14 clean sheets in 22 is impressive. Played well this season when fit, bar the odd moment.

I thought he was excellent, wasn't showing any signs that he hadn't played for a while. If he can stay clear of injury the need for another centre back isn't so important.

I didn’t think he was very good today and against a better side we’d of been punished.

Wilson had it a bit easy.

Been there, done that forever. Most accept his talent, but it has become an issue that the way his fitness be, he's stagnated thus unable to go to the next level by ironing out his mistake with experience. A good CB with plenty great performance but error prone and unreliable for selection.

Edit: Not saying he should be sold. Just that if a quality CB available, then just go for it and don't just let "if Jones" be in the way, and regret later. He can be squad player if he's Okay to stay. Buying homegrown player is costly nowadays. What we paid for him is now considered cheap.

I’ve accepted the fact that he’ll most likely never fulfill his potential. However, with that said:

  • He’s still young for a defender, and is homegrown.
  • He’s not on a lot of money, and we are not likely to receive a lot of money for him given his injury record.
  • When he’s fit, he’s generally good to excellent.
So, if he accepts being a back up, doesn’t make a fuss then there’s no need to sell him. We play on average at least 60 games a season, so there’ll be some points in which he can play a part.

Just accept the fact that he will not be first choice and a lot of the disappointment will go away, kinda like with Wes Brown. Come to think of it, Smalling-Jones can be the new O’Shea - Brown.

I don't think he was good last night, seemed like everything he did was last ditch and barely hanging on. I hope he doesn't start against Kane, after his last Wembley fiasco.

Yeah would go with Smalling and Bailly. Jones was very poor against Kane last time we played Spurs.

This game he was good though, he might have done few last ditch tackles but those are not because of his mistakes. Bournemouth attacked well and he did well to block few shots and stop few attacks.

He didn't look very assuring to me, but maybe I'm too harsh on him. I'm still bitter fro that performance against Kane.

He is so so clumsy. Again had his classic moment after corner when he slipped and then nearly made a penalty. And again had panic moments when he can play the ball to de gea or other player but in full panic mode he kicks the ball out of play. All those small things were unpunished today but against spurs where every ball is important it could be crucial.
I am sorry but he is not united quality. I hope that we will sell him. Don't trust him at all.

We all love United
How much wages is he on? Around 60-80k per week? I think he's good enough to be a really good squad player and if he isn't taking a massive chunk of the club's wages, then he can stay and come in play the games like he did yesterday. Also Phil Jones should be a starter in the world cup for England in my opinion

I think Bailly will start ahead of him but with Mourinho you never know. I think Jones did well last night but i agree with you, a lot his challenges were last ditch and recovery ones and you can't depend on that against better opposition.

By far our best centre back when he has had a run of games .Still fairly young. Good mix of toughness and technical ability. Rojo to be sold for me, think lindelof will get a stay of execution as it's his first season .Would love to see Jones and alderwiereld next year

Play him at rightback on Saturday - as someone alluded to a few posts up, he should be a Wes Brown type utility man; that’s a position he could hold down long term IMO, and negate the need to buy another right back until Laird or O’Connor mature.

Are you not tired of United playing auxiliary fullbacks?

Why use a tool that's always broken - for fixing things that breaks? Doesn't seem like that great of an idea

He was sensational today and had Kane in his pocket

Beast today, especially after the first 25 mins when the midfield started to do their job, some big defensive moments.

My wallpaper is still that Giroud crumbling to head it incident.

Such an excellent player when fit, really like how he gets underrated by some too.

Don't know if Bailly/Rojo are perhaps injured, but I think it's very telling that a defensive specialist like Mourinho picks him and Smalling in one of the most important games.

Thought he was very good today, so well done.

Hopefully this will raise his price since we can't go into another season with him as our first choice considering he is the most unreliable player we had during these last couple of years.

Why don't people rate him? I understand he is not Beckenbauer but I certainly haven't imagined his many top class performances.
