Would be a fecking immense signing, really hope I’m wrong in thinking we won’t get him.

Seems like a PSG or Barcelona type signing to me.

We should have bought him after the EL final if we're being honest - that's the thing with Woodard/the board they're not switched on at all.

Why is everyone convinced he’s moving? I think he will be at Ajax for a good few years before he moves.
If De Ligt really wanted to stay at Ajax for a good few years, he would let Hulshoff handle everything and wouldn't have appointed Raiola as a specialist to facilitate/negotiate personal agreements with interested parties — that's a telltale sign in itself. Beyond leading the team to greater success (which is a noble goal in fairness), there's not much left for him to accomplish at Ajax: he's already the best centerback in the league, club captain, and their most influential centerback since Vertonghen — as an individual, leaving now makes sense because he is outgrowing the league and primed to make an impact at an elite club in a major league, with all due respect to Ajax and the Eredivisie. Similar situation to Frenkie, who has already signed for Barcelona...except De Ligt is even more polished and ready for a big move based on the consistency of his performances vis-à-vis De Jong. Also, unlike fringe players De Ligt doesn't have to worry about losing his spot for the 2020 EUROs because he's entrenched in the national team setup, and even in the worst case scenario of performing poorly at his new club, he will still start alongside Van Dijk...that's another hypothetical stumbling block out of the way.

You never know if you don't try - if we offered them good money I'm sure they would have sold him. They sold Sanchez to Spurs not long after.
Sanchez stopped showing up to training which forced Ajax's hand. And the Dutch posters will tell you that Ajax have been rejecting bids for De Ligt for a long time. Plus De Ligt is a local academy player who loves Ajax he probably wanted to stay a few seasons before leaving.

Another reason why I don't think de Ligt will joint Utd, next to all the previously named ones, is this. Who does he know, that he could get some info from regarding said club. Right, the guy playing to his left. Now skill wise de Ligt is miles ahead (although Blind certainly played a good match yesterday) but Blind was not a rubbish player during his time at Old Trafford. Yet the way he was treated at this club bothers me. He was (and still is) certainly better than all of Utd's current CB's bar one and also usable as DM or LB. And he was let go, out the back door, just like that.

You could credit above as a 'Jose problem' and not the club's fault but I feel a DoF or Ed in this case shouldve/couldve stepped in. And obviously all of this could happen at another club but his defensive partner does have a story to tell...

I know I said we should focus on RW, RB and CM before buying a CB but feck it. This guys too good pass up on.

I'm perfectly happy if we blow our entire budget this summer signing him and a RW. He's a star.

Think our problem is two fold: We need UCL qualification and also he's coveted by all of Europe's elite

What a nonsensical post.

Firstly, read these tweets
https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/bli...o-ajax-from-man-utd/z20m6pbwpdnz1d0x5zk2iwkc9

He wasn't let go out of the back door. His boyhood club made a more than acceptable bid and he was let go. It happens all the time in football. We didn't do anything backwards or wrong regarding his transfer.

Also, VDS also works at Ajax. I believe someone mentioned Stam was his youth coach? They'll definitely have positive stories of Utd to tell.

I'll pre-empt you saying about Stam's exit. Last year he cited Man Utd as a dream club. I don't think he harbours any ill will towards us.

That's a nobrainer. Pay whatever is necessary. What a player. Would sort our CB for years to come.

Money. We can offer more of it to both him and Ajax. Especially if he's our number 1 target this summer. We were happy to go the extra yard for Pogba and I think we should do it for this guy.

These tweets say nothing. He is a class guy so I would not expect him to throw dirt, especially online.

And VDS played for a different United. Yes things are looking better since Ole but nothing near SAF times.

I'm just saying, given what happened to Blind was unfair, another club might just get the edge.

What a nonsensical post.
Yeah, so much shite written about us tbh. Don't even know where to start.

Some valid stuff, of course. But a bit of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't".

Also, no one really has any clue what's happening behind the scenes....who we're interested in, who we're not etc. and I am sure the elite of Europe, including us, are all aware of De Ligt. And he's seemingly that good, that I'm guessing most of Europe's elite would find a starting spot for him in their XI. So in the end it is probably going to boil down to money and personal preference (De Ligt).

Let's hope we're in with a shout.

