It doesn't really matter at this stage, does it? Lampard certainly has a comical look to it, but there isn't much to be gained this season so whether it's Lampard or the world's best tactician they're going to struggle to win the CL with this team and there isn't much going on in the league.
I thought it might be good to get the permanent manager in to assess the squad and start building a way of playing, but there's something to be said for a clean slate in the summer as well.
The big winner is Lampard as he gets a golden chance to restore his reputation if he can get some talented players heading in the right direction. If he doesn't do that, well...that's the status quo and his reputation is low anyway.
Yeah well, about that. About half the Chelsea squad was there when he last managed them, getting sacked halfway into his second season because they were playing some really shit football and not getting results. Reece James, Thiago Silva, Kante, Kovacic, Havertz, Pulisic, Ziyech etc etc. They watched a team that had never been great under him turn from mostly pretty good to very bad, and then they were part of things when Tuchel came in and immediately turned them back into a better team than they ever were under Lampard.
What are those guys thinking now? Are they thinking "Frank's back, now things will be better"? Are they keen to help restore Lampard's reputation, and maybe see him get the job permanently?
