Is there word on what's going on at other matches? Heightened security?
Most likely it's the bomb squad that is referred to as military.Could it be that they apprehended the suspect at the same time? and they want the pro to handle it? Military on an empty stadium is abit weird. What's the SOP on calling military on this case?

Our fans seem to be handling it well
Just saw on Twitter it could be played behind closed doors as early as tomorrow. It could be played on the same week as champions league final.
Yeah, I'm really hoping this is some kind of hoax designed to improve security or something. Long shot though.Hope this just turns out to be something completely obscure , in that someone for some reason taped a phone to the pipes , maybe for a joke or something to wind up a mate
Good to see you're safe. On TV, everybody looked very calm.
What?Saying two explosive devices now
Wahey! The only thing that will be tighter than security at Wembley will probably be DDG in goal!
Sadly, none of what you say here is true.I am not an expert on bombs, but for any IED, you would need to have shit loads of explosive to have any sort of major impact..
and such loads cannot be brought into the stadium and be in packages. am I being stupid here??
The Met 100% have their own expo teams. My brother worked in bomb disposal for the British Army, based out of RAF Northolt he covered London & South East of England, the police don't have their own bomb disposal. If something looks really suspect they call the army in who will usually do a controlled explosion if they agree it is really suspect.
When my brother was doing it they would regularly be called into London to handle bomb scenarios, this was about 10-15 yrs ago thoughThe Met 100% have their own expo teams.
Dunno, if they managed to get a copy of old trafford autocad drawings then not difficult to figure it out.If it's an actual attempt at killing people, which currently I find doubtful (thankfully), then it's an incredibly intricate attempt. How do they know there are gas pipes there? Really strange.
May have changed but they're definitely in house for most jobs now. When my brother was doing it they would regularly be called into London to handle bomb scenarios, this was about 10-15 yrs ago though

Most likely it's the bomb squad that is referred to as military.
If not, then they'll be helping the police outside to keep order.
Nothing to read into.
What was the wording of the announcement?Just got home... Crazy afternoon. Feel for the Bournemouth fans and those that came from afar, 4 hours for me is nothing in comparison! Right call to call it off of course... Can't take chances with this sort of stuff.
Feck knows why Daniel Taylor is saying the club only told supporters at 3:20... We were told at about 3 it was abandoned.
No they don't, they use Royal Ordnance teams from Chelsea barracks. The Met 100% have their own expo teams.
I think they mean connected to an actual pipe with the intention of using the gas flowing through it to magnify the explosionWhen it says it's attached to a pipe, do they not just mean a pipe bomb? As opposed to it being hooked up to Old Traffird's actual gas pipe?
Really, you don't have bomb squads in the Police?Exactly. I can't understand why Collymore was getting such a kicking in here. Bomb Squad are military, the Police don't possess such expertise.
It must be. Why else would we have a controlled explosion?So...was it an actual bomb?
Could have simply been precautionary. It must be. Why else would we have a controlled explosion?
Just the tannoy lady saying the match has been abandoned and to make our way away from the groundWhat was the wording of the announcement?
I was thinking that the pipe is the bomb and the phone detonates it? Not that they'd attached a bomb to the existing piping. If it's an actual attempt at killing people, which currently I find doubtful (thankfully), then it's an incredibly intricate attempt. How do they know there are gas pipes there? Really strange.
Because its better to do it and find out its not than not do it and find out it is.It must be. Why else would we have a controlled explosion?
For at least the past 3-4 years they are police officers or staff but I cannot say any more.No they don't, they use Royal Ordnance teams from Chelsea barracks.
Fair enough. Still should've done better considering they search everyone. Jacket off, that gets searched, then a full pat down.It would only have been assembled once inside though.
