Yeah soon as we signed Mount I knew we were in for a wild ride with Ten Hag. It was so obvious he was not what we needed at that point.

For anyone to claim it wasn’t a bizarre signing at the time is… weird.

Yep, it is really weird and wild to think that a "Bruno - Mount - Casemiro" midfield would ever work.

If your team looks like this, Mason Mount is a massive asset:

GK
CB CB CB
--------Casemiro Bruno Shaw
Amad Mount Garnacho -----
Gyokeres
If your team looks like this, might as well not bother:

GK
CB CB CB
Dalot Casemiro Ugarte Dorgu
Mount Mainoo
Hojlund
That's not intended as a criticism of the other individuals necessarily. I think many of them are good footballers. The point is that Mount is clutch in the key moments, whether its goals or assists, and he's the enabler par-excellence, turning good football into great football and attacking play into chances and goals. But he needs the good football to already be happening. He can't drive it, can't set the tempo, can't be the difference maker. Next to an attacking spark like Amad or a tempo-setting leader like Bruno he's gold. Without them, he's just a cog in a machine which isn't working.

You might say 'this is meaningless, every footballer is better surrounded by better teammates.' But Zirkzee or Eriksen would play the same in both these teams. Their ability to add value or not add value stays about the same. There's an unusually big difference with Mount between what he can do when the football is good and what he can do when it's not.

Fixed. :)

Providing Mount can stay fit. Shaw at LB is a pipe dream. He will probably never ever be fit enough to stabilize his role in the team. Such a shame that leg break robbed him of a world class LB career.

Mount staying fit is a pipe dream unfortunately

Good work ethic and got stuck into some tackles, but his inability to sort his feet out when he's running onto a shot is inexcusable. Two good chances where he fell over as he was shooting. I wouldn't start him vs Spurs. You can't trust him to pack his boots instead of his flippers.

At least he’s trying to bust a gut to get into the box. Not many others do.

Had two decent opportunities tonight and fluffed his lines. Still prefer to see him on the pitch than Mainoo who looks completely disinterested.

Such as? Mainoo is a slow runner, but other than him, any of our 'number 10s' in this system are capable of getting into the position Mount does without falling over as they shoot. If we didn't field so many defensive players under this manager, then we'd see more of it.

Haven’t seen they doing it much. Garnacho and Amad drift wide most the time. May as well have played Amad as wing back today.

Mount needs to stay fit. If he can, by some minor miracle, manage to string a fair few months of fitness together next year, he will be a very useful player for Amorim. His energy and drive is much needed amongst that first team squad, you can see why the manager likes him.

One of the few players with high football iq at the club.

Was getting rough treatment and the ref unsurprisingly allowed Chelsea to get away with it, but came through unscathed

Must start Wednesday
Yes he fecked up a couple of chances but at least he was there to miss them and his movement was good.
Hoijlund cannot (hopefully) start the final so mason will have to do the job thought he was decent tonight

Back to invisible mode. 73.3% pass accuracy from a midfielder isnt good enough the few times he was involved

Got into very good positions today. A real shame he didn’t make more of them and silence the braindead boos.

I think he will, the manager said he brings more balance to the team and it’s obvious he rates him as a player. The problem for me is, as always with this team, when you bring a player in you add something but you take something away too. I don’t rate Mason to be as much of a goal threat or creator as Amad or Garnacho. You get better workrate/knowing when to press from him but I think we might miss the directness of Garnacho.

On the plus side, a former Chelsea player scoring the winner in a cup final against Spurs would be very funny.

I would start Mount and bring Garnacho on as an impact sub against tiring Spurs legs.

Yeah that could be the plan. I get the feeling Garnacho will throw a bit of a mood at not starting though.

Knew we’d be toothless with him in the front 3, which was essentially a one man attack, with Amad being the only one capable of posing any threat to their defence.

Not fit to wear the shirt I'm afraid. Literally we played a man down with him on the pitch

Never rated him. Injures or not.

The moment I saw him in the front 3 ahead of Garnacho I knew exactly how this was going to go.

We spent 55mn to buy white lingard from chelsea, and we can't even blame woodward for this one. This club is truly a masterpiece of incompetence.

Shame this cost us.

It's like playing 8 defensive players and having Park ji Sung as one of your wingers & Park is one of my favourite players.

You don't need Mount's characteristics when you play 8 defensive players - it's just too defensive to then play Mount as well because he isn't a goalscorer or the most creative player.

Cost us the game but it was Amorims fault.

Starting him was questionable. Turned out how most of us thought in another invisible performance.

Every fan knew this was a silly signing and yet we spanked 50 million on him and gave him 250k a week.
