I would definitely prefer Fletcher in that role ahead of Fellaini. At least Fletcher is disciplined and can follow instruction. I'd worry Fellaini will go wandering again.Fletcher has been poor this season, but if Herrera is out then I'd rather Fletch played than throwing in Carrick or playing someone out of position. I know it'll slow down our passing a bit, but we have enough quality going forward and can make a change if needed. However, it will probably be Fellaini as he's fit now...
de Gea
Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
Blind
Fellaini di Maria
Mata
van Persie Falcao
Assuming one of Jones/Smalling will be fit to start and Carrick will make the bench.

Good riddance. Still, a week inbetween games still feels too long. I'm spoilt.Correct
Surely we don't need two defensive midfielders against the Baggies!?Assuming all mentioned players are out such as Herrera/ Rooney etc I'd like to see
Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
Blind Carrick
ADM
Januzaj............ Mata
Falcao
Blind is mobile, Carrick is static, I wouldn't focus on the starting position, I'd deploy Blind as a B2B or to push up with ADM when attacking..Surely we don't need two defensive midfielders against the Baggies!?
But that takes the position of someone who could offer far more offensively.Blind is mobile, Carrick is static, I wouldn't focus on the starting position, I'd deploy Blind as a B2B or to push up with ADM when attacking..
Rooney is Suspened. Herrera as a defensive midfielder?
I agree with your post but I am doubtful whether changing things for chelsea is the best way to go. So far this season we have seen our players get confused when LVG tried anything other than the diamond. Even in the past few games they couldn't follow his instructions of holding onto possession and seeing out the game and his subs were also ineffective. Given this, I am not so sure if this team at this point can alter their style of play effectively and adapt on the fly.I'd play roughly the same line-up against West Brom that played Everton, minus the injured players of course.
de GeaI predict quite a few changes for the Chelsea game with a more conservative approach, so I see no need to change our attacking formation and personnel for the West Brom game.
Rafael - Jones - Rojo - Shaw
Blind
Pereira - di Maria
Mata
van Persie - Falcao
Subs: Lindegaard, Smalling, Blackett, Carrick, Fellaini, Januzaj, Wilson
Very attacking line-up, certainly on paper. I would have a few concerns over di Maria and Rojo's 'readiness' for the game if you will, following their travels with the national team, but Rojo didn't feature in the last game against Hong Kong and di Maria only had a short cameo off the bench.
I don't think it would be prudent for van Gaal to employ the 4-4-2 diamond against Chelsea, as we will get cut apart with their quick transitions down the flanks and it will be near impossible to contain Hazard either wide or centrally with that kind of attacking personnel and negligence toward defensive work from some players.
Against West Brom however, we should have enough to overpower them and it's also a solution to the short-term captaincy conundrum if van Persie starts again. I don't see a more suitable alternative to Pereira on the right side of midfield in Herrera and Valencia's absence, so we should be able to maintain a lot more control and fluidity in midfield with Pereira.
Hopefully, we will be in a comfortable position with some time remaining so we can offer Carrick and Januzaj minutes ahead of what could be a decisive game for us against Chelsea, as both might be needed for tactical reasons.
The name just makes me shudder now, can we not just pretend he doesn't play for us and sell him cheap through the backdoor, it's the only hangover left of last seasonFletcher has been poor this season, but if Herrera is out then I'd rather Fletch played than throwing in Carrick or playing someone out of position. I know it'll slow down our passing a bit, but we have enough quality going forward and can make a change if needed. However, it will probably be Fellaini as he's fit now...

Thanks, that was a good watch.Match preview from Full Time Devils.
I forgot Rooney was banned. Shame on me.
Or as you say with big games coming up do you play these players into form and get a bit of continuity. Its a tricky mix. Personally I'd be surprised if we started Januzaj against Arse, Chels or City so maybe its best to get some continuity going.Think it might be time to unleash Januzaj, either instead of Mata or RVP. The quality of football from our front three has been rather underwhelming this season. With some big matches coming up, we do need to find something extra.
