Suarez bites | "sorry for falling into him and biting him and that"

Wish Chiellini had just battered him.

Suarez reminds me of that tinky bully that's at every school. Picks on people etc, but if someone stood up to him and gave him a slap he'd play the victim card.

He's such an amazing footballer, probably the third best player in the world at the moment, but he's such an idiot.

I think the responsible thing to do would be to not base any ban on the concept of punishment, but base it on how long it takes for Suarez to receive treatment and sort himself out. 8 games clearly wasn't long enough last time.

I think rugby has given a number of bans for biting in the 3 -18 month range. Not sure of the severity of each case though.

He hasn't learnt his lesson from his last 2 punishments, so they were obviously not sufficient enough to change his ways. If he is not hit hard this time something will happen again soon.
A season long ban from all forms of football may seen a bit heavy but the punishment needs to register that this can't happen.
Twice is unforgivable in my opinion but three times.

If banning him isn't working it makes no sense to hit him with another ban. He's been made an example of multiple times.
Of course it makes sense to ban him if only to protect his opponents from him.The guy is obviously insane.
I believe a season long ban is the very least he should get.

Hmm, it must just be a coincidence you think racism is cause to be banned for life and Suarez served a ban for... racism.

First thing that sprung to mind. I'm being genuine when I say racism should be punished with a year out and then a lifetime ban for repeats.

He needs to get his shit together for sure, now, it’s not as if he’s biting chunks out of people in a vicious way the way some people are getting on calling for lifetime bans and whatnot, but it’s bloody bizarre behaviour & it's difficult for any normal person to attempt to rationalise. How does he not realise people won’t see that shit clear as day after the last few times. I'm just hoping from a purely selfish point of view that any ban only applies to International football cos he should be looking at a long one, and rightly so. Mental! Im pretty sure we've been providing therapy to him after the Ivanovic incident and his unsavoury side did seem to be absent last season so its sad to see this latest distasteful act. Mental.

Yeah, Barney's having one of his mares in this thread. He should keep posting though, as it's comedy gold.

FIFA can impose a ban of up to 2 years for biting, since this is jaws third offence, he won't be playing football for a while.

You don't just ban somebody for them to learn from their behaviour. You ban someone for punishment and for the protection of others, too. IMO, its not something that he will learn from whatever happens. Its something deep inside his brain that just takes over for whatever and he loses the plot.

A suspended lifetime ban would let him play and put his career in his own hands. Do you think he'll bite someone again with that looming over his head?

I won't debate the efficacy of a heavy punishment but would it truly be just in comparison to what else goes on unpunished in the game? It'd be excessive, IMHO. If bans like this were routinely used against players who consistently engaged in dangerous play then sure, I'd be on board with it

There is very rarely an incident where something isn't worse. Doesn't make it justifiable. And you ARE trying to brush it off. Because you're not just saying how terrible it is, but trying to deflect attention to all the worse things there are - and in doing so, indirectly, defending Suarez. Typical.

No I am not. If you look at my posts, you will see I have said several times already he should be banned and how it is impossible to defend.

As I said, there is always something worse. A serial killer has nothing on Hitler, but doesn't mean when we think about what he's done we say "oh but, it's bad but, Hitler was worse" do we?

Bringing up worse cases becomes relevant when people's outrage has them reacting worse and arguing for stronger punishment, than for incidents that are worse. I am not just saying 'there are worse things' out of nowhere. The context is the extreme positions some are taking up.

For comparison, Keane got a 3+5 match ban after admitting he tried to break Haaland's leg.

Thatcher got an 8 match ban for what he did on Mendes.

Tassotti 8 match ban for breaking Enrique's nose.

Those are the standards we are looking at.

Nevermind Schumacher on Battiston being settled with a goalkick, as that doesn't any standards. But for context, that is about the only incident I feel any 'lifetime ban' discussion should even be opened for.

We make these judgements all the time; some acts are always seen as worse than others despite them causing less pain, or despite the intent to cause harm being present in both cases. But there is just something about certain things, such as biting, spitting, pissing on etc, which are seen on another level to normal physical lashes. That's just my opinion, you're free to disagree (and I know you will).

