So all those hysterical posts that plagued this forum about Giggs setting us back decades and the power of the class of 92 playing the United way was nonsense?
Exactly. We need a manager who wins trophies not Mourinho who's had one bad season in the last 15 years.

It may not work out great, but it's got some pretty tough competition to win that title. Hard to see how it can go worse than Moyes.
Giggs is becoming like psoriasis, no matter what you do he just remains there
It wasn't plaguing the forum. People were (rightfully) concerned that the board were going to appoint Giggs, despite his lack of experience. There were a few hysterical posts here and there (as in most situations), but most were able to discuss the matter fairly sensibly.
We just held talks with him, the agreement is a different thing. It's obvious now that we are considering him but there may be some conditions, like if van Gaal wins any of his next 10 games he saves his job and gets new contract.
Already made that with Moyes.
Get in. The main issues that most seem to have about him can be easily argued really
1) Not giving youth a chance.
Only managed clubs where the priority was instant success, didn't really have the need for planning too far in the future. Anyway, Van Gaal has given more chances to young players then any manager ever would. Look how well he's done. If a player is good enough, they'll force their way through. The only thing that will stop is mediocre youth team players being given chances just because they're youth players.
2) Playing style.
He played great stuff at Real Madrid, and often times at Chelsea too. It's just in big games where he tends to be pragmatic and grind out results, but in the smaller games, his teams tend to get a good amount of goals always.
3) Attitude off the pitch
Just look at Sir Alex... There really isn't that big of a difference between the two of them in terms of how they were with the press, falling out with some players, things they said, etc.. For Mourinho's feud with Wenger, look at Fergie with Rafa or many others before that. Or Fergie refusing to do bbc interviews for so long. The list goes on.
Hopefully this gets sorted soon, as with him next season, you can be sure we'll challenge for everything. No doubt that he'll have his wish list prepared already for this summer in terms of ins and outs.

The answer to the poll is no I wouldn't be happy that doesn't mean that I would be unhappy. More Meh about it. I wouldn't take any enjoyment out of the fact that we have appointed him but would still hope that he could lead us to trophies. If he does them maybe my opinion of him could change. as long as he doesn't drag the club into the gutter on the way.

If Pep didn't sign for City, I would have happily taken a risk with the likes Pochettino/Conte/Blanc/Giggs. However, it would be a far greater risk to choose an unproven manager when City have the potential to become a powerhouse. We needed to do something to stop it and Jose is the only manager capable imo.
I'm not into soap opera, but this does have a touch of destiny about it. Much of Jose's career have been tied with us one way or another, so his eventual arrival here will certainly be very interesting.
Both sides have no room for errors now, this is the best appointment we could've made and there's no other club that can afford Mourinho the same amount of control and financial backing. If he fails then we may just as well accept our fate as the next Scousepool and appoint Giggs.

1) he sold quality young players like Lukaku, De Bruyne and others leaving Chelsea with a worse squad
2) he had less shots and shots and targets than LVG
3) he assaults others and assaults referees.
Seems ideal timing for him to bring Terry with him as player/assistant manager as well.
I think he will thrive here.

I'm still very torn over his potential appointment. I'm willing to overlook the fact that he is controversial but the challenges the club faces go far beyond our ability to win the league title in the next three years, and I'm not sure if he is the man to help put the structures in place for the long term. On the flip side, he is a fabulous manager, with a wealth of experience and has the ability to attract a vast majority of players across the globe. We would definitely be a stronger team with him than without him.
As long as the club are willing to acknowledge the work that needs to be done off the pitch, and take action here, I'm willing to go with Jose. He will need to show a better acumen when handling younger players. He doesn't have to create a conveyor belt of young talent, but to be able to make the young players around the first team better players and fit them in the side.
