Can we as United fans please commit to defending him (as a low bar) in his first year regardless of performace as he adapts? And not get swept up with naysayers who are rival fans or news outlets trying to sell clicks?
Moaners are having a mare already: we overpaid again, he only scored nine goals, should have gotten Kane, why not get Toney or Mitrovic.

Just defend him on here and counter them with humor and logic.

In the last 10 years, the only player we've managed to recoup any kind of decent money on was Lukaku and that was because he wanted to leave. We'd never be able to sell the likes of Sancho, Martial, Maguire etc for anywhere near the fee we paid for them, and in a world where we could, we simply don't want to sell them to a rival anyway.
The club got a decent fee back for Di Maria as well as Lukaku.

I hope, probably against hope, that we are patient with the lad. He's had a big build up by the media as all United signings do and there is only one reason for that. They, the Media, want him to go the way of Lukaku, Maguire, Pogba as the most expensive flops. Sancho and Antony have been in their crosshairs for a while. All this crap of Hojlund v Haaland should be ignored. Haaland has more top class experience than Hojlund. If he gets 15-20 goals this season, he will have done well. I reckon he will help the others to get more goals by taking the attention away from the likes of Rashford, Bruno, Garnacho and co. Looking forward to watching him.
Be patient with our hopes but expecting 20 goals?!
That would be one of the greatest youngster seasons the league has ever seen.

Being patient would mean accepting that he's not ready to be a full time starter for a top 5 club just yet and give him a season as backup without any goal expectations.

Has any players ever failed a medical?

Especially a big purchase like EPL level?
Aly Cissokho's move to Milan was cancelled due to some teeth issues. Although he himself said later that "Milan said there was some kind of problem with my body, which was linked to my teeth! But it was just an excuse because I completed my medical in two hours, with no problems. I even signed Milan's contract and all that remained was for Milan's president to send the money to Porto's president."

Yes and as a result Chelsea have sold the two best players in the premier league. Possibly the leagues best ever right winger and the leagues best ever number 10. Chelsea are the opposite of a club we should be trying to copy, I’d much rather give our players support and a proper chance.
I not saying either policy/club is right, I was just saying why Chelsea tend to get better fees than us. They get rid before a player looks really bad like Maguire/Donny and massively lowers their value. We're too slow, Chelsea are too quick to judge. City have probably been more balanced than both but I don't like their policy of selling their kids and not bringing enough of them through.

I would also note Mkhytarian (bought for €42m, sold for €34m), Blind (bought for €17.5m sold for €16m) and Dan James obviously (bought for €17.8m, sold for €29m) as examples of players whose value held up relatively well over a few years.

But regardless of how much we got for any individual player, it's more than we would have got for them at an older age point with all else being equal. Which is what matters relative to @Hoof The Ball's initial point about Hojlund's future value holding up better due to his relative age.

What’s his combination play like? Can he keep a chain going or is it more likely to die at his feet?

Has he shown intuitive traits with off the ball contributions to the build up I.e. cross-threading CB’s with decoy runs or intentionally serving as the distraction for others to make the decisive action?

Of the players we have here, who is he most likely to hit it off with in terms of style of play and preferences? I.e. Martial loves playing with Rashford; Haaland love playing with De Bruyne (duh!) and so on and so forth.

Does he have the game smarts to be a thorn in the opposition’s side with his movement?

Watched the vids, but they are very short snippets of the final action of plays rather than an unfolding of the whole build up; hoping this kid is fluid and eclectic in his play and able to usher in another era of multi-positional attacking. It would also be great if he’s a natural fit with Rashford’s game as very few have been and it’ll be a lot of growing pains if they’re getting in each other’s way rather than having that kind of intrinsic bond that is the foundation of the best attacks.

This is what I can’t get my head around. I like the look of him from the clips I’ve seen and agree massively with the post @bosnian_red made. But feck, it just seems mad that the biggest club in Danish football sold him for peanuts two years ago with him barely scoring a goal. And two years later he’s now the biggest prospect in Danish football and is moving to man United for the best part of 70 million. It’s actually insane. This kinda doesn’t really happen. You always kinda see these players coming and see their path. With him you’re just sat there thinking “what”..

When Højlund was at FC Copenhagen, he always could find the right position to score, but he missed every chance. He actually did not score a single goal in the domestic league. But in the Confrence League he scored 5 goals in 10 games. That's why it was a little confusing to follow him the first time. You could see that there was a talent. But he seemed to be a poor finisher. But that changed almost the moment he switched clubs to Sturm Graz.

It was a bit of a strange situation and I don't know if he just had to get used to being a senior player and FC Copenhagen lost patience too quickly. At the same time, there was good competition for the striker places in FC Copenhagen. So if Højlund did not succeed immediately, he could not count on playing. Especially not as a young talent who had yet to prove anything at senior level.

His development over the past year has been explosive and I hope it hasn't gone too fast for him. Because it is clear that there is great potential.

In general can we be gentle? Young player, full of hopes and dreams. He will have good and not so good moments for sure. Welcome, lad.

I wonder what’s dragging on. Press/commercial stuff for the announcement?

Chelsea have lost a shed load of players on a free due to not selling them when they could/should have.

Did you not follow the Onana transfer? He'll be having his testimonial before our PR team announce we've signed him.

Yeah. But that doesn’t explain why it’s taking so long. We used to announce signings almost immediately.

You’re not familiar with Bakayoko and Batshuyai?

I think they decide to do just one announcement when everything is done and completed.

I watched a lot of his footages as in clips with all his touches in many games. I can see why Ten Hag wanted him but he's currently very raw and folks with wildly high expectations would have to tamper them not to be disappointed.

He has all the attributes Ten Hag wants specifically and flash potential of being great. He's big, can back his defender, presses like a mad man and runs into the channels. However right now he's still very raw, his touch is very inconsistent which means he doesn't yet maximize his strength when he's receiving the ball with a defender on his back. It lead to loose touches at times.

His final ball isn't quite there yet. You can see he gets in good situations but doesn't quite have the final ball in him. But watching him I totally understand why Ten Hag wants him given the profile of player he's been looking for striker since he's been here at United. Kid has got that Wout work rate and he potentially can be great in his hold up play if his touch becomes less inconsistent.

Folks will have to be patient with him during this season. I can already imagine how and what will frustrate people with him after extensively watching his clips(not highlight but clips covering all his in game touches and movements). But the profile of player he is and the flash of potential he's shown are too great and understandably Ten Hag wouldn't pass on them. But he's quite raw so I'd advice patience and adjusted expectations for this season.

Also seeing the type of defense played on him, I see no problem with him adapting to the PL. He get roughed quite often with defenders stuck to him when he receives the ball. He can handle any physicality from what I've watched.
Great post. He will need time to put the tools together.

Exactly. We've done plenty of those "agreement reached with the selling club, more information in due course" thingies in the past, the current style makes much more sense.

I can imagine United HQ preparing posters, tweets, club statement on official website as well as an email to be sent to journalists. They are ready.

Just need NYSE to open......

Yeah that sounds right.

I hope his finishing is more clinical than his skin care routine.
Man Utd nutrition specialists will do wonders.
