The RedCafe Boxing Thread

Garcia just looked bigger and stronger in there. Faster hands, especially with the left.

Wow, as if Garcia pissed about, faced all the drink and drug allegations in the lead up, had people calling him and clown and a waster….then went out and won. Not great for Haneys rep

Thanks a lot Devin. Literally the worst thing that could happen in boxing this clown winning and being legitimized.

How anybody could have rooted for Garcia is beyond me. This dude has zero respect for the game.

Guy clowns around during the whole lead up while a p4p fighter like Haney trained his ass off and still floors him three times. Can’t say anything. Too good.

He legitimised himself by winning. Having respect for the game is being ready when that bell rings and not selling yourself and the fans short, which he came through.

Garcia acts like a clown but there’s nothing about him that’s suggests he’s a bad person and I’d much rather that than these boring ass robots pretending to be nice guys.

112-112 is why many can't take the sport seriously.

Garcia clearly deserved the decision because of the knock-downs but other than Haney outboxed him and won most of the rounds.

Bar the knock-downs Haney world have won by five or six rounds it was a strange fight.

Glad Garcia won though he is a lot better to watch

Yeah the 115-109 card was actually more outrageous than the 112-112 card. There is always a chance for peds but you have to remember the Garcia that fought against Davis was at 135 with a rehydration clause. This was at 140 which he didn't even make with no clause.

He didn't even try to make weight, dude literally stuck a giant middle-finger in everyone's face rather than owning it. Must be nice when you have the privilege of paying for an obvious advantage and then saying feck you to everybody rather than take accountability. That is the epitome of disrespect, the guy is an absolute weapon.

I mean, Ali showed up at Sonny Liston's house after midnight and trashed talked him in the lead up to their fight. Let's not pretend that shit housing didn't happen with the very best in his sport.

I don’t understand your reply in regards to my post. I meant to illustrate Garcia was smoking, drinking and tweaking as preparation while Haney trained his ass off. And still he got destroyed. Respect to Garcia’s ability.

Thought the ref was really poor for the fight. Haney should have been deducted a point for excessive clinching. You can tell he never really expected that beatdown and he couldn't handle Garcia's power.

It would be good to see the fight again - where both make weight. Garcia's power was obviously the difference in the fight but you could see that Haney was the more classier, smoother fighter and if he can keep Garcia at arm's length and avoid the left hook - he'd win the rematch.

Garcia has a lot of options now however - he's got the rematch, he called out a few people after the fight such as Fundora/Boots/Shakur and he's got the potential rematch against Tank which I'll think he'll avoid.

I think it’s ambitious, I doubt any other side in the history of the league has finished 6th whilst conceding 20 shots a game.
It’d be like a boxer deciding to go into a title fight and go 12 rounds with his defence being well, just his hands by his sides.

I had to share that one with you.

Anyone saw Garcia explain that everything was an act?

Finally got round to watching Haney-Garcia. Personally had it 112-112, with the caveat that I think there probably should have been an additional knockdown called in round 7. Can see 113-111 Garcia for sure.

The other two cards are a joke, I'd love to know how those judges - on top of rounds 1, 7, 10, 11 which obviously Garcia clearly won - managed to find an extra 3/4 rounds in his favour... he barely did anything.

Obviously a big upset but the fallout of this has been crazy. People are talking like there's no case for a rematch and that he absolutely whooped Haney which is simply not factual. And the over-correction on evaluating Garcia now is mental. I've seen a lot of comments on the back of him calling out Spence where people think he's just going to walk through him... if Spence is not completely shot to bits (highly possible) he would butcher Garcia at 154.

Agreed, I also watched the fight recently as of the last 24 hours and I was surprised that the online fans / media reception made it seem like a blow out, but judging the fight round for round at best you could give Garcia 1 (accurate) or 2 (generous) rounds advantage but no more.

It was a very competitive fight and the theatrical elements of the knock-downs somewhat created this narrative like it was one-sided which it wasn't.

I still think Devin bests most of the champions at 140 with Matias giving him a tougher fight but stylistically I could see Teofimo struggling as he's more of a counter puncher going up against a pure boxer. Isaac Cruz is another wildcard but given his height and him having to punch himself into range he'll struggle against a disciplined jab with range which explains why his team reportedly rejected the Stevenson bout.

More immediate concern is it's Devin's second fight at a new weight and he's already looking gaunt before rehydrating, thought he looked way to cut on the day of the fight and considering he would have had at least 20 ounces water after the weigh in there's glaring signs already being too big for the weight. I think the only thing stopping him and Ryan from looking at 147 is Jaron Ennis, if you take him out the picture it's open season between the current junior welterweights and the likes of Barrios and Stanionis who likely get active when Crawford vacates.

Andd Garcia has tested positive for PEDs. Haney might and probably should get his 0 back once the B sample has been tested.

Canelo has Mungaia down in round 4 with an uppercut. Seemed like Mungaia had won the first two possibly three rounds but this is all Canelo now.

Got a knockdown back in the 2nd and is on top now. I'd don't follow boxing all that closely but was surprised I'd never heard of this guy before last week.

You're in for a treat then! Another big knockdown in the 5th too. They don't call him the Monster for nothing.

Forgotten about this - told the grandchild and gardening to feck off - just in time for the knockout
