fecker couldn't get a compliment out of his mouth for the lad.

Irrespective of that, if he's on 'strike', then he should be punished. It's out of order.
Yeah fair assessment.

We should trigger his extension then send him on loan. Mourinho probably won't be here this time next year anyway.

We've had him for three years now, and he's spent at least half of that time sulking.

Whether you think his most recent 8 month sulk is a legitimate grievance or not it's not the behaviour of a player who has the desire to make it at the top level of the game.

Cut our loses, sell him abroad and reinvest the money in someone that has the desire to help this club win.

1. He doesn't fight for his position when he has competition.
2. He has no desire to take his talent to any other attacking position and try to make that his own.

He wants to be "the guy" when in reality he's nothing more than a seriously talented prospect. He's 22 years old. He's nowhere near his peak yet. However he simply wants everything his way. Ship him back to france so he can feel big.

Sanchez busts a gut even in pre-season for this team. Martial spent his tour minutes pissing around. Cya later mate, have a good career outside the PL.

Jose hasnt handled Martial well but there's no excuse for not being professional. He's getting paid good money by the club he should remain professional until the issue had been resolved.

All he seems to be doing now is proving Jose is right about his attitude.

Some people don't want to admit the cut throat nature of the game.

Giggs was destroying his own family relations while being a world class player, you need that ruthless part to your personality. You can't just take a year off in your early twenties because your breaking up and your partner is slagging you off on social media.

All he seems to be doing now is proving Jose is right about his attitude.

Pereira gets shipped out on loan every season. He's put in 200% this tour and looks to be one of our breakouts this season. The bloke goes on loan when asked, he busts a gut in pre-season, and he just keeps going.

Martial gets competition for his position and loses his number.....chucks a hissy fit, and demands a transfer. Get this guy out of the club.

This doesn't put him in a good light at all. Regardless of whether he's staying or not if I was Jose I'd fine him a week's wage and have a word. So unprofessional.

Real mixed feelings on Martial. On one hand, with the right manager who plays to his strength I think he could be a superstar. However he's quite inconsistent and his attitude is terrible sometimes. It's a risk to let him go, but unless Jose goes he won't make it here anymore. Rather he was sold abroad, but it stinks of a deal involving Willian doesn't it?

Far more than a week's wage if I were the club.
Furthermore, it will set a precedent for any future player who does this, so the club should not give in to him. Anything the club decides should be in our best interests.

In the meantime, he needs to get his ass back to work, irrespective of Jose as he doesn't pay his salary.

For all the issues about his character, Mourinho's treatment of him. If we are going to continue with three at the back, we might see the best of him IMO. He thrived in that system, when we played with a 3, in the first half of last season, until Mourinho dropped the formation.

It seemed to release him from having to either lead the line or have to track back as a winger.

Up until recently, I've been firmly on "team Martial" but I'm starting to have my doubts about him. OK, Mourinho has treated him poorly, and the idea that he should fly back to the USA just after his baby has been born is frankly ridiculous, but I don't think Martial is blameless here. His performance in the friendly game that I saw (the one against San Jose Earthquakes I think it was) was so lacklustre, and it almost seems like he just left without notice. Wasn't he in the squad list to play Milan? Add that to Jose saying he has no idea when he's back, and it's like Martial has just gone off and cut off contact with the club, which is completely unprofessional.

Compare that to Shaw, who seems to be putting in as much effort as he can to win Jose over.

Don't get me wrong, I think Martial is a quality player, but it's almost like he's completely given up on being a United player. I'm starting to wonder if his attitude is worth keeping him around.

Poor situation all round really. He's not been treated fairly by Mourinho who's never bought into him since he arrived here but Martial, instead of stepping up and proving Mourinho wrong has taken the easy way out and sulked and been unprofessional this preseason with the lack of effort and agent bullshit.

If he leaves I really do think he'll be a special player elsewhere.

Say's all you need to know about Martial. He has talent but mentally he's just not with it. Delph flew home for the birth of his daughter and was back at the England camp in days, Martial just disappears.

