Pure moneyball and no fetish attached to homegrown or young players. They identify players who are undervalued and purchase them, and from a position of strength they make clubs pay over the odds if they want their prized youth who are still unproven. If they didn't sell Brewster, it would be no big deal. Probably on very low wages.

Jota is kind of the one as stands out as being odd for Liverpool, but maybe they will have gotten that one right too.
Yeah that makes sense. It's the structure they've put in place then? Michael Edwards and his colleagues. People who understand football inside out. Some of the best in the business - looking at their track record.

Why don't we have this type of structure in place and why don't we have the best in the business working for us. We should aspire to be the best on and off the pitch.

0 goals, 0 starts = surplus to requirements = deadwood.
Brewster made 4 appearances for Liverpool two as a starter and two from the bench, Tariq Lamptey on the other hand played a grand total of 38 minutes for Chelsea coming off the bench 3 times, would you describe him as deadwood as well?

But you're missing the point, what I was saying was there is a world of difference between selling Brewster and Jones and Rojo.

I agree there is a huge difference between the two.

How much did Brighton pay for Lamptey? Perhaps deadwood is the wrong term. £23.5 million is an astronomical fee for a player that is completely and utterly unproven. They've literally made the money they spent on Thiago back, a CL winner and amongst the best midfielders in world football whilst selling a player who didn't have a chance of getting into their first team and didn't feature for them on a single occasion in the PL.

It baffles me how they can make that kind of money on a promising yet unproven, untested and inexperienced player that will be lucky to get to the level of even Solanke/ Ibe.

Weird that we want to rid of Dalot so quickly? Maybe theres problems behind the scenes but its seem a little unfair that hes barely been given a chance.
It's unfair but we really don't need him, we'll probably be going with Laird. Plus if we do get a new LB, then Williams can presumably be backup at RB too.

He is a better winger than Dan James and more skillfull. However his defending is ropey as...

Run by fcuking idiots. Plain and simple, an embarrassment of a club with regards to this. Thank God we still have our great history and worldwide support to stop us becoming a total laughing stock.

In a way that is what's making us an even bigger laughing stock, because we really shouldn't be operating like this. We should have the best of everything. To be honest some of our sponsors are not that great. Everything is second rate.

It's encouraging to see members of the press stick up for Ole on this. Hopefully the gobshite element of our fanbase can do likewise rather than getting on his back and giving Ed and the Glazers another free pass.

He was finished as soon as we wellied 50m into a similar aged right back.

But it's best if the club act quickly don't you think? Rather than with the Jones and Rojo scenarios where they hang around years and years after their effective use

Think Telles gets over the line when Smalling is finally sorted, however wouldn't put money on anything else right now at all

United paying the price for keeping deadwood and even giving them extensions. Ok, nobody's beating Pool this season but if you wanna compete for the title in 21/22 you had to move Joneses, Lingards, Matas. Now you have players on big contracts which no team wants while you're asked to pay premium for your targets.

Should have been obvious from the time Woodward started talking about the loss of revenue that we wouldn't be making many signings. Glazer's are about the money first and foremost.

I agree but you only have to read some posts around here to know that ain’t gonna happen.

The Glazers apparently have final say on transfers - no reason Woodward to act with such hesitation.

Seems like a briefing from either Woodward to get the Glazers to spend, or Ole lighting a fire under the asses of those involved with the transfers. Absolute shambles of a transfer window even if we sign Sancho and Telles, which I have zero faith we'll sign either.
