Looking for Eric
Look Very Good today, Herrera is exactly what we need. What a difference a year makes some optimism at last and playing football, passing and movement instead of the static rubbish we witnessed last year.
If LVG can do this after a few days what can he accomplish with more time?
Great to see the younger players get some time, Keane, James and Blackett looked good.

If I'm correct, and I like to think I am, this was the setup on paper. (correct me if wrong). Imagine if you swap Fletcher with Vidal, Valencia with Rafael, put Hummels in there instead of one of the defenders.

If you excuse me I will go and perform the dance of joy.
Evans played to the left & Jones in the middle.

I was really pleased with the squad today. It is true that the other team was bad however we saw a level of energy that we rarely see in pre-season matches. Our boys were running all over the pitch and the fitness of the squad looked good. We played a swift direct attacking football that I`m sure every United fan all over the world enjoyed.

Van Gaal will not stand slackers and it shows on the pitch. Everyone was out there to impress and show his best. I`m certain that we ran at least the same amount of mileage in this game as in a regular PL game. It was nice to see since it is the first game of the tour, the players were traveling and the time difference.

Our next opponents are going to be more challenging. Games with some serious teams on the horizon and it will be interesting to see how we perform. The tactic that we played was really a joy to watch. We have not played such football for a while.

Herrera was majestic. What a beast. I hope he continues to impress.

The defenders will need some time to adapt to the new formation. It showed several times today that they can get caught out of position.

Overall a very positive start. I`m so glad that we finally have proper manager to lead the club.

Was rather fun to wake up to that half time score. Ended up late for work watching the last 45. Granted it is very early to come to conclusions, but then my wife says I like to come to conclusions early....

...this season can only get better than last. Top 3 is my guess

Who is he? You mean besides a footballer and a United player?

He can play either FB position, iirc. Mostly LB, Captained the Reserves last season.
Well obviusly I knew he's a footballer and a United player.
Thanks. :)

NIce morning with 7-0 result, what a beginning to LVG reign!

P.s. How did Mata do? :)

Well that was thoroughly enjoyable, I can't remember any game last season that made me feel that positive about our current squad. Lets see how we hold up against Madrid and the other big boys first though before we get carried away.

Side note: These new match day threads are awesome, well done guys.

I shed some tears of joy after watching Herrera play today. I know it was pre-season against a poor side, but after watching the crap that we had in midfield for the last couple of season, this display came as a breath of fresh air.

7-0?????? Holy crap, I gotta watch this. Hopefully someone uploads this so I can enjoy it too.

Couldn't watch it because it was way too early in the morning.

28, but the club tweeted that squad numbers for the tour did not necessarily mean the players would wear those numbers once the season starts. He'll get #3.

Great overall performance.Liked the way we closed down and won the ball ,we dominated midfield and in Herrara we've found our creative midfielder. He was outstanding tonight. Was also impressed with James , Blackett ,Keane and Young. Stiffer tests ahead as Galaxy were disappointing ,but it looks very promising.

Great confidence building result.
Herrera was a joy to watch, finally a midfielder who thinks f*ck all this passing backwards shite. I think he was awesome and would look even better alongside Strootman or Vidal. However if we can't get either of them I still think a Blind or De Jong would be a huge improvement on Fletcher, Cleverely and Carrick.
Defensively I'm not a huge fan of three at the back but they all did fairly well today, Smalling looking the most uncomfortable as always.
If we sign De Vrij or muppet dream Hummels I would be a lot more confident playing this way.
Shaw was very timid in his approach, looked a bit shell shocked to be honest but he will come good. He probably never dreamed of playing a pre season game in front of 70000 plus supporters.
Other plus points were Mata who looked class as usual, Kagawa in the last 30 mins looked a threat linking well with Herrera and even Cleverley and Young looked half decent.
A special mention to Reece James, looked very comfortable indeed and what a left peg. No nonsense finishing. Shaw may have some competition already!

That was definitely worth setting my alarm for, even watching in French commentary didn't bother me.

Very good performance, of course Roma will give us a much sterner test

Even though this is a friendly, I'm glad the players took it seriously, unlike last season when Moyes was in charge, we were losing pre season friendlies to the likes of the Thai team and others. An excellent confidence builder and good start. Hopefully the players will have the same hunger for the rest of the friendlies, then we can approach the start of the season with full confidence.

A really good game, better than I expected. Made it worth getting up at 04.45!
Herrera was brilliant and as others have said the whole team looked good. Not the best opposition but it was actually fun watching us again. I thought Keane, Blackett and (our own) James all did good. Looking forward even more than before to the rest of the games now. Bring em on!

As good a start for Van Gaal as we could have hoped for. Onwards and upwards! I hope we stuff Roma too/again!

Would it be possible to add assists to season stats? What a player Ander Herrera even if it was l.a he done more through balls in that game then carrick, Afro & cleverley did whole of last season

It would be nice to have and I can add assists to the player profiles, but somebody will need to provide me with the data. It's too much to manage on top of everything else while covering a match.

So it could be done after matches are finished. Are you volunteering to be the assists data miner? :)

Wow, did not expect 7-0, crazy stuff and i hope we see tactics like that (although i know they won't always bring such a positive result) more from LvG. Just wish i could find the full match recorded somewhere.

Loved Rooney's 2nd, literally walked it in.

Seriously. How did a Man Utd team lose to Singha All Stars?

How could, basically the same squad (admittedly Herrera makes a massive difference), perform that differently? I don't believe Singha All Stars are much better than LA Galaxy. Yet...
