Not good enough, now or ever
I'm not saying he didn't have bad spells, but he was a class above What depay is and is capable of in my opinion.Yes because Nani was never shit for us!!
Too truedepay will never reach the level of nani.
I cannot envisage Depay ever showing this kind of talent at premier level. It would probably make me spit out whatever I was snacking on at the time.I'm not saying he didn't have bad spells, but he was a class above What depay is and is capable of in my opinion.
Depay has shown he's quality and and can do skillz against shit Lower rate opposition I'm not denying that, never against anyone who can defend to a decent level, his only good games for us last season were in the Europa league or league cup, speaks volumes.
Best place for Memphis is back in the Dutch league.
Too true
Against opposition that mattered.....
I'll also leave this here, his speed and balance while running with the ball and shooting is something depay can't do or will be able to do in my opinion, doesn't matter if nani had a few bad spells.
This. I was one of his biggest fanbois when he was here, he could be absolutely immense one game and be rubbish the next, was such a rollercoaster with him.I miss Nani like a heart-broken teenager.
Watching him in the Euros showed what a top quality player he can be on his day. Certainly missed that spark over the last 2 years.I miss Nani like a heart-broken teenager.
I liked the way you signed off. It was quite poetic "And in the end, none of that mattered, because the left wing spot belonged to Martial"The fact depay is being compared to nani is so insulting. Wasn't there a point when Nani one of the league? Why does the cafe underrate nani so much? Even valencia has been good for United although it was that one season.
Memphis is what you would call dross. There is no time I have watched him without thinking shite. He is one of those transfer that the only reason why he is here is because of his shared nationality to the ex manager.
The only chance I have right now is hoping he somehow performs in a full team of ibra, micky and possibly pogba. I'm just hoping that since he can't perform on his own maybe improved quality can somehow elevate him. Still it doesn't matter though because that left spot belongs martial.
We all want whats best for Memphis as he is a United player but not at the cost of martial.I liked the way you signed off. It was quite poetic "And in the end, none of that mattered, because the left wing spot belonged to Martial"
What an idiotic thing to say!! Nani was shit for us apart from the one good season he had! I can guarantee you were one of the many people calling for him to be sold when he was here! Depay proved in Holland he has the quality to be 10 times better than Nani, he just had a bad first season (As have plenty of players who come to the PL) but most of our squad were shite last year!depay will never reach the level of nani.
Nani is still shit now, still don't really see where this new found love of him has come from. What an idiotic thing to say!! Nani was shit for us apart from the one good season he had! Hope you aren't driving in that condition. What an idiotic thing to say!! Nani was shit for us apart from the one good season he had! In which version of Fifa is it possible to defend that poorly? This is exactly the kind of goal that Depay could score, despite beeing not good enough.
Depay proved in Holland that the dutch league is shite and Luuk De Jong looks like Van Basten whilst Dirk Kuyt is Alan Shearer. The only way Depay could score a goal like the one above against premier league opposition would be on Fifa
Yeah, perhaps in Holland he indeed can be 10 times better than Nani in Premier League. What an idiotic thing to say!! Nani was shit for us apart from the one good season he had! Rubbish. Nani was initially a very good young player for us. Then he was a top PL player for around 1.5 to 2 years after that. He never kicked on and maintained that level, but to say he was "shit" is a really poor assessment. What an idiotic thing to say!! Nani was shit for us apart from the one good season he had! This debate is getting a bit stale, but posting long shots from Nani is an odd argument seeing as how that is the one thing we know Memphis can do.
Depay proved in Holland that the dutch league is shite and Luuk De Jong looks like Van Basten whilst Dirk Kuyt is Alan Shearer. The only way Depay could score a goal like the one above against premier league opposition would be on Fifa
One thing Depay does not need is to try less.He just needs to be less 'try hard'. Its like he is forcing something to happen rather than just going with the flow... Jose will sort him out either way.
Lingard is so much better it's not even comparable.I never watched him in Holland, but based on what he's shown at United so far I don't think he's anywhere close to being good enough. I'm still struggling to see what he's actually particularly good at. So far I'm drawing a blank. When people talk about his "potential", what exactly are they referring to? I honestly think he'd struggle to make an impact in the Championship.
If his name was Jesse Lingard everyone on here would be calling for his head after last season. And Lingard, as frustrating as he can be, had a far better season than him in my opinion.
Yea we are. What makes it even more ridiculous is that when he was played in his favoured position in the right and on form he was the best of the bunch for 18 months. Depay isn't close to Nani in terms of ability. Some of our best football in past years has all been through Nani, to compare him to a player who's only use is cutting in off the wing and attempting a shot is ridiculous indeed. The comparisons with Nani is ridiculous. Your talking about Nani playing with some of the best players to wear a Utd shirt managed by the best manager in club football.
Whether he's good enough or not, who knows but not sure what selling him will achieve this season. We'll lose a ton of money in what we paid and the better gamble is a years salary under Jose.
This is exactly how I feel.He isn't fit to lace Nani's boots.
I'm not even a big fan of Nani.
Tbh Nani has more talent in his big toe than Depay has overall. And I'm a big fan of flair players and want Memphis to do well. But he doesn't look anything special at all. Looks heavy and slow. What an idiotic thing to say!! Nani was shit for us apart from the one good season he had! I can guarantee you were one of the many people calling for him to be sold when he was here! Depay proved in Holland he has the quality to be 10 times better than Nani, he just had a bad first season (As have plenty of players who come to the PL) but most of our squad were shite last year!
Memphis had a shocking season last season by every standard but I think we can lay at least some of that blame at Van Gaals door.
Memphis is most definitely a confidence player and I have no doubt that Fergie would have been able to get the best out of him, hopefully, in the same way Mourinho cans and will.
We'll see what Memphis is made of this season. It's make or break for him this year.
If Mourinho unshackles him and gives him free reign going forward (like what he did with Hazard and Fergie did with Ronaldo) we could get the best out of him.
European Championship winner 2016I am struggling with this one, tbh. Who might this be, do you think? OK, took him a while to settle, quite long spells where form had deserted him, maybe.

let's wait & see, I suppose, but I don't see Memphis at 1/10 of this, if we're lucky
