I wish people wouldn't turn this signing into a dig at Nani (Daniel Taylor in the Guardian did this too). Young is a very good player, as is Nani, and there is room for both. It is a squad game anyway.

So Young, then

An actual goal-threat - may get games over Valencia due to this
The only difference between Young and Valencia's goal tally is that Young used to take penalties for Villa.

Nani is way above him.

I think he could be be a good signing and all but he's certainly a 3rd winger at the minute and has to work his way into the first team (as it should be).

Nani and Valencia have a lot more top level experience and IMO are a step above at the minute - Young has to work hard and force himself in. I hope he's up to the task.

When Barry was there he was first choice. Then Carew. Then Young, but he missed a couple and Milner took over for a season. Then Young took over again when Milner left.

Cba to look up exact numbers but he is certainly a goal threat from open play. More so than Valencia. Difficult to judge between Young and Nani as they've played in different systems for completely different teams.

Let's hope both Young and Nani can get 10+ goals next season.

Actually I'm pretty clued up. I bought him a few months before SAF did, to my FF team that is. He did well for me.

Wow, eventhough I am not fully convinced by Young (yet), this thread is ridiculous... Only on the Caf

Ridiculous statement, say what specifically is ridiculous about the thread? You see one or two post and just declare the whole thread as ridiculous?

Bitten by an adder as a baby, the adder died.
We might actually look threatening from set pieces next year, that's what I'm looking forward to. He's probably the most talented English winger so I'm fairly pleased with the signing all in all. I think most of the negative feelings towards this move stem from fan's frustration that we still haven't addressed the gaping hole in our central midfield, once that's been dealt with everyone will be optimistic about next season.

From the comments section...

To all the manure mugs banging on about 19 etc, just think about this. We held the league record for 38 years! We held it jointly with Arsenal from 1973-75, then on our own until 2011!!!! Now if in the year 2049 you still hold the record, then come back and gloat, but at the moment you've had it for 5 minutes and have shown all the class of Chelsea fans (i.e., not a lot). Plus you know what they say now? Your 19 banner was just to commemorate how many times you touched the ball in the humiliation you called a "Champions" League Final! hahahahahahahaaaaaaaa!!!!!

So now we can all stop wondering what the new "18" was, it's that they held the league record for 38 years... Damn those scousers, getting one up over us all the time!

I don't get how any fans apart from Barca ones can mock us about the final, at least we were there, what was everyone else doing?

To be fair, if Milan had held on to 3-0 in 2005 we'd have never let them hear the end of it

We got embarrassingly schooled in two CL finals in 3 years, that's fair game
I dont go on about their defeat in Greece.

It is good when they lose a final. Then its over.

Until they overtake our title haul, we have a right to rub their faces in it.

Young have every chance to have good start with us.

Both Valencia and Chicarito will come back late after their summer holiday. So there will be lot's of opportunity's for him to play a major part early in the season. I really look forward to see him in a United shirt. He brings so much quality to our squad. His speed and work ethic is top notch and finally we have a dead ball specialist.

Chicho scoring 7 goals so far in the finals will be in full flow when he starts the season.
