Apparently so and I'm sure some of the fanboys here are in full agreementdid Paul scholes really say pre game that had rooney played instead of mata against Leicester, the score would have been the same? what an incredibly stupid and utterly disrespectful thing to say
Please don't take it seriously.did Paul scholes really say pre game that had rooney played instead of mata against Leicester, the score would have been the same? what an incredibly stupid and utterly disrespectful thing to say
you're right, of course. Please don't take it seriously.
No use getting annoyed by it.
It was always going to happen when Giggs didn't get the gig (lol). Scholes has been saying bad things about United since he retired but he's stepped it up since Giggs left.you're right, of course.
But its just frustrating seeing people I respected and loved for utd on the pitch spouting such absolute garbage
They contributed to their own downfall, 3 goals from set plays and awful marking. I thought Leicester looked more likely to score, I don't think it would of been as good a performance but i can see what he is sayingdid Paul scholes really say pre game that had rooney played instead of mata against Leicester, the score would have been the same? what an incredibly stupid and utterly disrespectful thing to say
Not saying it's right or wrong, but it definitely seems to be a strong perception and is part of the reason why Rooney gets a tough time for poor performances, despite having legendary status. No one got held to ransom and you can't have a go at him for alleged leaks lol
But you can for his poor performances

Rooney wouldn't have been able to score the goal Mata did, nor would have had the speed of mind or ability to get the assist he did to Rashford either imo, was very clever play. They contributed to their own downfall, 3 goals from set plays and awful marking. I thought Leicester looked more likely to score, I don't think it would of been as good a performance but i can see what he is saying
...Football365 said:Rooney gets an assist…from ‘experts’
“Rooney just used all his experience…he didn’t go into the bodies, he just pulled out, great little move, the ball’s fired in…and he’s got an assist.”
And that – ladies and gentlemen – is how Robbie Savage described Wayne Rooney’s scuffed shot that was headed over the line by Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Manchester United’s first shot on target in the 69th minute of a Europa League clash with Zorya Luhansk.
If anybody was in any doubt, this is why the mainstream coverage of Wayne Rooney’s form is so exasperating. Having endured Paul Scholes telling us that “when them big games could round – Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City – I think we’ll see Wayne back to his best”, we then heard Robbie Savage questioned about the praise given to Juan Mata this week by Jose Mourinho.
Savage’s answer contained no insight at all about Mata but instead we heard that he astonishingly agreed with ‘Scholesey’ that Manchester United would have still beaten Leicester by the same margin had Rooney been on the pitch. Those who watched United play quick, incisive, penetrative football without their captain against the champions – and thought it no coincidence – must have been mistaken.
That they failed to play quick, incisive, penetrative football against Zorya Luhansk can be at least partly attributed to the absence of Ander Herrera and Daley Blind; the economist who claimed “soccer is a weakest link sport” presumably had the Belgian tree in mind. It was slow, it was ponderous, it was Louis van Gaal; undoubtedly he will get the blame for this leaden display.
Gary Neville’s short, sharp answer on last week’s hottest topic saw him cite Feyenoord as an example of a Rooney-less game that had gone badly, and he may well feel smug as United were once again rotten in the Europa League with their captain a spectator. The statistics will say that the game changed with the introduction of Rooney, but he was merely the recipient of some generous defending and some quite phenomenal luck. His ridiculously over-hit pass to destroy a counter-attack a few minutes later was regression to the norm.
What is astonishing is that Jose Mourinho said on Wednesday that he would not risk starting a slightly injured Rooney because “the situation that you create to him I think he really can’t afford to have a performance that is not really good and I am here to protect him and have to analyse the best thing for him”. He actually believes – or at least wants us to believe – that Rooney has been harshly treated by the media.
The simple answer is that no, Jose, you are not here to protect him, but to win football matches for Manchester United. Right now, regardless of his remarkable instinct “not to go into bodies”, the best United side still does not include its captain.
I stand by this - think he'll start.Mourinho suggesting he's rested, and Zlatan plays - against fecking Zorya.
He'll be back at the weekend, you just know it.
He'll be back for who exactly? Mata? no chance he'll be dropped after a goal and an assist.
Mourinho said after the Leisester game that he thought Zlatan played a great game despite not scoring, so I can't see that happening either.
I'm not sure who he'll start in place of (Rashford, Mata, Martial), but Mourinho's weird answers on Rooney (protecting him etc) and the fecking relentless Rooney press machine make me even more confident he'll start at the weekend. He's not rested.
