Started this recently, only watched the first two episodes but thought it was very good.

Ruth Wilson, despite her strange mouth, is sex.
Ruth Wilson is terrific in this, at least the first series anyway. Great actor

It's a lack of authenticity, Matt. That's been my take, anyway.

The exchanges between Luther & Wilson have always been the best part of the series

This is coming back for two hour long episodes next year :D
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.

Always felt unfinished and was disappointed to hear the producer say that he felt Idris had outgrown TV series and needed to move into blockbusters, if that was a Luther feature length, great, but unlikely.

The US are doing their usual thing of making a remake of a great British show, and Idris Elba won't be in it. For me Idris is Luther. He's made that role his own like Benedict Cumberbatch has done the same with Sherlock and I can't really imagine anyone else stepping in his shoes.

I've just finished watching this. What a brilliant show! Very underrated IMO

Alice is fecking brilliant

That moment when she...

...rescued Luther from that car with the flash bang was amazing

Probably my favourite female character from a TV show

Trying to watch the first series. What a pile of shite!

I've never seen a show rated so highly that's so bad.

It's just a standard villain of the week police procedural with a strong lead actor. Certainly not a great series by any stretch of the imagination but a pile of shite seems a bit strong.

The governor woman can't act and has the cheesiest lines imaginable. I actually suspect the part might have been written for a man, and then a decision was made to recast? There really are some cheesy lines! Idris Elba isn't particularly good in it either. Perhaps he gets better in series 2?

Luther solves every case within minutes with barely any clues or evidence. Whilst doing this, he also makes the worst decisions imaginable and repeatedly breaks/bends the law. Taking evidence out of storage to bait criminals, planting false evidence etc, and his colleagues and superiors accept all this and cover for him. Every time something goes wrong, he smashes up his office and/or home and everybody just seems to accept it.

He has repeated meetings and exchanges with a killer/sociopath but keeps it a secret from everybody, once again putting his job, liberty and life at risk despite the fact that he could be using some of the exchanges in order to prove she's a killer.

His trusted colleague that he's known for years turns out to be bent and decides to go around murdering people and tries to kill luther, Luther still tries to cover for him despite this  then the guy kills Luther's wife, I mean, really?

It's shite. I have one more episode to finish the first series, then I'm done with it.

Edit:

Saw the last episode of series one last night. I was actually laughing at the unintentional comedy of it. Hilarious stuff!

I loved the first two series. Seen 3 out of 4 of the 3rd and it's a bit like Sherlock. First two seasons great but the third is just alright. Too much of weird character twists in the 3rd. The infernal affair bits doesn't make sense, no way that it would operate like that. Ludicrously hypocritical. And that British Punisher guy. He's went from killing a pedophile to shooting cops? Is the theme of the series massive hypocrisy? Makes no sense at all. You lose all sympathy, people will remember you as a lunatic instead of an anti-hero. I don't. Just disappointing writing.

I don't understand the need to remake British shows, when original American television series are far stronger than British fare (The Wire, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad.) For me, the original Office is the only British show that can be classified as a classic (of course, there are no doubt many that I haven't seen.)

Really enjoyed it... but then I love the character of Luther doing pretty much anything.

But yeah, really welcome return.

How many episodes are there this season.
2 (well 1 more now) which seems a bit short really given that there's now 2 cases to wrap up in an hour with Alice and the cannibal killer guy it seems nexts weeks might be really rushed.

It was an enjoyable episode but the fact there's only 2 parts kind of ruined it for me. They essentially took half an hour to Luther to come back when we knew he would before the show even started! It seems like a waste of half an hour really, albeit I enjoyed the "return" bit to be fair. Whilst the last series was basically 2 double part episodes like this will be the Alice stuff was in the background of all 4 so it was at a nice pace. I think this next episode will feel really rushes, especially since it's just an hour long.

I'd hazard a guess Alice is alive and he'll meet up again, it kind of seems pointless if that's the case though cos if so then they might as well of left it at Series 3. I think he might be brought back to create a spin off show with Rose Leslie's character taking over.

It was a good episode and it's good to have it back, just a shame it's not longer but Idris Elba is in much bigger things now so it's to be expected.

Mate I havent seen it yet. Was asking to decide whether to watch individual episodes or binge it after every episode is released.

Just started episode 2 of series 4 and I still can't make heads or tails of what's happening. Oh except that there's that dirty wildling bitch who I've seen naked.

Cool. This is a bit of a guilty pleasure. Totally bonkers which is what makes it great.

I thought it was good, though Alice is fast becoming that kind of daft Moriarty-in-Sherlock-esque fanservice nonsense character that’s inexplicably overused as a supposedly shocking hook.

“OMG Alice is back!!!”... Of course she is. She’s in every season.

Luther didn't do anything in last nights episode. He was sort of just there. Benny did more actual police work.

Really disappointed to find out it's not another Superman series.lol
Alice would destroy Superman .

You are right though I mean we hardly have any proper adult crime shows but yeah yet another superhero show would be better

The killer looks sinister as hell.

I also liked how they teased a hot woman being pursued and butchered like an animal, swerved, then did it anyway on the bus. That's progress on gender roles in my book.

The evil doctor couple are really great, and Idris is still Idris, I just don’t give a flying shit about Super Moriarty Alice and the “biggest gangster in London” who Luther had chained to a radiator last season and seemingly has nothing better to do than needlessly keep kidnapping his mates and threatening him.

I wouldn’t mind if there was still some clever crime solving going on, but every time they cut back from one of these Luther-Extended-UniverseTM plots, the new girl seems to have just solved it off screen.

I’m wondering who owns the house with that secret basement in real life.

Whatever happens in the final episode, a synopsis of the next series might as well be 'Luther Season 6: John moves house again and parks his banged up Volvo right outside'

For a detective, he's not all that convert. Still, it's great far-fetched gratuitously violent telly.

The doctors are great villains.

Luther gonna luther  I mean I had to increase the lighting settings on my screen cause the thing was so dark. It makes me legit scared of ever visiting London

:D I agree. I liked Alice in the earlier series, but have no desire for her to be in this new one.

Still a good season though.