It's preseason, he had a chance to shine and stamp some authority on a starting position while Lukaku, Rashford et al were away. Instead of doing that, he just does a runner first chance he gets.

He is obviously using this as an opportunity to force a move out of the club and who can blame him? The situation has been handled terribly all round. If we can't get a replacement for him then he should stay and fight again just like he fought the whole of last season. Not that it guarantees anything because he was still ignored but if he sees no future for himself here then you can't get anything out of someone like this.

He featured 97 times in two season under Mourinho. Claiming he's not been treated fairly is nothing but another cheap shot at our manager.

If it's really true that he's gone AWOL it tells us everything about his commitment and desire to play for this club.

Thats an ott assessment not a fair one. No loans or anything, lad wants to go and it seems he's on strike. That's not how you deal with things. If he's indeed on strike.
Better not get started on the Jose won't be here next season part.

No idea why this gets brought up as if its fact so often, maybe because no one gets a free pass as often as Martial?

Martial was given multiple chances at the start of 16/17. The City and Watford results early in the season saw a restructuring of the team and Martial never convinced for the rest of the season.

In 17/18 it was a competition between Rashford and Martial, and Martial only won by the virtue of Rashford's form falling off a cliff. Martial was not great for multiple games in a row when starting and only showed some good performances just before Sanchez came in.

He's given up on playing for Utd it seems. On his day an excellent player, exiting talent, but I don't think he has the hunger to make it at a club like United.

Let's just sell him for a decent price, and get a fullback or right winger instead.

Who can blame him? Really?

I won't believe a single report regarding United and only listen to official sources. The meltdown from the post Liverpool interview was largely due to Journalists attributing answers to the wrong questions or ignoring the question all together and splicing together different answers to make them look like they are together.
That didn't happen.

There was one fake quote about Pereira. The rest was real.

Young players need trust and the continuity of starts to learn from the mistakes they make and apply them in game, not from the bench. There were several occasions throughout the last two seasons where Martial had come back into the team, done well and then was straight back out again. His mentality should be better but it would have been disheartening from his point of view.

I also assume his girlfriend is in Manchester? If that’s the case, then there’s no excuse for not going to Carrington for training. He should have been allowed to be there for the birth, but now looks like he’s just doing what he wants.

Real team player.

Yeah. I’ve long thought he would be our next superstar player but he’s exhausting. People can blame moruinho but he had loads of chances and some decent stats masked poor displays, and when he was dropped-unfairly or not- he responded badly. Some players just force their way back in, nothing changed with martial. He came on in games and looked like he felt bad for himself. There were rumours of his toys flying over a bloody shirt number which I gave benefit if doubt on but If you want to start for united you fly home for the birth then straight back regardless if you’ve been told you can stay in Manchester. Anybody here have a job where they could just choose how long they take for things like that? 8 days of training missed apparantly. Disgraceful. No united fan can justif that

Only argument against selling is lack of time to replace and were very light up top

Real team player.
She gave birth in Paris which is where Martial flew to.

Since when did we send players we need on leave especially young ones and not agree with them a return period. Once again, if Mourinho is complaining about this then he needs to look at himself. A return date should have been agreed and stuck to unless their were complications with the actual birth.

She gave birth in Paris, if I'm not mistaken and she lives there too iirc.

He just not have the attitude. Mbappe played right wing for France which is not his natural preferred position. He did his best and helped the team win. I’m sure when in future number 9 position opens up for France he will get his chance there. That’s how things work. Martial is no ronaldo to say he will only play LW or ST positions

I agree, a lot of it is down to the players mentality and desire to do well and put a shift in for the team.

The logic I disagree with is "lets play martial RW cos he's super talented and we have no RW". It just work.

Martial has had the hump since Zlatan took his No9 shirt.

Playing Martial RW will not benefit club or player is my point

He missed 8 days of training apparently.

If you believe his girlfriend, she had issues in labour, so a return date isn't necessarily that easy to determine.
