@Ecstatic yeah I know his career, but he played both as DM and CB. In his time at Barca he was almost exclusively in midfield. I fail to remember a game where he played as a CB. He was in midfield in the WC and in the Euros as well at that time.

It's always a debate from what I've came across when comparing them both as they are pretty similar players(who couldn't work together at the back), but the former geezer at the time was spoken as one of the best liberos in Europe and one of the best CB's in a Catenaccio oriented football(not like there was shortage of quality defenders) in the early/end 80's. His reputation took a big hit after the WC and was pretty much done afterwards.

Yeah as I said he was alternating in his position, but wonder if people rate him more earlier in his career there or when at Galatasaray.

Ah no, different geezer. In any case, I picked him for this specific role with freedom and moving up into midfield, wouldn't have gone for him as a pure CB in a pair.

Aye, I was just about to go out when I posted that and completely overlooked Zoff. I thought he'd have to break up the Keane/Tardelli midfield, which would have been utterly shite for Aldo and fantastic for whoever draws him in the first round.

Fair dos, I only know him vaguely by name as most of the bits and pieces I've watched from that USSR era were from Euro 88. I know your stance on that Helguera pick :D, but in terms of CV, name recognition, quality and versatility I reckon it was a rather good allocation. And if @Skizzo is unhappy with it, I'm still more than willing to trade him for Viv Anderson if we're allowed.

EDIT: I actually remember him now from watching some highlights of the 1981 Tbilisi team when researching *UNPICKED* for the Eastern Europe Draft. Looked fantastic in possession.

That's a double-edged sword though. I just picked a Spanish keeper you could easily find blundering in a big game ahead of one you won't be able to find anything but praise for.

In fact, that single blunder makes him less rated in Spain, trophies, etc... but I think I picked the right one out of the two for my team.

You could face the same thing with a certain German keeper, yet nobody in their right mind would call him crap.

EDIT: yups, Chivadze was class on the ball. I would have happily accommodated him ahead of Futre or Heinze

BTW @oneniltothearsenal are you fine with the reason we reverted back to Moby's pick? Happy to accommodate Heinze or Futre, what I'm not having is sly digs. I've sent Edgar all my picks as we've gone along with this.

True. I'm largely thinking in terms of not having to devote much time to an allocated player in the write up and match thread. The likes of Carvajal and Helguera are at least known quantities who can just slot in with minimal explanation, whereas some of the more obscure or unrated choices will require a bit of selling, and I personally don't want to spend much of my time discussing my allocated pick and taking the focus off my main men. That said, I'm happy enough with Viv. Interesting player, very highly rated in some quarters, and if I do make it through the first round I've already got an upgrade sorted.

I don't care what you do with shadow drafting but obviously if you were part of the actual draft you'd have to stick with the first name mentioned and not change it

We both got awarded trade cards though, so this actually helps everyone else since we're just using them on each other instead of each using them on a different manager.