Jose says he is slightly injured and fears that if he plays him he might be quite terrible.Hardly a ringing endorsement. He then went in to lavish his direct replacement with praise.
He said if Rooney had played last Saturday we'd have still beaten Leicester 4-1 and played well.Savage dismissed the Mata praise?
Not sure if its an instinctive reading of the situation or just pessimism, certainly in the last few years the most profitable strategy has been to bet on Rooney starting so it will be hard to shake that mindset until there is conclusive evidence Mourinho is going to start doing things differently. So far we have seen hints, but it is way short of conclusive evidence. So yes, I expect him to start as well - especially after getting a rest yesterday.I stand by this - think he'll start.

Hope I'm wrong, but after watching this play out for the last 3 years, you almost start to build up a kind of instinctive reading of the situation when it comes to Rooney's treatment.
Maybe because we're constantly reading between the lines and so much of what everyone says about him - journos, managers, pundits etc - is just complete and utter nonsense.
But yeah, he'll start on Sunday.
It'll go down in stats as an assist all miss hit shots do I think, not 100% mindI've just seen Zlatan's goal. Do people really call that Rooney's scuffed shot an assist pass and give him credit for it?![]()
Rooney would have most prob taken the corners had he played...He said if Rooney had played last Saturday we'd have still beaten Leicester 4-1 and played well.
And worse still, Paul Scholes said the same thing.
They do, I just read a post this morning that said he was laughing when Rooney broke the counter up....laughing!In truth, I don't think they exist. It's just a weak argument people look to make when they've ran out of reasonable opinions.
People get past the point of being angry and eventually it leads to acceptance, and they'll laugh about it instead. That's where we are with Rooney. He's been shit for so long that we expect him to muck everything up. It's best to laugh about it.They do, I just read a post this morning that said he was laughing when Rooney broke the counter up....laughing!
Not upset to see miss yet another final ball but found it amusing. Like I say there are shit fans on both sides
Savage spent the rest of the game eulogising Rooney's experience and movement for the goal and moaning about how hard the pass to him was and how he did well just to connect with it.I've just seen Zlatan's goal. Do people really call that Rooney's scuffed shot an assist pass and give him credit for it?![]()
Was not Scholes who once said Mata is not United player (you know the passion, physical side of British football)? If I recall that correctly, then Scholes is being consistent with his previous comment. Our ex players as pundits' re unbearable.Scholes comment is very disrespectful towards Mata. But I wouldn't expect anything less from Sholes when it comes to being a pundit.
I've seen better pundits in pubs.
I doubt he has any loyalty, Savage just seems one of those pundits who always takes contriversial positions just to wind people up and get attention. Why's Savage so loyal to Rooney? It's not like they ever played together, iirc.
Is he just a supposed Rooney loyalist because he's fed information to keep him happy or how else do you explain the absolute devotion/belief in Rooney?
Exactly this. Amazing how these professionals can't see but we can.Rooney would have most prob taken the corners had he played...
United supporters support United, not Rooney.Nice to see United supporters supporting Rooney as thats whats supporters should do .... support....
erm. United is made up of players. Rooney is one of them.United supporters support United, not Rooney.
Every player gets supported.Nice to see United supporters supporting Rooney as thats whats supporters should do .... support....
He said if Rooney had played last Saturday we'd have still beaten Leicester 4-1 and played well.
And worse still, Paul Scholes said the same thing.
Scholes has always been very dismissive of Mata, not sure what his issue is there since he's clearly twice the player that Rooney is these days and has contributed massively since he joined us despite having obvious weaknesses (as all players do).Scholes comment is very disrespectful towards Mata. But I wouldn't expect anything less from Sholes when it comes to being a pundit.
I've seen better pundits in pubs.
United is a club and a team more than anything. Rooney is holding both the club and the team back.erm. United is made up of players. Rooney is one of them.
Aargh that makes sense. Though if these pundits had an IQ anywhere near double digits, they'd realise that there's a limit to the shit you spout, before you lose all credibility.I doubt he has any loyalty, Savage just seems one of those pundits who always takes contriversial positions just to wind people up and get attention.
Or maybe I'm giving him too much credit and he actually really believes the crap he spouts.
Credibility is not the yardstick in punditry. Why would they give a crap? They want people to talk about them.Aargh that makes sense. Though if these pundits had an IQ anywhere near double digits, they'd realise that there's a limit to the shit you spout, before you lose all credibility.
