Absolutely. There's this fantastic digital service on a certain other games console that excites through variety and enraptures through value.

If you're wedded to the idea of buying a PS5 though I certainly won't stop you (even if it is a truly tragic decision).
can an Xbox be put on a wall bracket…

Don't listen to this nutters ramblings @TheReligion - PS5 all day long and I wouldn't go digital yet. Hard copy games are still cheaper and you can sell them once finished with them.

I finished AC Valhalla too, hated it at first but thought it was great by the end. I actually felt like playing through it again after watching Vikings TV series.
I just couldn't deal with the loop. First 10 hours - good. But for me a game of that length needs to have something- either good writing or good combat. Without those two the pretty world wasn't enough. I was pretty much playing due to shiny PS5 graphics.

It was one of the first I played on ps5 too, maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much. Great loading times a factor too.

Can't play any PS4 games these days, tried shadow of the tomb raider the other week because it's the only one of the 3 I hadn't completed and feck that waiting about loading.

Wasn't there a PS5 update for this? I'm sure SOTTR is the one I played most recently, it looked really, really nice.

Been playing through the The Last Of Us 2 after dropping off it the first time around and it really is a great game. Just so bloody depressing and I have just reached the main Abby part and am struggling to find the motivation to continue at the moment, just a real pacing issue there as much as her personality.

The Ellie birthday chapter? Scene? Sequence? just had me smiling throughout, beautifully done if terribly bittersweet.

That's one thing I didn't have a problem with. We love so many dark movies and TV shows which have become the in thing. But in this game it seems a lot of people had a problem with it.

Plenty of dark themes in games before but very rarely with characters as fully realized as Joel and Ellie, which makes the terrible things that they do or are done to them so crushing, which really is a credit to the developers. I remember thinking that the original didn't need a sequel, the ambiguity of the ending was perfect, but part of that was probably knowing that things could only get worse for them and I don't think I have ever connected with a game character as much as these two.

The dark themes didn't bother me, it was the murder porn, especially towards the dogs that made it a struggle to get through.

I gave up on my first attempt, but loved it on my second. On that second play through I tended to plough through the combat and avoid as much of it as possible.

Also by the end I sympathised with Abby far more than Ellie who came across as ungrateful and arrogant. But I think that was their ultimate goal. Put you in the shoes of someone you automatically hate, and then make you feel sorry for her and recognise her struggles and why she was (kind of) justified in what she did.

I'd imagine the fact that the remake of 1 has been called part 1 and 2 already had the subtitle of part 2, we will get a part 3 at some point.

It was pretty relentlessly vicious and cruel. It might have been effective if i was on board with the premise at any point but i started in 'this is a bad idea' territory and then had 40 hours of heavy handed lesson on why it was a bad idea.

I believe that's the point of the story. Although the end is I suppose is the relenting of the viscous cruelty which is symbolic and ideally would be followed up by a final part that ties up the arc.

I didn't mind the dark nature of the game. I thought there were some light moments sprinkled throughout between the various companions you were on the journey. I'd just have change a few things about the last 2/3 hours that just didn't land.

What impressed me most about TLOU 2 was the gameplay. It was absolutely excellent and I'm someone who, like many, felt the gameplay in the original was clunky, basic and probably the weakest aspect of it.

BTW is there a big difference between PS4 and PS5 versions? I remember it ran superbly on the Ps4 too.

The Last Of US 2 was like a run of the mill walking dead episode but stretched over 30 hours, with lots of dog killing. I can easily see why people hated it.

The day Naughty Dog staffers read a novel or watch a decent film, they might stand a chance at making something interesting.

I presume it was intentional, it just wore me down. The gameplay was excellent 10/10 territory stuff.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is excellent. The first was one of my favourite games in the last few years though. Visually it's absolutely stunning and I'm enjoying the story and gameplay so far but am only on chapter 3.

I still enjoyed it but it wasn't a patch on Lacrimosa of Dana. It was more of the same but with a worse story, characters, and a dreary setting as opposed to a big colourful island. Dana is one of my favourite RPG's of recent years whereas this was more... serviceable. The combat is still so much fun, though.
Coming back to this, I finished Ys IX yesterday and ended up really enjoying it. The bland setting is still its biggest flaw, but I'm not sure I agree with the worse story and characters. I thought it was really well done, even if it took a while to get going. On average, I probably liked its cast of characters more than Ys VIII's. It also felt like this game was less of an isolated episode in Adol's life and acknowledged and referenced his previous travels more, which was nice.

Gameplay wise, it's definitely the most refined of the Ys VII engine games, with fluid and fast-paced combat and traversal options that lead to improved dungeon design. It's good stuff, but they've probably taken this style as far as they could. Next game will be a big overhaul of the formula and a new engine, which I'm looking forward to. The previous engine had a good run though and this game was a worthy send off.

Anyone else getting to the age where you don’t have much time for gaming anymore and feel they need to cut down on the systems they own?

just turned 40 and will be moving in with my other half next year and getting married the following year.
currently have a ps5, a series x, a rtx 3070 gaming pc, a steam deck and a 2022 iPad Pro. Sold my switch last week.

thinking of selling the ps5 because I don’t like the size/shape of it and haven’t played on it for a while and CEX are offering 465 for them at the moment. Could always borrow my brothers everytime a big game is out. Or rebuy a slim version in the future. Just wish Sony would release games on pc at same time as PlayStation.

I know having an Xbox and a pc is a bit overkill but I really like the series x console and the way smart delivery and play anywhere works.

anyone else in a similar situation, did you cut down on the amount of systems you had?

Yeah, I've only went for the ps5 this time round, don't get enough use out of the 2nd console.

If I was you I'd ditch the Xbox and keep the ps5 though as you can play all / most Xbox games on your gaming pc.

Feels like there's a few good releases coming up, in particular God of War and Callisto Protocol. Also want to play 'Devil in Me' in November ( a Dark Pictures cheesy horror game).

Dead Space Remake and RE4 in the first quarter of 2023 too.

Yea that does make the most sense. Looking at my XSX games Ive purchased, it’s only really FIFA 23 that I haven’t double dipped on pc anyway. Everything else I’ve played on it has been on game pass Or I have bought on steam, Or Xbox one games (still own an Xbox one s)

Dunno if anyone has played it but I’ve stumbled on a great little game called Road 96. Fans of outer wilds, firewatch will probably like this. Very original gem.

Won’t say too much about it as I reckon it’s best hit cold but suffice to say I’ve been really surprised at how good it is.

Edit: I love it when a £8 game keeps me from playing an expensive AAA game such as CODMW2. I’ll be on this all day I reckon, if j out all weekend.

Road 96 - dunno what it’s meant to be but I’ve completed it and just completely loved it, straight into my top games of the year and I’m going to start it straight off again as I only need a couple of bits and bobs for the plat.

The mark of a great game is when you’re gutted it’s over. Not many bargains to be had in the world of games these days but this is one.

Sounds good and just noticed it's on Gamepass. I'll give it a go when I get a bit bored of Persona 5
