He has literally only shown up and performed when Pep's machine is well oiled, when everything is working perfectly as it should and there is a core group of other world class players setting the foundations.
I don't think it's any coincidence that he's been poor this season when City have struggled and that he's never shown up in an England shirt either where things are also more dysfunctional.
To me he's quickly coming across as the type of player that is a brilliant secondary piece of an already successful side but will never be the main man. Truly elite attacking players are capable of creating their own magic when things aren't going perfectly and I've just never seen him conjure up those moments when the chips are down like Jude, Palmer, Saka etc have. He plays only on the level of the rest of the team's at in matches and is never able to rise above it.