I agree that it is definitely weirder, somehow more vicious to bite someone. I don't think the fact that it "comes across as worse" when reason tells us it isn't actually worse, means he should get a longer ban. On the contrary, this is where panels need to step back from popular opinion.

I do agree that people saying this is the worst thing ever are OTT, but in context, he has done this 3 times which is why people are much more outraged and shocked than normal. You have to factor the multiple offender in when people make a judgement about it happening. I also think lifetime ban is OTT, but something serious has to be done here to set an example.[7quote]

I agree with that as well.

He'll get a ban & then make his return telling everyone how thankful he is to Liverpool FC for sticking by him during this hard time.
Despite the uproar now everyone in the media will forgive him once he starts scoring goals & Liverpool are doing well again.
Then he'll bugger off to Madrid or Barca next summer & Liverpool fans will be distraught about how he's betrayed them & let them down after giving him so much support.

That is basically what happened the last time he did it except that he messed it up by biting someone else.
They may as well sell him now, save themselves the heartache & try to save some face.

But you see none of these are relevant at all, because none of these players repeated the despicable act 3 times, along with other equally if not worse despicable acts (such as racism).

Liverpool's new training kit has been unveiled.

Liverpool save face?

They backed a scumbag who bites and racially abuses players. Way too late. Not that they ever had much class to begin with.

So his previous 2 bans were well over the top?, and due to repeat offence should be given a much smaller ban?

He's done it again, he should be banned for longer than before. In any case, the 10-13 game bans don't work, he needs to be banned longer to get the message across or wear a muzzle or something.
This is in an international football tournament, not the leagues. A 2 heck make it 3-4 for international matches only if you want, ban would seem like fifa going lenient on him but it would also rule out the idea of the media witch hunt as well as placing the blame solely on Suarez, removing the victim mentality of it and effectively making it that his country get knocked out of the tournament by losing their best player. Banning someone so it affects the competition they're in is the priority, not some chance for a life lesson that would enable him to pander this victim mentality bullshit, stop the national outcry and firmly place the blame on his shoulders.

Exactly! Suarez has been given bans around the 8 game mark, three times? So surely it's logical the ban heavily increases?

Throw the book at him, minimum of 12 months at least.

3 times plus racist abuse he never fecking learns.

All the Liverpool fans and Rodgers must be feeling a tad idiotic today. Year long talk of redemption and then he goes on and does this.

Of course biting is less dangerous than some tackles but it's plain ridiculous, malicious and disrespects the game. Doing it once is insane, doing it three times is inexplicable really. While I don't think he will or should be given a lifetime ban, he has to be punished severely or else he will keep doing that. Sheer arrogance from him when he says these things happen is ban worth alone.

He's massively let down Rodgers especially after his speech at the PFA awards.

The guy is a CAS lawyer, its as close up of the situation and rules we could get. Its all about FIFA's balls now.

true, they should probably let all the serial offenders out of prisons too, they'll never learn the little scamps.

He's massively let down Rodgers especially after his speech at the PFA awards.

Massively let down his country aswell.

He'll get a total ban on football. The fact that it's his third time will make it difficult for him to survive the shitstorm.

It was a bite. A lifetime ban should be handed out for something like racism, not for biting someone.

I honestly think he's going to get hammered here. Fifa will nail him. To do this on the global stage, Fifa's baby, in Brazil, in front of millions during a tournament that is getting praised for it's exciting football...

The last world cup he was involved in a cheating storm v Ghana. Between tournaments he's been found guilty of making racist comments to a player, biting other players. And now he's come out with these comments today saying "these things happen"

Suarez is fecked. No doubt. And Liverpool will suffer for it.

Rodgers especially. Remember the quotes from Brendon along the lines of "I don't train footballers, I train human beings" or some shite like that.

Banning him hasn't worked so he should be made to play in every game of football from now until the end of time, see if that works.