He’s probably the biggest defensive talent I’ve ever seen. I’m sure he’ll become as good as Van Dijk. I really really really hope we get him regardless of price. I don’t care if he costs £150m.

Whoever gets him, no matter the price, will be getting a bargain in the long run. A massive talent.

Let’s just hope Van der Sar can convince him to join us. Him, Lindelöf and Bailly should be good enough to win the biggest titles, at least in a few years.

I think he wants to win the league with them but i also think he wants leave the Eredivisie pretty soon. He stated that he doesnt get tired in a CL game but gets tired in a Eredivisie game after 60 minutes. Not because he runs more but because he misses that adrenaline. The Eredivisie is really bad these days and way too easy for de Ligt. He knows it too, i dont think he will stay at Ajax for multiple seasons.

If Ajax wins the league he might leave this summer. I doubt Ajax will actually win the CL so if he wins the league and cup he basically achieved it all at Ajax.

As much as I wish this was true, I think you're wrong. He will leave Ajax in the summer for sure. I hope he will win the Eredivisie with Ajax this season, but he's just too good to stay at Ajax. All the big clubs are after him, so now it's up to him to pick one and it's up to that club to bring a big bag of money to Amsterdam.

The way he's going there's no way United will stand a chance of signing him. If it became common knowledge that Ajax are willing to sell, most of Europe's elite clubs would be interested. Can't see United or Liverpool getting in ahead of Barca, Real or Juve. The chance to sign him would surely have been earlier when he was just starting out.

To play devil's advocate, he hasn't been faultless to the extent that one can call the Eredivisie 'too easy' for De Ligt. I reckon he should stay next season at Ajax as well and then make a move in 2020.

I don’t think Barca can affort him. They’re already spending too much of their revenue on wages so they’ll have to be a bit smart with their spendings. Suarez is deteriorating quickly and Coutinho has failed so they’ll want to strengthen in attack. Also, they just signed Frenkie De Jong from Ajax for €75 + 11 million. They have Umtiti who is a very good center back so I can’t see them spending roughly £100 million on another center back.

Real have Ramos and Varane and they’re also looking to strengthen other positions. They’re also a «sinking ship», but that might be very temporary though.

Why would he want to join Juve ahead of United? They’re perhaps a better team, but a smaller club with less financial strength. I’m not so sure they can affort paying 100 million for a center back either. Considering how Pogba left Juve for United, I don’t see how there’s «no way» Juve will snatch him ahead of United.

I think it’s mostly between Barca, PSG, City and United. I also think the four have around the same chance of signing him. I’m not so sure Barca and PSG are prepared to spend what it takes to get him though, so it might be between City and United.

I can’t see him going to Liverpool. I doubt they can affort him, and they already have Gomez. Also, they need to strengthen their midfield and their depth in attack. Origi isn’t good enough.

He shares an agent with, well, Pogba... it’s pretty obvious he might get all the info from him and then some.

We are well known as a team which allows Raiola to earn commissions - so a fat guy may be not at all against the transfer. And if we manage to lure de Ligt, it is also a 100% guarantee that Pogba will also renew

I have no doubt Blind might tell some negative stories about Mourinho but I doubt he would down play the United experience. The fans, the atmosphere, the facilities. I don't think he was particularly mistreated by the club but he was a utility player and Mourinho doesn't seem to like that much.

The upturn in form, previously unhappy players extending contracts should all be clear signs to DeLigt that things are on the up.

Blind wasn't treated unfairly, he's simply not good enough. He played a brilliant match yesterday. He's also had some complete 'mares this season against clubs like Heracles Almelo. He's good on the ball and reads the play well, but he's not a world class CB. These one of CL matches can really skew the views of people who don't watch our league regularly and I can't imagine most people from abroad do watch our league, because it's rather shite.

Blind is a classy guy and when the team is clicking, everything he does is class as well. However, he does everything too slow to be consistently good at the top level.

Under Ole we have a chance, but we need to keep up this good momentum for the top players to believe we are the right team to join.

He and Blind compliment each other really well. He's the destroyer while Blind covers. Lindelof could do the same for us, but it's a shame he's right sided.

You aren't really trustworthy as a Feyenoord supporter, are you? Blind is a very good player, even when he played for us. Ajax just plays in a completely different style than us.

He is not better than Lindelof on the ball?
