Very unlucky, don't blame him for staying, just strikingly obvious bad business at the time.

It's not his to give, the club can just take it off him. Which they would have, if Varane really cared about it. And that's assuming the reports were true, which they likely weren't.Nothing outlandish mate. It was fairly widely reported he wouldn’t give Varane the 4 shirt when he signed.
You dont think the club can just take the number? He could have at least given back the 4 shirt. It's a small gesture and might seem insignificant but it doesn't speak well to his character for me.
It'll be free next season when his pointless 2019 contract finally runs out.
We can but that's not how they do things. He was asked to give it up for Varane and he refused. You dont think the club can just take the number?
According to the Daily Mail, yesWe can but that's not how they do things. He was asked to give it up for Varane and he refused.
Our number 4 shirt is a cursed number for decades now. Bullet dodged there. Varane is already injury prone. Wearing 4 may as well turn him into the French Phil Jones. We can but that's not how they do things. He was asked to give it up for Varane and he refused.
Who cares.Nothing outlandish mate. It was fairly widely reported he wouldn’t give Varane the 4 shirt when he signed.
Tell that to Cavani and MartialWe can but that's not how they do things. He was asked to give it up for Varane and he refused.
Willian's got the desire to find his happiness by playing for Gremio and fight back from adversity didn't he. Phil didn't take up the loan to a French club last season. Would have still pocketed his United wages and doing some actual work. The fairly obvious difference being that Willian is still starting for a Premier League club. Jones doesn’t have that luxury.
Yes, in the knowledge that his body was fine and wasn’t going to breakdown. I don’t really care about defending Phil Jones, but your example only works if Willian was a complete crock too.Willian's got the desire to find his happiness by playing for Gremio and fight back from adversity didn't he. That's the obvious difference.
Very weird indeed.People find the weirdest juastfications to be mad with Jones. Career derailed by injurues, reduced to a meme, abused while out with his kids? Well I would sympathise but I've chosen to believe this tabloid story about him refusing to give up his shirt number/he didn't do like a perfectly fit player in a completely different situation/didn't just give up his last big paycheck.
Oh yeah come to Bordeaux, in league 2, where you will be backup to our centre backs. Meanwhile there’s a new coach coming in to old Trafford who will look at everyone. I can see why he was dying to go.I had some sympathy / respect for Jones up to a certain point but when he turned down that 6 month loan move to Bordeaux that all went away. Just pathetic really.

Highest quality? The only thing that stopped Jones playing far more games than Lindelof was being able to stay fit and uninjured. He has more defensive ability and strength in one snapped tendon than Lindelof has in his whole bodyThey were Ligue 1 when the offer came through.
And so what if it was a back up offer (I'm not sure if it was really) - it's hardly like he was playing week in week out here.
And new coach? Rangnick came in October. The offer came in towards the end of Jan.
It's just weak minded and weak willed from Jones (and yes it is pathetic really). I find it hard to square your defence for Jones considering your criticism of Lindelof - a player that's far more available for United and has much higher quality.
I said higher quality, not highest. And yes it’s all well and good saying if he wasn’t injured but that’s the whole bloody point with Phil Jones.Highest quality? Maybe he didn’t want to move abroad? Players don’t go in to hibernation and wake up just to play. He has family, friends, and a life, already in place. Moving to another country, even if temporarily, isn’t a decision you take lightly. Especially for a player that’s hardly played a game for years and is essentially going through constant rehabilitation. I don’t blame him one bit for not going. They were Ligue 1 when the offer came through.

I’d argue that it shows belief that he thought he’d get a chance to prove himself at United and not sit in a French bench. I’d say that’s strong willed.I said higher quality, not highest. And yes it’s all well and good saying if he wasn’t injured but that’s the whole bloody point with Phil Jones.
Back to the original point - it's just an unambitious mentality from Jones, and comes across as pathetic and weak willed.
Really? I think that's massively hopeful of you to believe that considering the amount of games he's played (the game where Rangnick had him starting against Wolves I think was his first appearance for 18 months). The guy has not a run of consistent game time since Mourinho's first season which says it all.I’d argue that it shows belief that he thought he’d get a chance to prove himself at United and not sit in a French bench. I’d say that’s strong willed.
anyway, why does it annoy you so much? He will clearly be released in the summer and good luck to him. Let’s not forget all of those injuries came from United, it’s not that he’s faking them

Rangnick was still a new boss to impress, no?
re the loan, there were tweets at the time from the club saying he’d backup their 2 CBs
Why would he go from the bench at United to the bench of a struggling French club?
Yeah but players who value their careers do it all the time. United got Sabitzer to move to another country for just 5 months in less than 24 hours.Maybe he didn’t want to move abroad? Where he knew that he was coming to playYeah but players who value their careers do it all the time. United got Sabitzer to move to another country for just 5 months in less than 24 hours.
He's fit though and will expect to play. Jones would be injured within days probably and then just facing same rehab except abroad with worse facilities. Don't blame him.Yeah but players who value their careers do it all the time. United got Sabitzer to move to another country for just 5 months in less than 24 hours.
Surely being back up to 2 CBs has a higher chance of playing time than 6th CB here? We had Maguire, Varane, Lindelof, Bailly, and Tuanzebe on our books at the time of the offer.Where he knew that he was coming to play
it was on Twitter at the time, the coach of Bordeaux saying that he would be backup to their 2 CBs. Don’t blame him for not wanting to swap out bench for theirs
Wasn't Bordeaux like the worst defensive team in Ligue 1 last season? He wouldn't have a problem playing if he stayed fit as he did for the 2nd half of last season. He could've tried to resurrect his career last year if he really wanted.Where he knew that he was coming to play

It's no laughing matter. I hope GB gets the help he sorely needs very soon
Your obsession with Lindelof and your vigour defense of Jones is pretty funny to be fair.
I love that he spends half of time here attacking anyone who dares says something bad about Jones, and spends the remaining half talking shit about Lindelof. It's no laughing matter. I hope GB gets the help he sorely needs very soon
ThisNot his fault but the club are really incompetent to give him a new contract, type of move that should get the decision maker sacked.
I love that he spends half of time here attacking anyone who dares says something bad about Jones, and spends the remaining half talking shit about Lindelof.
The only explanation is that he is Jones mum, and Lindelof once shat on his handbag.
Typical Lindelof, couldn’t even aim straight to shit in geebs’ handbag!I love that he spends half of time here attacking anyone who dares says something bad about Jones, and spends the remaining half talking shit about Lindelof.

It should have been 0+0Blame Woodward and Judge for him still being here. Him getting 4+1 year deal in 2019 was one of the worst decisions the cIub has made. It should have been 2+1 really.
But he's finished and knows it.Yeah but players who value their careers do it all the time. United got Sabitzer to move to another country for just 5 months in less than 24 hours.
No what I dislike is people giving over the top abuse to a player who injured himself very badly many times in the defence of United. His skills or his desire were not in question.I love that he spends half of time here attacking anyone who dares says something bad about Jones, and spends the remaining half talking shit about Lindelof.
