Who else starts when Falcao's still working his way to full match fitness? Have some common sense ffs.
He just started two games for Columbia (and scored) didn't he? He's been back for months now and we don't play for another 6 days after this. I think he's capable of starting games. He hardly looks anymore knackered after 60 mins than RvP does tbh.

No one hates Van Persie lol, enough with the hyperbole extremes.

Every single person who has moaned about RVP on here will be cheering if he scores. Some people just don't think its healthy for a player to keep starting every game when they are out of form.
And it's not healthy to start a player when he's not fit enough.

How is it even possible for Young to be on the bench? Seriously, either he is good at training (Which he obviously isn't) or he is the biggest ass kisser ever seen in football. A huge disgrace Young still can play matches for Manchester fecking United. Why not Andreas Pereira or even James Wilson?!

Seriously, it makes me so angry that Young can cheat himself for playing for Manchester United. Our standards should be much bigger. And what the hell is going on having 3 CMs on the bench? Beside Falcao, we don't have anything to reply with, if WBA takes the lead. No firepower. Carrick is a slow starter and shouldn't be able to make a impact yet after 5 months without football.

He will surely start against Chelsea on sunday. Starting him tonight is risky when he's only been back a couple of days.

i'd rather rest Falcao for the Chelsea game, he'll be more fresher.

Jetlag and less preperation time. I think we all understand that. Playing three games in a week when he is jetlagged and not fully match fit is an invitation to injury. Januzaj also deserves a chance so a perfect game to play him. If this was chelsea or arsenal, I am sure we would have risked him.

I'd rather see Falcao start. Van Gaal putting his selection down to player jet lag.
Wasn't Di Maria away in China while Falcao was away in South America? I think that's a cop out. He clearly wants to go one up top and under those circumstances there's only one guy he'll ever have eyes for.

Wondering if the thought process is this. Given their form, and with Rooney not available who is better to give us some spark off the bench in the 2nd half....RVP or Falcao? Not saying I would agree with that, but wondering if that is playing into it?

Can't see any logic behind this, it was the same when Rooney was out of form. The best way to get a player on form is playing him.

Di Maria didn't have a career threatening knee injury for most of the year. He's fully fit and up to speed. Falcao's still finding his feet.

    feck off Savage
I just had 5live on while I was making the tea. The best part was in the media marks where due to Van Gaal being good to listen to Savage and Chapman decided that the media might be going a bit soft on him and if it had been David Moyes he would have faced much sterner criticism.

Savage has also seen no change in the way we are playing and not enough passing out from the back. You know, apart from us leading the league in possession going into the Everton game the other week.

Decent team. Definitely think it's practice for the bigger games in the coming weeks. Ideally I'd prefer Falcao as the lone striker because he's more mobile than RVP, but can't argue too much if he's fatigued from travelling.

van Persie better decide to actually turn up today. He hasn't had a good game all season.

So no player should ever be dropped then if they are out of form?, if we had 4 or 5 players playing shit every match, we should never drop them?.

Shite, I just realized that Lescott is playing for WBA. You can bet that he'll have the match of his life!

I was just about to come on here and say How I feel that This is a game where Falcao will run riot here, just watching pre match commentary on SS MNF and Falcao is on the bench.

    Totally gutted :(

I have been so frustrated (as we all have)at having to wait for the 2 week international bloody break and now I have been completly deflated :(

I think it's a precaution because of Jet lag as I couldn't quite make out what LVG just said

We'll let's hope that we are cruising and he won't need to come on a create a miracle to get us points, usually with 7 minutes to go so people can say he's not performing :£

Glad to see januzaj in the starting 11th, hope he gives a performance like those from last season, i think he really needs one. Also its good to see jones back in the team. We really need the 3 points before going into a rough patch of games.

I like the change to 4-2-3-1 and I am glad to see Januzaj starting, but RvP playing instead of Falcao is disappointing, as is no Wilson on the bench.

    Not really

You are just annoyed because your shiny new toy isn't starting

RVP will lead the line well tonight
Absolute bollocks mate. The "shiny new toy" as you put it is in far better form than Van Persie and should therefore be starting. If however RVP has a blinder tonight then I will bow to your superior foresight :-)

Yeah you're probably right. I feel Falcao needs a run of games to get in his stride. Sadly Persie looks a little past sell by date.

Hope RvP is in form, he'll get a shit load of chances with all those wonderfully creative players behind him. Love the line up, but very reliant on Robin to convert chances.

Some of you lot, Jesus

Someone's already quoted LVG as to why Falcao isn't starting tonight, yet you're still all crying about our new shiny toy not starting. Don't you think LVG might know a bit more about how fit or not he is right now, and with his previous injury, not want to risk him?

I can see RvP playing as more of a false 9 today. There's a lot of pace and dribbling ability in behind him today. His own lack of mobility will be less of a factor if he's deployed that way.

Just saw our starting line-up. Looks like a 4-3-3 to me.
